We're still investigating - we know that the issue is impacting only logins for the North American PC/Mac megaserver. Players who are already in the game are not impacted.

✭Same problem here. You can see the server as online but when you enter your PW you get an error 201.0 -

The problem appears to be that live-services.elderscrollsonline.com will not resolve. So either someone has poisoned the DNS cache someplace, or there's a problem with your primary DNS server for the elder scrolls domain.
Pull up a cmd prompt, try nslookup live-services.elderscrollsonline.com 8.8.8.8 and it fails.

every load screen is a potential disconnect and has been that way for weeks, now.

Yep, this works. I just logged in.
Here's how to do it:
1. Find a command prompt on your Windows install. On 10, that will involve typing "CMD" in the little search line. On 7, that will involve Start > Run > cmd.
2. Run the command prompt as administrator. This is easily done by right clicking the icon you just found, and selecting Run as Administrator (win10) or Run as... Administrator (win7).
3. Navigate to the directory where your hosts file lives. Not sure? Look online or just type cd / at the command line, then dir /s hosts*
4. Type "notepad hosts"
5. Add the following line anywhere in the file: 198.20.198.110 live-services.elderscrollsonline.com.
Hooray you can log in!
Problems:
"Ugh I can't save the hosts file, it keeps asking me where I want to save it"
You're not acting as an admin on it. Windows tries to prevent people from messing up; you need to runas admin in order to save the file. Saving it in a different location will not work.
"I don't know where this hosts file is"
