I love the pvp in eso. Yes, sometimes its a laggy unplayable mess and, sometimes it makes me yell profane things at my monitor but overall I love the unpredictable chaos pvp brings.

i love pvp. but wait? why did i vote for pve? the overall choices and vast amount of possibility with which you have to create you character i think offers no way to completely balance pvp.. and in most pvp games almost everyone wants true balance (note i said almost, i am fine with a little unbalance, sort of like a rock paper scissors game.) furthermore it seems like, as in most games, the second you mess with the balance for pvp you mess up pve.....

PVP. I started playing this game with no intention of ever PVPing, but back when I hit VR1 on my first character I was ready to quit because the PVE was so boring. I decided to try out PVP and was hooked ever since (although the lag and bugs suck.)

I play Elder Scrolls for PvE. The PvP in this game is laughable when you compare it to games with quality PvP. They had a great concept that fell flat on it's face and could not get back up. Also people say that PvE is stale but more than two years of the same battlefield is kind of worse. People are so bored out of there minds in Cyrodiil they just gank and tower farm.

Please tell us which pvp games in your opinion have quality pvp?

I am wondering which ones make eso "laughable"...

Aisle9 seemed rather emphatic about stories needing conflict okay but you do know that conflict is not defined by people gathering up a bunch of like minded people and beating the stuffing (I'm sorry that's the word I use) out of a bunch of differently like minded people? Conflict means a dispute, a difference of opinion, an incompatibility or friction. It can become hostile or even violent but doesn't need to be. PvP in ESO means warfare and has lost all nuance and subtlety that should be possible in the story as stated. When PvP allows nuance I will join in PvP but so long as it means ducking around corners so some poor excuse for a person doesn't whack me or joining in a war I don't believe in I'll stay outside and smell the flowers.

Or it could be because ZOS doesn't know how to fix Cyrodiil and are to stubborn to do any real changes to fix the problems. Instead of fixing shield stacking we get 6 second shields and shield breaker. Instead of getting rid of aoecaps they give us vicious death. Poisons going to screw every small group player in Cyro. They gave us the pvp dlc last year and it was pathetic and unfinished. Same goes for PvE they beef every dungeon last 3 dlcs all focus on questing didn't scale any other trial other than Sanctum they are turning this into a Bethesda single player game.

I play ESO because of lore, the story, the lust to see how has all of it happened even before the first TES game. PvP is just sort of a cherry on top of a cake, a bit spoiled cherry but hey, it's still there.

I really like both PVE & PVP... & even though now that I have completed most of the PVE content & do MOSTLY PVP now... I still voted for PVE because without the initial PVE, I doubt I would have discovered how awesome the PVP is! I needed the game to be based in something solid like the Elder Scrolls lore to hook me in, in the first place.

For me, PVE content in ESO is excellent but I have no desire to repeat quests. Repeatable quests are not interesting to me & I do not enjoy them. PVP, on the other hand, even though the content is the same... it always goes down differently so the replayability is very high. My favourite thing ingame is the massive keep assault/defences that last hours... I really get that full immersion where I lose track of time.

So it is a very tough call for me... I prefer the PVP... but without the initial PVE I just don't think it would be as good. If that makes any sense :P

tbh I'm surprised it's that close. Given how lag ridden and cheese driven pvp has been for a while I expected the numbers to have fallen enough that it'd be in the 80-90% PvE range. Not to mention at least in the MMO genre PvErs generally outnumber pvpers by quite a bit.

That being said, I would most likely quit if either was "removed". I like to be able to pvp when I want, and pve when I want and that's the game I'd personally like to play, one that has a little something for everyone. (Within reason)

The issue I have with PvP in this game is that it is inherently meaningless. It is just fighting over nothing really, just for the fun of killing for most. And I have an issue with instant resurrection as well - what is the point in killing someone if he is up again in an instant - that is a freaking sisyphean task - pointless, meaningless - I am not against PvP, I like it a lot in EVE, but I am not fond of PvP in ESO - the whole emperor thing sounded good to me, but how it is implemented is totally meaningless. In EVE when a player empire falls - like it happened to goonswarm federation lately - this is an event with major impact on the game world - but in ESO it has no meaning at all - nothing is changing in the game world with a new emperor - it is just a farce.

I've seen many, many PvP-focused threads claiming that the 'Carebears' are a minority to be rolled by the concerns of PvP zealots.

It seems the developers have listened too much to those threads too.

PvP was the biggest selling point for me from the start, and is definitely the thing that keeps me coming back to this game. PvE can be fun too but PvP is where it's at, and I almost wish there was only PvP because I'd love to play through the PvE story at a leisurely pace but feel compelled to rush through and level up as quickly as possible so I can go play PvP and be effective doing so. As such the PvE content is wasted on me, I just don't have time to play it like it should be played, every minute I'm playing the game but not in PvP is another minute that my enemies have to fight without me being there to help fight them back.

Obviously I can't be online all the time, but when I am it feels like I'm wasting time playing through story content at the proper pace when it's taking away from time to help my team win. I do like this game being as it is and wouldn't want it to change, but given a choice between them, it's PvP all the way.

I think you misunderstand many of the PvE crowd. It is not the "entry barrier". You can tell yourself that they are lesser beings who just can't cut it in the hard play of PvP but the truth is; if we wanted to be there a large majority of the PvE core are entirely capable of playing on that field or can become so. We're not there out of considered choice. We're not bored by the exploring and crafting and talking to NPCs; it's what we enjoy doing. We're not averse to fighting to greater or lesser degrees. I know I felt a certain sense of pride last night when I finally took out a world boss solo that had smashed my sorry self all over the rocks just a few days ago. I don't kill anything that isn't trying to kill me first and even some of those (why tigers?) I walk around where possible. I have no desire at all to kill unsuspecting players, find no vicarious thrills in fighting a senseless war, and no need to test my "build" against someone else's. You do, that's okay.

I don't look down on anyone for the way they play. I don't care how they play the game. To each their own. Let me PvP, you have fun exploring, roleplaying or whatever else.
But no, not ever will the large majority of the PvE core be able to join PvP and endgame PvE and be in any way competitive. And one of the reasons for that is the high entry barrier: Both those things require a lot of time. A casual gamer (not meant in a mean way at all, the big majority of the playerbase consists of casual gamers after all) will never be able to invest the time needed to gain the knowledge and the necessary skills for those playstyles. And that is completely fine.
I am one of the more hardcore PvPers and I see enough new people everyday in PvP getting completely slaughtered. Sucks for them, but that is PvP. You need to invest a lot of time and dedication to be able to compete. And I don't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with that or just not finding any joy in fighting other players. Everyone has their own opinion, their own passion for how they want to play the game that ESO is.

But I disagree when people come claiming they know what the very core of the game's nature is and how the game is supposed to evolve and what part of the game should just be shut down. That's simply not fair. I don't understand why people would deny others the part of the game they are having fun with.
