I fully agree. When ESO was released, there was solo content which really proved to be a challenge; get killed, figure out what you did wrong, adjust skills and try again... Two years later ZoS has shown to have more ears for the people that are whining about the game being too difficult, because there are not many challenges left nowadays.

Just pay the fine, then it does not matter if the guards are not killable. If your worried about losing your loot, Fence it before you steal in a high risk area. Then, if you get caught, pay the fine, and try again.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm fine with the guards the way they are. I don't let my bounty get so high that they will kill me on sight if I am indoors. If I am outdoors doing thievery, I have a "getaway" plan each time. My bounty goes up even higher when I get away, but I have almost a full stack of counterfeit pardons anyway if I don't want to wait the few minutes for the bounty to go away. Or I switch to another character and steal with them for a while. I make a ton from fencing goods and if the guards were killable, I'd just empty the city of guards and loot at will. Keep them unkillable.

Try using invisibility potions next time.
Avoiding the flares should be fairly easy for an experienced thief, even inside a building.

If all else fails, just never do the dangerous parts of cleaning a city as the LAST thing, clear the problem makers first, so if you fail miserably, like you did that time, you won't lose anything.

I understand Justice System PVP is no longer being developed, but it could still be a lot more fun if the guards were perhaps extremely challenging but possible to be killed.

So many criminal players have been cheaply killed by these invincible deities during the past year, we all want some payback. I think getting groups together to defeat guards would be more popular than dungeon or trial bosses.

Also would make cities that much laggier.

Still, you can get a gud 12 man group to try and cc / knock back the guards into a fountain or something and keep attacking. Once he gets a certain damage he'll just burn everyone in a fun-death-to-all-criminal-scum move.

Get rid of the invulnerable guards and instead introduce a faction system into the justice system with more guards who are buffed but not impossible. Killing guards increases your bounty incredibly and in order to get in the good graces of the locals you need to win their favor via killing their enemies or performing deeds.

Even when I use invis pots (which provide 15 sec) unless I'm able to completely get out of combat, I'm not able to open interior doors.

This used to be an issue, but with the clemency, on demand fence, and pardons this is no longer a problem. My only issue with it before was when you accidentally steal and item while talking to a NPC.

That's because people nowdays grew up with easy games that gave easy and non-challenging content.

I want a company to make a really hard game with challenging content and not giving a care if people think the content is too hard.

And they response gotta be "Too hard for you? Then maybe this isnt the game for you" (Wont happen but i gotta dream :P )

The whole premise of this complaint rests on this assumption:

If I play absolutely correctly, and do everything right: I should win

This is a wrong premise. You can do everything right and still lose because you had bad luck, or overlooked something unforeseen/unforeseeable. There are no guarantees. Thieving is high risk and high reward and sometimes you just roll a critical fail and lose everything. That's working as intended.

This whole conversation reminds me of how my father use to lecture me and my brothers on how every accident is avoidable -- until circumstances caused him to plow into the back of a parked police car. My brothers and I still laugh about that.

Moral of the story: If you are an arrogant **** telling others L2P, karma will serve you a steaming pile of payback.

    Guards should be much harder.
    It's too easy to steal.
Wherever I go, all chests, cases, nightstands, closets are empty.
    This should not be possible.

To make things worse, everyone seems to think he's a thief...

It's not any sort of challenge to kill guards, it's impossible. Getting one-shotted by an invincible guard is similar to the feeling you get when trying to cross a tiny hill in Cyrodiil and there is an invisible wall blocking your way. Or wandering around exploring the world as a low level character and discovering the world is designed with a sort of linear progression.

This is an Elder Scrolls game - some may wish to play a sneaky thief who never gets caught, while others may want to play a murderer who is not sneaky at all and gets caught frequently. It would be fun if it was incredibly challenging but at least remotely possible to get revenge on these guards. Obviously there are various game systems issues involved and it may never happen.

And now a word from the Roleplayer's Guild!
You have saved every city in every faction. You have saved every faction. When you come before a pact leader they gasp in relief. You saved all of Tamriel, not only from death, but terrible torture. Sheogorath thinks your powerful enough to take an interest in you. Even the Daedra keep tabs on your movements and try and manipulate you to their ends. At least for a time, you *destroyed* the greatest threat to Tamriel!

And powerful people care if you rob some houses or kill a couple of people? And the city guard, who as a collective couldn't take care of the problem in the first place, are going to kill you?

If you are not already a god, you are a step away. The justice system should reflect that.

    True story!
I finish saving the Alik'r at Satakalaam (last Cadwell step in Alik'r desert) and see/hear the Imperials bound and complaining. Enraged, I attack one Imperial and a soldier jumps me while all the Imperials run away. I don't want to kill the soldier so I run off to finish up.

I plow through Motalion Necropolis and take the portal back to replace the Ansei Wards. King Fahara'Jad gives a grand speech and points out to all present that I saved Alik'r. He privately tells me that I saved his throne.

I wander out of the impervious vault and a guard accosts me and wants me to pay a bounty... I run but two more guards jump me, and the three kill me.

The savior of Alik'r killed by Sentinel guards just after saving the entire kingdom because an Imperial soldier was roughed up a bit, the same imperial soldier I just stopped from ruthlessly killing citizens of that kingdom...

    Makes sense...

The guard system is a complete and utter pile of dung.

If you don't get greedy and carry too much stolen loot then if you get caught inside you can log out immediately and wait out the disreputable time. If you are greedy or absent minded and you get caught stealing a lockpick with a bag full of ill-gotten gains then you get wiped. That is a bummer for you but entirely fair. Look on it as a learning experience. I hate all the wanton killing in towns as it is and I really don't want vigilante justice running around. If you're a thief and you get caught then deal with it.

Seriously, are you really saying they are "too hard"???
It's FAR too easy to get away from them, just be tactical, and don't be the clever one by stealing in a single-room-building!

They should be boosted by at least 30%.

Another night of thieving ruined by getting caught inside a building. Guard spams roots and wrecking blow, cant get away for long enough to get out a door, cant kill the guard or even incapacitate him long enough to get out the door.

I get that they dont want players coming in and griefing towns by killing everyone, including the guards, but making guards invulnerable is a bad way to do things. Hurry up and get the rest of the justice system implemented if that's what it takes (though, seriously now, we all know that will never actually happen).

Sounds like it's time to start acting like a professional thief and case the joint before burgling it.

I used to believe that guards should be killable, but with the TG skill line, it's super cool now. And yes I have used the timely escape perk a few times, it definitely works. But you only have a chance that they show up, it doesn't happen all the time.

Ummm... yeah I used to do just that... until about a week ago when I picked up a bounty in a busy area. I hid in the corner and then logged out, thinking that I would come back later after my bounty cleared. Well I logged back in and I was dead :'( ... apparently before my game had fully exited, a guard had stumbled upon me!! I was pretty upset because I lost a purple recipe and a bunch of blues... but in the end it was my fault for not finding a safer place to be.

Ohh another thing I could have done was just map to Cyrodill or Coldharber as there is no justice system in those zones.

The Thieves Guild skill line really helps in these types of situations ... so take advantage of it.

In my opinion the guards should be unkillable ... making them killable would enable players to circumvent the whole justice system without any consequence. Plus, the fine for a misstep the OP has outlined is pretty minimal. Just pay it and move on. There is an achievement for paid bounties to guards or fences by the way ...
