Which Dawnbreaker Morph is Better Overall on PTS?

Since ZOS decided to make both morphs of Dawnbreaker physical, which morph is better overall for a stamblade in pve?

Is it better to go for the weapon damage buff or the higher damage ultimate?

I went with the Weapon Damage buff.

My reasoning may be wrong, but I would prefer to have a passive buff to ALL of my weapon damage rather then some extra damage on an already hard hitting move.

For Stamblade I like Smiting. Use Soul Harvest main bar to fuel it, while also getting more crit. The Rapid Strike into Bar Swap into DBoS. The knockdown is also useful in VMSA.

Smiting for PvP - no questions asked.

This skill deals beastly damage (for comparison: crits only 1-2k less than Incapacitating Strike) and does that damage in an undodgeable AoE that knocks everyone down & leaves a big DoT that most people can't outheal.

Wiping zergs will be fun with it :P

Smiting does more damage. I really dislike the fighters guild changes. I use smiting on all my magic builds. It especially hurts my magic dk as I don't really have a low cost ultimate now as ferocious leap and soul assault are a waste. They should've kept smiting magic damage and made ice comet physical.

I know. It kills magicka templars too.

I didn't agree with this change and wanted them to keep smiting as the magicka morph. But it looks like ZOS won't budge unless there's a thread with 300+ posts protesting it, which hasn't happened.

For a PvE Nightblade, DBoS actually out performs FDB, even on live. Soul Harvest offers 2% crit and 10 ulti on kill, which even the crit now out performs the weapon damage. Keep in mind that each Fighter's Guild ability now gives 3% weapon damage while slotted, so even DBoS has a gain to it. FDB now only gives 5% weapon damage while slotted, but retains the 8% when you add the passive. So 5% weapon damage vs 2% weapon critical on an end game stamina build actually loses by quite a bit, the crit goes much farther and scales in strength with group buffs and character progression, while 5% weapon damage is capped in power based on your base weapon damage (it does not stack with other % gains!)

On top of this, DBoS stuns a target, which unlocks the Exploiter passive from the Ritual tree to become active, which is a flat 10% damage bonus against any target that is stunned or off balanced, leading this to be EVEN stronger than FDB.

And in PvP I'd even take DBoS over Flawless, on non Nightblade classes, the stun and added damage is just too nice to pass up.

Soul Harvest, potion charge ultimate. Drop DB of Smiting. I can drop the next DB of Smiting before the DOT ends.

DBoS. Flawless is just marginally better in PVE when you do not need the utility. DBoS provides an aoe knockdown + better upfront ulti damage...... Now that its physical, it works amazingly well for aoe CC in most stam PvP builds.
