Maelstrom Shield and mace

Quick question
I have a Templar, sorc and night blade. No tank, no dk. Have never played a tank role at all.
So of course when finishing vma I get the shield and mace. At least I got something. I won't complain about that.
Now I know everyone's looking for a sharpened destruction staff. It's very useful.
My question is, how good is the shield and axe set up? Is it something tanks are striving to get? If I leveled a tank to max level, would it be worth using this combo?
Just trying to get a feel on how desirable this set is compared to others.

✭I think you mean mace and shield. I don't think axe drops with a shield as axe (and dagger) buffs a dual wield power.
Generally the sword and mace are considered the weakest two of the maelstrom weapons. Most of the others are best in slot for many builds.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭The vMA tank weapons are junk. The "while equipped" passive bonus is nice, but the vDSA tank weapons have the same slot bonus (and only slightly weaker, by less than 50 health points) and a much, much more useful active bonus. If you have an orphaned sword slot, you can use the vMA weapon for the slot health bonus. Otherwise, it's not worth the bother. And if you have the vDSA tank sword, that's probably a better choice.Nightfighters ― PC/NA and PC/EU
