They basically say what it was. They say that the survey will disappear once you find it rather than harvest the first node. Kinda tells you all you need to know right there.

Something about survey reports, and a website?
    Just what is this about?

    From what I understood...

It was possible to get a writ survey report.[snip]
Not sure how long this had been possible (maybe it has always been ?) but the info was spreading like wildfire and if they hadn't acted on this in emergency many people would have spent the whole night harvesting resources that way.

Not sure it would have been "game breaking" or "destroying the economy" for I can understand that ZOS doesn't want to have to ban or undertake disciplinary actions against thousands and thousands of players.

Just remember prime time for you is a low time for another region. This exploit will destroy the economy and needs to be fixed asap. I understand the frustration but remember its only temporary.

The exploit allowed you to use crafting writs at infinitum allowing you to get large sums of crafting materials.

You have access to them. Just don't use exploits to do it and you're okay

Ah, so thousands of players are involved?
A reason more they should reward every player with something that was not involved in the exploit.
If they won't punish the bad apples, they SURELY can reward the good folks?

customer care is not letting an exploit get out of hand....

Here's how you do it without shutting down the server or letting it get out of hand: DISABLE ALL TRADING GLOBALLY FOR A FEW HOURS and then shut it down for patch.

They already said they have the relevant data tracked that lets them know who abused it, so the only reason to patch it is that it gets out of hand if the exploiters start trading away their exploited materials. If all forms of trading are disabled, there is no damage done and they can get banned later without ruining everyone's friday night.

But yeah, I assume nobody was bright enough at ZOS to implement these useful emergency global blocks, a shame.

Fixing exploits is good although the timing stinks for many. I'm just annoyed that I must now keep my surveys stored in my bank because I don't want to get close to survey areas and have them go *poof* before I get a chance to gather them. I normally carry them with me in case I have a bit of time to go grab some. That ends now.

It would be very easy for surveys to *poof* without getting a harvest. Approach a location (not even actually in view yet) close enough to trigger the survey nodes, see a normal resource node off to the side that is slightly outside the trigger radius, go harvest that normal node, and meanwhile *poof* goes the survey without getting the chance to harvest up a thing.

Even a lag spike could cause losing a survey. Server thinks you're at point X, spawns the nodes, then after the lag spike gets an update you're at point Y, outside of the trigger radius.

For now, it's either store in the bank or make a direct beeline for the nodes without regard to anything else in the world, period. I hope ZOS's permanent fix is not by making them bound to character.

Is there any evidence that they're even capable of globally disabling trade? Or, if they are, of doing so while servers are live?

And even if there is, trade is a major part of the game. If they disabled trade for a few hours, these forums would be full of people with actual cause to complain complaining instead of what we have right now, a few selfish people insisting that getting their way is more important than the good of the overall game.

Seriously, just stop. There is no argument to be made that you guys are right on this, and the more you keep trying to find one, the worse you guys look.

So you would rather give exploiters more time to amount more legendary tempers and gold? Consider this a good thing. In swtor they would let exploits run rampant for months before doing anything.

    Actually, yes. Yes I would.

Now that they know the exploit. Look for it and permanently ban them from the game. And not just that one account, but all accounts from all games that they produce.

The exploit has been around since Thieve's Guild . A few more hours certainly isn't going to cause substantially more damage. And it should be fairly simple to track down the exploiters.

Well if it doesn't affect you personally, I just can't see any reason why they would bring the servers down. Did they even contact you before they made their decision? :D

I am totally fine with them taking the server down for an emergency update, what allways pisses me off about ZOS is the lack of communication about what they are doing, why and the ETA..
that and the fact they seem to have the longest REGULAR downtime for server maintenance that i have ever encountered in my 20 years or so of playing MMO's , not counting new content updates or something like that ( 2005 eve online server down for 70 hours with new update ...)
