How many Impenetrable pieces are recommended for PVP in 1.6?

Given the changes to Impenetrable in 1.6, what are everyone's thoughts on the minimum number of Impenetrable armor pieces for PVP players?

It seems like 4-5 pieces of Impenetrable are recommended for 1.5; but I'm thinking 2-3 pieces might be sufficient in 1.6. Does anyone agree or disagree? What do you recommend?

none, go reinforced, you reduce damage on crits, not the chance.

Or go Reinforced+Nirnhoned for any crafted pcs you have then wear Construct.

Thanks for the fast replies, everyone. That nerf to Impenetrable is even bigger than I realized. It makes me wonder if it will be stealth buffed in the patch (1.6.5?) that goes live as those patches are notorious for big changes. I am glad I have all nine traits researched for all of the armor and weapons I use.

I disagree that Reinforced is the way to go for all. It will depend on type of gear and even on the slot.

With VR 14 Legendary Armor without other passives or armor sources: (rough rounding)
Light Armor: 3674 Armor/Spell Resist without 7/7 reinforced and 4262 with 7/7 reinforced
Medium Armor: 10811 Armor/Spell Resist without 7/7 reinforced and 12541 with 7/7 reinforced
Heavy Armor: 14380 Armor/Spell Resist without 7/7 reinforced and 16680 with 7/7 reinforced

This means if taking 32,500 Armor to equal 50% damage mitigation (using an average for simpler math) then with 7/7 Reinforced:
Light Armor: ~0.90 damage mitigation gain.
Medium Armor: ~2.66 damage mitigation gain.
Heavy Armor: ~3.54 damage mitigation gain.

As the above shows using reinforced for light armor is much less useful then it is for medium and heavy armor. Each armor piece itself also has different values.

Chest comes with the most armor.
Head, Shoulders, Legs and Feet come with the second most armor.
Hands and Waist come with the least armor.

Have not done further testing on traits yet (will tomorrow after patch) but will likely pick something other then reinforced for my Light Armor sets.

    >:)Impenetrable value has also been doubled. IE: legendary gear with impenetrable is 200. :*

The amount of Critical Resistance required to completely eliminate the unmodified bonus damage from a Critical hit is 50 * (your Character Level + your Veteran Rank number).

7 legendary pieces with impenetrable will equal 7(200) = 1400 Critical Resistance.
3200 Critical Resistance negates the unmodified critical bonus which is 50%.
This means having 7/7 Legendary pieces will reduce critical damage by ~21.875%.
So a critical attack will now deal ~128.125% of normal damage.

This looks better then reinforced IMO since most PvP players will have 40%+ critical hits.

Please note the above is supposed to be the way it works. It could/may be bugged. B)

Impenetrable should reduce crit damage more than Reinforced, at the very least for light armour characters.

That's what it's supposed to do but currently on PTS it isn't working as intended and Reinforced is actually showing an overall lower damage value from incoming hits than Impen. We're all hoping it's a bug that ZoS has yet to fix.

It would be nice if it did work that way (the way the devs stated), but it doesn't on PTS. All my testing showed 100 impen = -1% to crit bonus dmg, meaning full 7/7 gold impen + gold impen shield would be only -16%.

The biggest thing with crit was the chance of it not occurring now it does, in the overall sense I would not take Impen to reduce one thing when reinforced can also help against normal attack, you have to consider that.

As for the armor, LA is nerfed to oblivion right now, just have to wait and see. I would reccomend not making any legendary sets until you are sure of what the changes and game play will be like a few weeks after 1.6

I've already bought all the Construct pieces on the AH atm because I'll resell them at 1.6

go with whatever trait you want.

Impenetrable no longer makes an entire play style virtually unplayable; now you have more freedom to play how you want.

Imo, the problem with crit chance visavi impenetrable was not the fact that everyone started using impen and crit got useless. The problem is ZOS created a way to high crit chance meta, ppl could easily make builds with up towards 60+% crit chance, without much of a sacrifice.

That's why ppl felt forced to use impenetrable, because it was just too damn common to get critted. If they just lowered the crit chance meta to at the very least below 50% (meaning somewhere below 50% should be the absolute max u could ever obtain from maxing crit chance in every way possible) then ppl would acctually feel like they could take a gamble and skip some impen and pick smthn else. Really one shouldn't be able to crit on every other "shot", it should be less common than that imo.

You should feel like: "yes I got a crit in", not: "No wth I didnt crit there"

Crit chance is silly high in this game. My two cents.

Ps. Sorry for the lazy spelling :/

    Crit chance is crazy:
    10% Base:
    12% Champion Passive:
    10% Major Prophecy:
    3% Minor Prophecy:
    3% Per Set Bonus:

IMO the average PvP player will have at least 35% critical chance without even trying. Many will have 50%+ critical chance.

If Critical Resistance is bugged then its a bad choice. If/when its fixed and give the correct values it is still a very viable choice mostly for light armor or damage shield players.

Try using Armor of the Construct, -20% crit dmg and all pieces have impenetrable.
IMO this is the best pvp tanking set with no competition.

So.. going over old posts.. it's funny and sad that this is still valid.. more than 1 year has passed and they still haven't fixed the in-combat bug, that even el Wrobel acknowledged during one of their dev play session.
