Tooltip Damage vs Actual Results

Description:
Flash through the shadows and ambush an enemy, dealing 3414 Physical Damage, and stunning them for 2 seconds.
Actual:
You hit Dominion Cutthroat with Ambush for 2,873 damage.
I also see this when the next attack should be +20% damage, and isn't. Is this due the targets armor, a bug in the add-on, in the game, or what?

babedenny✭✭✭✭Thanks. That's quite interesting, and I had not seen that before. That section deals a lot with champion points. I have them, and I assume the NPC does not. Is it wrong to expect my damage to be at least equal to or even higher than the tool tip in PVE?
If you guys say it's normal, then I trust your answer.

✭✭✭✭✭Champion point selections also cause some tooltip increases that don't reflect back on the actual attack like Thaumaturge can cause certain non-damage over time abilities to show a higher damage tooltip, but in actuality has no effect on them when used.0 -

It's not all bad though
I'm only V4 and Killer's Blade is regularly hitting 6,000+ damage, plus the heal. I didn't expect it to hit that hard based on the tooltip, and my relatively mediocre gear.

✭For the sake of simplicity, it's easiest to assume that all mobs have a flat 15% damage reduction.
This reduction goes down if the tank uses a piercing debuff and if you have armor/spell penetration.0 -

Just use the tooltips to compare skills to each other, rather than using them to determine how much damage you'll actually do.0
