Useless & Overpriced Crown Merchant! (Doesn't Repair)

Honestly, when I bought the merchant and banker I wasn't thinking of guilds banks or repairing gear. I bought them because I was tired of running out of space from drops and then having to destroy items to pick up better items. I've always hated having to run back to a city to deposit all the crafting drops to the bank so I have space again, and destroying items rather than selling them was never my style. I'm fine with buying repair kits. Having instant repair anywhere, even in dungeons without buying a repair kit is kind of cheaty. Maybe adding guild bank to the banker would be nice but overall I'm very happy with what they do.

    Good for you..
You know you can buy 60 slots from in-game money and another 60 slots from horse space upgrade.

Update:Yay, they refund me back the 5000 crowns.

They told me it's a one time courtesy, fair enough.

    Thank you all!

Did they let you keep it?

No, she's fired. Never missed her at all.

I saw a mount for 2500 crowns when I opened ESO today. Crazy. The bank assistant and the merchant assistant are each worth more than twice as much as the vanity mount of the week.

Well every assistant is lacking some important future, but they're all still useful to some degree.

The merchants change the dynamics when I'm questing and Iike that. People don't seem to complain when you bring the assistant to a grinding group etc. either.

But the 5k crown tag is debatable....

That mount has been displayed 3 times before, they just change the color and the name.. so creative.

Lol. I am afraid they made fun of you. I have already explained it a few times, but since it is my favourite trope and, apparently, ZOS's as well, let me say that:
    1) To refund is: To return (money) to (someone); to reimburse . Crowns are not money. You lost your money the moment you bought crowns, not the moment you bought some assistant. Therefore, they did not refund you.
    2) Therefore, it is not a courtesy.

Use Wykkyd's auto repair add on. Merchant automatically repairs items. Tried it on a grouped crown merchant today and all my items were repaired as normal.

Can anyone confirm that this works? Can you really bypass the restriction with an add-on?

Based on comments from other users I loaded the auto-repair add-on and used the Crown Store merchant. The add-on does report the items being repaired and the gold being deducted in the chat window, but my gear was not repaired nor gold removed from my inventory. I tested it because I had one item that was completely trashed on my character.

It looks like the add-on triggers are the same with the Crown Store merchant, so it provides the same messaging in the chat window, but this does not appear to be a way around it as far as I can tell. Can't have the Crown Store merchant cutting into Crown Store repair kits I suppose.

Thanks for confirming. Ah well. It did appear to work and it would have solved a lot of issues but needed a thorough testing such as this. Grateful to you.

You're right in case I bought the crowns specifically to get the merchant but I had them from my ESO plus.

Merchant does not repair or sell any supplies.

Banker gives no access to guild bank.

$100 I won't be seeing again. Always a good kick in the teeth with you ZoS. Thanks!! :)

Yeah,I'm glad I read up on the assistants after getting the fence assistant in The Thieve's Guild. She only buys. Doesnt launder. When I realized that,I checked what the others would do when they came out.Only the basics, adding to your bank or removing from it,and selling and buying stuff from merchant. No Guild bank or Guild stores. No repairing stuff. I'm just glad I didnt have to pay for the fence. As it is,she takes 35%,and that can be quite a bit of gold.
So,none of them are worth a thing to me for 5000 crowns. If it was only say 1500 crowns, then, fine.A limited assistant could help you empty your inventory out while on the road, both the merchant and the banker. The fence takes a bit too much gold for her services. I'd rather wait until I got in town to a Den to sell my illegal goods than have them sold for a lot less to that Assistant.

To be honest I think both merchant and banker are a bit stupid idea for an assistan. The smuggler not so as it is logical to have a brave and greedy sidekick walking with you and taking your stuff to closest black market for a small cut. It is actually quite well made.

I see no reason though why a banker would like to join me in a crypt filled with undead or what kind of business a merchant would do in Vaults of Madness. And how is that banker able to walk around the world with all your stuff in his pockets? Those must be the biggest pockets ever! (Well actually, the merchant assistant might have bigger ones.)

People complain that the merchant can't repair but if it did, repair kits would become obsolate item and the game would become more or less "pay to win" as people with merchant would have no need to leave a dungeon just becouse their items broke. They are already able to run from dungeon to dungeon hoarding everything and selling it to the merchant who wont even charge anything for following you. This speeds up money making a lot.

Instead of these 2 strange enterpreneurs, they could have made an assistant who could have just carried a few items for us, serving as extra bag space.
And yes, 5K Crowns for an assistan is a bit too much.

I agree, but I also think if you spend real money on the game it should make things a lot easier.... For 5K Crowns they should be able to repair.
