They both make my petite/thin characters look sexy as heck, but still not enough to make me purchase them even though I have a stash of crowns I bought on sale. I am not into skimpy, but classy and sexy instead. They look good for what they intended though...

I'm not into skimpy either and they do make me feel a little underdressed, but I tend to wear different outfits in different areas (then match those to my mount and sometimes also pet).

The skimpiness in these outfits I think is just tasteful enough to look nice rather than tacky.

I hope ZOS makes us more slinky clothes though, for example long skirts with sidesplits and so on would be nice to see.

And any medieval/piratey but stylish costumes (and please note how the female shape is preserved, without added frumpinesss or any hint of manliness) -

Jorleif likes the look of it but he feels that it is inadequate as armour. Says the skirt is much too restrictive for bulky nord and would be better suited to tiny elf girl who climbs trees.

I can only guess that these costumes are like the ESO equivalent of Ugg boots. Wildly popular (at one time)- but I don't get it at all. I'm very glad that people who bought this are happy with the fit, and hope it means future costumes will be base-mesh appropriate, but it literally looks like a burlap sack. Maybe it's just the Breton in me.

A good outfit is one, that supports the overall appearance of the wearer and draws attention to the person and not the outfit itself. Quite often plain outfits with an interesting cut do this the best. And this is one of those outfits, simple but yet drawing attention due to the style and cut, but the design does not distract from the person wearing it. And that is what outfits should be about and what fashion is often terribly missing - some haute couture fashion is so fancy, that it distracts from the person wearing it so much, that it basically fails it's purpose. It gets rewards, but most women do not want to wear that crap - WE are the most important thing, not fashion. Fashion should support our appearance not be the main attraction - we are.

And these 2 outfits do the trick - plain, simple, pulling attraction - to us, not the outfit itself.

Edit: this is an example of how a very plain dress supports the appearance extremely well, without to distract from the person wearing it

That's definately not true. Have you played Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim (with or without mods and addons)

With those mods ....yeah...but even the base game allows for interesting outfits.
I don't see this braking any lore or designs. I'm also glad ZOS am decided to create attractive characters and not the blocky fugly characters that require mods and addons.

    Yeah.

There were some skimpy outfits on post-Morrowind TES games too. I would post some pics but I'm on my phone and can't be bothered.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I think they're very nicely done, and look terrific. My Altmer wouldn't really wear them, but my Wood elves do, and they suit them. I bought both as I thought they were also reasonably priced, and had no distortions. ( I didn't look up the skirts lol )

I would have loved for one of the costumes to have bare feet rather than the tiny sandals but that's just extra fluff.
I'd really appreciate the ability to dye costumes though.

@Lysette- while I respect your argument and opinion, I don't think the "attraction" of this costume is about simplicity so much as a lot of abs, thighs and shoulders (not that there's anything wrong with that). I might see someone wearing this belly-shirt and sarong combo and think, "wow, there's a really lovely woman wearing a really ugly outfit." Your example photo supports your argument (simple, elegant, flattering), but I don't think the costume does.

But really, it's just a matter of taste. My favorite costumes in this game are the new thieve's leathers, the blacksmith outfit and the male wedding suit. I don't like fancy dresses or skimpy casual wear for my characters. I voted "other" instead of "no" on this because I realize my tastes aren't necessarily everyone else's and I'm glad people are happy. But I will always think it's an ugly outfit.

Ignoring any debate about skimpy clothes, i think the costumes are well made, and the base model used much more pleasing. Thank you design team and you, @ZOS_JessicaFolsom if you had any hand in this. :)

Even if I like the fact that they are doing these for fair ladies (and different men) especially since most armor models dont have proper female version anymore... I still wonder how easy it could have been to do "male version" of these.
Simply make the kilt a bit longer and remove torso part, but keep the hand/arm stuff.
So instead of 1 costume you would get 2, but you could only wear the another depending on your sex.

That would be good for those, like me, who have both genders in the line-up. I would ordinarily have only women but I ended up with a male Dunmer because I just couldn't make a Dunmer sorceress look anything like I wanted her too. It would be nice if there was a pleasant (read not-angry) expression possible.

edit: It just occurred to me that I would love the black pirate pants for my Dunmer without the top so he could show off his body tattoos so, definitely, male/female variations in the costume sets.

Well, as far as the male wedding suit goes, I would like to wear it as well as a female, but ... the way the pants are not pulled up high enough leaving a gap which looks like the guy has no feeling for proper elegance at all, ruins this suit for me. It looks like a peasant put into a noble man's suit - unfortunately he stays a peasant this way, the elegance is ruined by the improper way to wear this suit.

@milkbox I think with the new bosmer outfits it depends as well on the age of the player, if she is liking this kind of outfit or not. If I would be 40 or not in a very good shape, I would think twice to wear it, but I am 28 and so I like it a lot. I am used to wearing short skirts and I like especially wrap around skirts like this one - comfortable to wear, they do not hinder motion at all and look stunning, given that I have a sportive figure, which supports this style. If I would not have this figure, I would not even think about trying this. So maybe this is just a matter of this, age and probably how sportive someone is.

Look at the dress of the duchess of Cambridge again - if she would not have a very sportive figure, she could not wear this dress, because it is highly problematic for someone who does not work out and cares for her figure - so this dress is revealing as well, not as in showing flesh, but it tells a lot about her figure and her lifestyle. It is a revealing dress as well.

This was my impression as well - the simpler style is nice in it's own right. I wear the simpler one with characters, which have a more fancy hairstyle - too much fancy stuff would ruin the look, so the simpler one is better in this case.

I absolutely love that your argument is "if you don't like this outfit, you must be old and unfit", because, how could someone young and attractive possibly have a different aesthetic than your own?

But now I'm nearing the danger zone of talking too much about fashion and feminism, because really, all I want to do is kill all the things. Wear whatever you want.
