By the time the barer shop comes out ZOS will have removed any features that could distinguish one character from others.

Could be an ESO plus benefit. God knows how little of those you get for subbing.

At first I quit subbing until certain long-promised changes are finally made (this being up near the top). Then I stopped playing altogether. I got tired of being perpetually strung along with promises that either end up getting cancelled (spell crafting) or are coming "soon".

I'll start playing again if/when this is ever added (assuming nothing better is out 3 years from now)

Just to let everyone know, the title was made a year ago. (April 2015, it is now April 2016)
A year ago ZOS had confirmed that the barber shop is being worked on. Since then, we haven't heard any new news.

More news about mid game appearance customization would be appreciated ZOS, please and thank you :3

And watch it be COMPLETELY different from what we are asking for. I'm thinking it's going to be a "Barber Assistant" for 5K crowns.

It's a shame too since I completely disagree with the design and implementation of Assistants.

I feel the best way to do this is to not over complicate it. Have a "barber shop" in each faction. Charge either crowns or gold (I could care less which). Purchasing the barber shop service should let you go through and tweak and change your character's appearance including race, skin color, and gender. I don't know many people who will be willing to pay money to only be able to change hairstyles around. The community asked for this because of the racial imbalance in game rn

At the core I think it should be as simple as...
    • visit barber
    • pay gold to change features
    • visit crown store
    • pay crowns to buy new features

Obv I want this to happen so bad, but I keep thinking back to a good point someone made in the thread about female models being eliminated on costumes. That was: using male-only models on costumes may cut the complexity of the rendering that needs to be done. It makes me think that ZOS is definitely trying to figure out how to fix the PVP issues and is exploring ways to optimize every part of the game environment that they can. It's almost like the game was not built to be effectively scalable.

This is just an observation though. I'm thinking that all the new stuff that a barbershop would bring also would add to that complexity. I think it's a tough situation to be in. I'm not sure we can really count on the barbershop to come all that quickly. At the same time, ZOS needs the money to come in, so then there's the chance of a rushed release to keep the lights on.

Since it's not a standard game feature I would pay for it, if they work on more appearance options. I never had a barber in eso. It will be new. I would pay for it

    New Haircuts Video

This is from the post here: New haircuts discovered in Thieves Guild

Some of these actually look incredibly good. Others still look like the ends were "trimmed" with a weed whacker, completely destroying their appeal to me. SIGH Also, STILL NOT ENOUGH LONG ONES! Let's hope this is actually remedied when the barber shop DOES finally, SOME DAY, drop!

Yeah, but there have been a lot of nice things the NPCs have that we will never get. This video isnt an official announcement that the hair styles will be a part of the Barber Shop,..whenever it finally comes out.

I agree with the notion, though I would much rather have things split up a little, like... namechange not from the plastic sorceror, but from a recordkeeping clerk in your faction capital... etc. More immersive that way.

Once we have an recustomization feature, putting "new option packs" into the crown store is a logical next step. Including options to have "any skin shade, any hair/eye color" irregardless or race (would work wonders for playing "halfbreed" characters... as we know from the lore, the racial features are from the mothers race, but some physical features may come from the fathers race...) One more option pack I would really like to see are some that allow "structural" options... like exceeding some sliders, and make an extra-extra tall nord as a distant cousin of Lyris for example...

But above all else... I want those character ecustomization feature to come...

Anything like barber shop or expansions should all be ESO plus features.

On that note, barber shop should not just be hair, it needs to , I repeat , NEEDS TO be like the face sculptor in Skyrim. With sex changes and all.

Well done and splendidly laid out!

    The prices...well.... :s

One of the adornments I regularly use is the subtle one that makes your character look like she's wearing eye shadow...first notch as I recall.

Love the reference to Tonsorial but I'm a nut for that kind of thing.

And the first surgeons were also called barbers.

Back to the subject, I would prefer that hairstyles be like costumes that you could purchase and put into your Collectible inventory. But your scheme is more comprehensive by far.

lol. I had no idea surgeons were called barbers... wait, is the red in the red and white pole BLOOD?!?!?

Anyway... What I really DON'T want is hairstyles to be added like costumes and for that to be the end of it. Sure, it would function but the ESO experience really should be more than that. It should be immersive. I would actually prefer all crown store items be purchasable through merchants, but I understand the need to have the Cash Shop available 100% of the time.

Using this thought process and your input I have added the ability to change hairstyle & adornment one time when Hairstyles or Adornments are bought from the Crown Store. Thanks for the input!

Would you be against a "Barber-on-call" Token from the Crown Store? Where you pay 200 Crowns and you can change your hairstyle, adornment, or hair color anywhere you are.

That's not quite accurate. Surgeons weren't called barbers. Barbers were surgeons as opposed to doctors who weren't and didn't do any surgery or bone setting.

I would like the cost of a basic change within the original creation screen to be much lower. To make it a gold sink penalizes the new player who realizes once out in the bright light of day that they made a terrible mistake. We have all done that and the early gold is not that easy to come by. Not everyone ha a sugardaddy V16 willing to hand out some gold for a new hairdo.

    1. gold prices should be more expensive. make it 10x, i don't care. but changing your look (in my honest opinion) should have more "permanent feel" to it. not something you can do 10x a day, every day. After all, hair does NOT grow that fast. (ps: and think about the khajits and argons)
    2. hair and facial hair should have a time limit. there must be at least a 24hr cooldown, or 7 days cooldown (even better!), for the same point above.
    3. Tatoos or scars or body marking, I really REALLY hope would be permanent. Let that sink into your mind for moment. Tattoos. Scars. Agree?
    4. I'm 100% ok that all hair styles available currently in-game during character creation is immediately available, but new styles available in crown store. My point is, i don't want barber shop to start with even LESS option than current char creation.
    5. No - I repeat, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - hair dye. You pick a color during char creation, you stick with it. I swear the day I see somebody with green or pink hair running around, not only I will boycott the game, I will do my very best to advise all of my guilds to leave with me.

    thanks,

I don't agree with any of this. It is purely player preference and has nothing to do with anyone else. To make it "more permanent" is to leave it as it is and many of us found that there were issues after were got out of the creation screen. Maybe minor ones like ears sticking out of hair in an annoying manner maybe something too big or too small or just out of balance. If changes are going to be expensive then everyone should get one free do-over to make adjustments.

I, personally, liked the mirror in KOA: Reckoning. I changed my hair, style and color, face tattoos and jewelry with every change in armor. Hair dye doesn't have to mean pink or blue it could just be the black all of us Altmers have been screaming for. I like change but I'm cheap and won't spend real world money and will begrudge every piece of gold.

Yeah, I think that's a case of realism being taken a tad too far.

Character re-creation/barbershop is one of those things that should be flexible in what can be changed, not reduced to a point where only specific changes can be achieved at specific times. Like, yeah, sure, discourage people from changing every day but don't make it where the limited options completely defeat the purpose of why everyone wanted a barber shop in the first place.

spent 5k crowns on one of my characters, got to level 30, then noticed her chest and torso are out of proportion. I'd gladly spend another 2k crowns to be able to adjust the body of this character ive put so much time into over the past week.

That is a common theme. I know I have done something similar myself - made a neat character, levelled for a long time, then noticed someday a little detail, either something I overlooked in chargen, or something that looked all right in chargen, but not so great in live game when te character is in motion... got all vexed because "not perfect". A hip shape here, a ha d shape there, a voice tone here, a suboptimal adornment choice there... it happens.

And after a while, rerolling just is no longer any kind of viable option. Not when one had invested over y aear in crafting research and horse training, yes? Not to mention all the nifty things one bought in the crown store (though I guess most of those are account-wide anyhow)

So, yes... recustomization is coming. Just... not fast enough to suit our yearnings... I mean, it was announced in fall 2014, but... plans change, things go meh... and now we still have only an "No ETA" to soothe our burning desire to make our characters all perfect... when we so want this...

    You beautiful person, you!
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
