I wonder if this date was picked so that they can pick up the base game changes related to classes, Veteran Ranks, etc.

Better to have it ready than a terrible launch, I suppose. I just wish people on a particular plartform (PC, Playstation, XBox) didn't have to reinstall and re-roll to play on a different server.

There was early talk that it would be in "Spring 2016" which could be interpreted as March or April and not June. All the dates that I have ever seen are June, but who knows what people might think and what may have happened to the date before they announced it.

The Japanese server will be run by a third party company. It looks like they're localizing the game but will also restrict access to Japan (maybe with some exceptions).

Hopefully they come to EU servers, at least give an option to do so if they want. Japan is good country, I'd imagine they have very good internet connections. Maybe they should go to Africa, or near European Countries just to boost EU servers.

Btw, didnt The Secret World had global server, players from all around the world played it just fine. Speaking of Funcom, Funcom revealed their next game its Conan Exiles, its H1Z1 clone I think. I was gonna play H1Z1 on PS4 but Im giving it a chance before it.

We would have far worse ping coming to EU servers. Not in the interest of a new market or even an existing one.

TSW had global servers and no lag, and Zen cant do it? Ping is so bad excuse to move to Japan, EU Cyrodil lags for us Europeans too, Japan is going to lag for Japaneses players too. Im just afraid Japan doesnt get one good populated megaserver like we in EU dont and ESO is F2P-bound, but if they merge Japan and EU, we should get one good megaserver, as far I know NA has 3 good Cyrodil Campaign so they are good.

I get that there will be lag in Cyrodil, but what you are missing is the fact that distance to the server matters despite what type of internet you have. That distance creates additional lag that we have on top of what is created by the server. Just by distance alone if the Japanese player base was forced to play on a server located in EU we would have no less than 1/3 second extra ping. Silly idea...

    This.

The network round trip between my location and the NA megaserver city is half of what it is between my location and the EU megaserver city. That is before we even get into how long it actually takes the megaserver to respond, which adds to that. My game-reported latency is between 90 and 100ms longer for EU than NA. A large portion of this difference is the increased distance to the server.

Splitting ESO into three megaserver camps was the right decision to make. What I wish that they had been able to do was bridge the megaservers so that they acted as a single megaserver, allowing EU/JP/NA to play together on the same platforms. That is a pretty complicated goal to achieve, though.

The network in Japan should be really good, so the response time of the server will be a much larger factor in determining the game response and latency. If ZOS can resolve their server and problems that add to the latency and fps problems with the game, the Japan server might be the place to play this game.

The one thing that I don't understand is why characters aren't global. For account management and tracking, having global characters shouldn't be an issue and would allow you to always play on the server closest to you. It would be very useful for people that move around a lot and it's not like it's a technological impossibility.

As I recall, he wanted to leave the forums because he kept getting slapped by mods for blatant ToS violations. Really blatant. I'm surprised he quit instead of getting the banhammer.

At any rate, without new information, this isn't a thread that needed reviving.

ESO will fail horribly in japan. One thing asian MMO's are always spot on with and that's graphics. They may not have one lick of end game content. They may be full of grind and gold sellers, but.....The character models are always amazing in that asian mmo way, the costumes are always the kind that draws tons and tons of players to cash shops (skin, lingerie and big swords). The worlds are always achingly beautiful ESO is none of these and quite the exact opposite. They have cut every corner they can in regards to character customization, costumes and graphics.

No offense but I generally dislike the Japanese game esthetic. It can get to be a bit over the top, too flashy, and as you point out it over-sexualizes things at times. I'm fairly certain a lot of people I've played with over the years agree. There are certainly a number of Japanese games that have hit my radar and I've enjoyed, but I don't really see it the way you do. If US/EU players enjoy playing Japanese games with Japanese esthetic, I'm fairly positive there is a market out there for American games over there. SOME of them MUST like it. :) I say this as someone who has gamer connections friends that come from Asia who actually quite like to see the 'Western' esthetic as well.

In regards to character customization I really don't see how you can say what you have. ESO is one of the best games out there for customization, and it is going to only get better when they add the barber-shop feature.
