Maybe people would quit because that sounds boring. I doubt there would be rage involved.

If I stumble upon 2 grinders in a spot I finish my business quickly and leave. If one of them sends me a rude tell I make it a point to tag everything until they leave. Just saying not being a jerk pays off sometimes. Keep in mind 100% efficiency is not everyone's top priority and some people actually play for fun.

While I find complaining grinders silly, this comment bothers me. You feel joy out of ruining other peoples' in-game experience?

it's funny as mentioned here before some players see others who mess up the grind spots on purpose and when I see that I do the same to their spot and then when they leave I reset the usual circle :) back so when others join in it is normal again.

Also here's something to think about next time a grinder seems like a ***. These people are usually up there with the simple task of leveling an alt for hours, and every few minutes a quester comes along and ruins the exp for them.

Also a PSA: Don't grind in groups of more than 2...you lose exp this way unless that finally got fixed.

No, I will kill whatever mobs I see on my way. I will never purposefully try to mess with grinders. I will not change course to take part in a big mass of grouped mobs. But I will kill everything in my path, even if someone else has already engaged the mob.

I really don't care if people are trying to maximize their grind. People can try to do all sorts of things in the game. But if people want the grind instead of playing the game, the burden is on them to make it work.

best option though if you know where a grind spot is but don't know the route. look at someone doing the route and follow. I have done this a couple times and never had an issue before

I've remarked on this once in another thread.
After being told on one occasion to "get out, this is MY grind" in a dwemer ruin where I was trying to do a quest, and had my own questing hampered by jackasses, then as far as I'm concerned "grinding etiquette" can be stuffed firmly and fully where the sun doesn't shine.

I'm a little tired of being told what I can and can't or what I should and shouldn't be doing by over inflated egotists in the game who seem to think they own mobs or areas. At one point, I always tried to be polite, considerate and agreeable where others were clearly grinding, but having never received such considerations in return, I no longer give a stuff about grinding, and I will kill everything that I have to, to finish my objectives.

This happened to me in Cyrodiil recently. I was told 'DON'T TAKE THE KEEP, WE'RE GRINDING' but I had a warfront mission to take the keep, so my groupies and I took the damn keep and to hell with them. I think the opposing players were happier that we did it properly.

I have no problems with people grinding if that's their cup of tea, but it isn't mine, and I want to be able to fulfil my quest objectives without being ranted at for it.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend, my Shining Light. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

its not elitist, its about courtesy and sharing. we all know the grind spots are limited so why be an ass.

I'll give you the same answer I give others in zone when I get tired of their moaning about people not grinding properly or respecting some mystic grinders etiquette - because many of those areas of well populated mobs that you mistakenly define as 'grind spots' are also quest locations that people need to visit or simply areas in a shared game that others travel through, rather than calling others asses for simply playing the game maybe you should reconsider how enormously self-centered and spoiled you come off by thinking you have a right to claim a particular area and the mobs within it to yourself. And the lack of self awareness to use the words courtesy and sharing in a sentence designed to tell rudely people to get off your personal grinding area area is epic.

Many players don't chose to grind, need to grind or want to grind - we simply want to enjoy the content without tedious little blanks telling us which areas we can and can't kill mobs in because they feel it is their private hunting ground...

I have gotten some good tips from players who chose to give me advice or group with me rather than just rage.

But I also think that if you are using an area in an alternate way -- such as grinding or farming -- you need to accept that people who are there doing what they should (questing, fishing, etc.) need to be able to do their thing and move on. So long as you don't scew with those I have no interest in interrupting your grind/farming.

    Agreed.

The grinding for levels in ESO is nothing compared to EverQuest. I hear people whining about having to grind in ESO, and I just chuckle to myself and move on.

I see grinding in ESO (as I'm running around Questing), I'll find a comfy spot on a hillock or bluff that overlooks the grinding loop area. I'll pull out my trusty chair, turn on area chat, and just amuse myself at the comments made while they're pulling 1,000 mob of Zombies over to them.

Then I move on, content that they have no idea what real grinding is. :D

Low level players that are newer to the game tend to do a poor job of grinding appropriately.
Solution- Keep an eye on the people around you to see if you are missing something or pulling mobs the wrong way. Also send a message to correct someone or suggest a new method.

High level players that have been around for a while will run ahead of other people and try to take as much as they can for themselves.
Solution- Slow down and stop being so greedy, or else the "low-level" people that most of you gripe about will contine to pull mobs in a awkward fashion just to get any xp at all.

I've been in both positions and been a victim of both positions. People just don't seem to care, so I'll be lounging over here until the week is over. I would rather grind slower without other greedy people making it more difficult for me.

In theory, no. Questing and exploring are game mechanics, grinding isn't. So in theory, questers have priority.
In practice, people *could* make some efforts to accomodate everyone. But that has to go both ways, and when you read the OP, it doesn't sound like it goes both ways.
Result : priority to questers, grinders out. Or just stfu...

The problem is that in some hubs part of the reason that there are multiple mobs is because part of a quest will be to kill so many of them or to kill them until they drop 10 items or a single specific item like a key... however because mobs are plentiful they are wiped by grinders or grind groups in a swift efficient way - the result of this is that the quester can simply be blocked from proceeding. I've had this when levelling alts before where grind groups have literally forced me to leave the area and come back out of core hours to complete a quest because even when asked politely they will not allow you to complete the quest.

Thus my salty response earlier in this thread...

Should grinding ever be something in ESO though? Grinding is not legitimate content like quests or dungeons are. It's just a boring shortcut that is only valuable by virtue of its increased XP gains. Not exactly a captivating experience, and its a good thing games are finding a way to not be so reliant on them.

What I don't get is, just because some people get to a grind location first, do they think they therefore OWN that spot until they're done grinding? This is an MMO after all, not a single player game.

Just had my own, first ever, negative experience with this whole thing. I need to level one of my alts from level 44 to 50... I go to a well-known grind spot just to spend a bit of time to go up six levels... and there's four people grinding there. So, I join in, I follow their route, I help draw npcs into mob, etc. Then I receive a whisper... "Pls lv" WTH?!? So I respond with a not so pleasant retort... normally people INVITE to group, not act like they own the spot. So I continue on, not being a jerk but just joining in the hunt... I receive several more of the same "Pls lv" whispers. I ignore them. Then he sends me, "You're costing me 200 xp". Again, WTH? Then add me to your freakin group if you don't want to lose XP. I swear, the mentality of people these days. I want, I want, therefore the world revolves around me and should do what I want attitude.

To the very possessive grinders, be polite when you ask someone not to screw up your grind.

Outside of Cyrodil, there's nothing you can do to stop them.

Let that sink in, you are the supplicant here. You are the one asking somebody else to give way to you.

If you are a jerk about it, the consequences are yours to cope with.

How true that is! I played EQ for over 7 years, and these folks don't even have to worry about someone pulling half the zone down on top of you in a giant train to try and kill you out of a great grind spot with worthwhile named mob which dropped something expensive.
