So, I got pissed off at all the lag in Cyrodiil and Hew's Bane... and I was about to unsubscribe... but, since this is my first MMO- I wanted to check out other MMO's that were available. I went to MMORPG.com to see their top rated games. No, ESO is no longer on the top... but I did want to browse through some of the games and watch videos of the game play.

I came to a halting slap in the face. Most games look cartoony and the graphics suck. And, from what I can tell, everyone complains about the same thing on all MMOs... latency, FPS, and bugs. I mean, seriously, go check out videos of some of the 'top competitors" and you'll realize that ESO isn't bad at all. The top games like WOW, SWOTOR, DCUO, etc all look like games you can play on your mobile phone. Even though the newest competitor, BDO, has good graphics- but it still looks as if you're playing a Tekken game in between riding a horse from town to town. (It'll give you friggin' epilepsy!)

I don't know if this is a complaint or compliment thread anymore. Congrats Zeni- you have a beautiful game with a fantastic storyline and voice acting... but please work on the lag. I'll be over here eating a slice of humble pie.
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

I understand where youre coming from. DAoC spoiled me in that sense. WoW came out a few years after DAoC and I couldnt stand the cartoon art so I never played it. ESO shares some similarities in the art work and is what initially drew me in. I then found out about 3 faction warfare and I was sold.

Yeah I used to complain and be a bit of a negative nancy, until I realized that ESO is actually one of the far better products on the market. Then I also started to remember what was fun about it, and realized that it isn't ZOS that made me dislike the game for a time, but rather all the other negative nay sayers on the forums.

    Screw the forums.

While the game is great even superior for an MMO it is not the best game by far in gaming over all. It had the potential to be one of the best but was squandered. At least the enjoyment outweighs the development grief.

I was curious about WoW so I watched a stream a few days ago. I had no idea it looked so horrible. I expected a lot more.

I had installed WoW a few weeks ago just to experience a trial session. I logged on once but the game seemed so outdated that I assumed it was due to being in the original content from many years ago. The UI lacked any finesse, but I assumed mods could help.

Someone bought Aeon for me years ago but I never installed it. I decided to give it a look. Wow. Hideous and incredibly awkward interface. I did some intro quests and bailed. Maybe I would have enjoyed it when it came out, but it is so dated it wasn't worth it.

I haven't tried any other MMOs. I assume there must be others that I could find appealing, but those two were a major disappointment.

Not a big loss though. There are so many other games worth playing.

I guess I did also play Path of Exile for a few hours a while back. I though they did a good job with that game.

Not only that, but it was in development before 2001. So yeah, of course it hasn't aged well. In it's prime it was a good looking game though with awesome spell effects.

That's why I am glad ESO dumped DX9 and I hope they continue to improve the game engine with more shinies and higher texture fidelity like Conan and Secret World in their prime (like tessellation).

Exactly. I took a break from ESO to play some Tera and then Blade and Soul, and from all the annoyances on those games (especially BnS) among many other past annoyances on games like Runescape and WoW, I have to admit, ESO is on a pretty decent level when it comes to enjoyable mmos.

I'll be honest, I actually like DCUO's art style. It fits with the game's aesthetic.

But, yeah, honestly, looking at MMOs? ESO is a very solid game. There are other games that do some things better. But, if I'm going to spend another 600 hours in a game, it's probably going to be this one.

MMO are like fastfood. Can they make it more healthy, delicious...? Yes, but that would cut down the profit. ESO has a lots of potential, but ZOS, like any other MMO publishers, will not push it to its limit. They rather do 50% their best and get 70% of the money they could get, than work with 100% effort and only get 30% more. Any, ANY MMO are the same. The older the game, the worse. Game like LOTRO now like an old cow that is only fed 30% of what it should be, because Turbine and their boss have new younger cows to milk.

Is fast food free and made disgusting on purpose so you feel forced to buy overpriced condiments in order to be able to even put it in your mouth? The newer the game the worse it is in this regard.

I wonder why they dont update it's graphics a bit though. It's ok,but real cartoony. Not as bad as Guild Wars though.Good Lord. The females are ok,but the males are like hulking Neanderthals.

They are updating it a bit with every expansion. Look at the starter zones and compare them to WoD ones. Theres a huge difference. They also updated all the character models for WoD. Thing is they want the game to be playable on older machines too.

Make a fresh night elf charater and have a look around the NE starting zones (which havent been updated since launch) and then go to current WoD zones and tell me you dont see the difference in graphics fidelity. Also look at your character and then go to options and switch the client to use old character models. Tell me theres no difference.

Im not telling you the graphics are on par with ESOs as far as polygons, textures and particle effects go but if youre trying to say the game looks the same as in 2004, youre simply wrong.

Thought about giving other MMOs another try as well when I was getting a bit bored of ESO, and as a digital artist I was not impressed at all. Eso has by far some of the best graphics in an MMO that doesnt look completely cartoonish.

(PS: those lists never tells anything but some opinios)

See now I had 2 years of fun in DCUO, really did. Then when it started getting boring I started on the PvP side of things. Really kept it fresh and enjoyable.. the skill point grind was veryyyy monotonous and seemingly impossible at times but I like that in MMOs, plus the chat box!! There was always something to do to better your character ... I feel ESO doesn't have that, which is a shame. Yes I can grind for rune stones, or materials, or rare items or... I could just buy them for quite cheap prices from other people... on console our only 30 day campaign (CP permitted) has been taken from us, and in PvE everything is locked behind a paywall, that is expected .. But with there being a huge sub following and DLC payments, you'd think there would be a lot more for people to do in this game. These are just my opinions and others will think differently to me..

Now there are PvP vendors so the pve grind isn't really needed unless from a min max point of view but if it's for pve then by no means do you need to be min maxed as 95% of dungeons don't even need a healer or tank to complete.

I must admit though I still can't bring myself to stop playing this game, partly because of the amount of time I've put into it but mostly because there isn't another current MMO on console - when there is, I will be hanging up my ESO gloves, with barely many happy thoughts. Sad really because this game has massive potential

ESO is the first MMO I've ever played. I avoided MMOs like the plague. While ESO reminds me of the reasons why I did (and continue to) avoid MMOs, it does provide me with a sense of fun I doubt I could find elsewhere in the same capacity. I will quietly complain about the game, development, the toxic sections of the community, etc to friends or a /feedback form but no matter how much I do so, I still enjoy it when it's not bending me over backwards 8 ways from Sunday.

Of Star Wars Galaxies, SW:TOR, Rift, GW2, Wildstar and ESO i must say that as an MMO Star Wars Galaxies beat the other by far - it was my life on the side for 7yearssmthn and i miss it so much.

EDIT: I forgot that half a year of vanilla WoW i tried alongside SWG, wasn't a tough decision which to stay with.
