Formula for ESO to Become the Best MMO after WOW

If ESO wants to be taken serious as an mmo they need to fix the problem that other players are just backgroundnoise with a blue bar atop their head instead of actual human players. First thing to achieve that is actual nameplates atop our heads, including title and a chosen guild.

This is very funny to me. I just started playing BDO and the fact that everybody has namplates by default made for a very cluttered UI. When I discovered I could turn them off for everybody who is not a guildie or a party member, I found the game felt so much better.

I turn it on every once in a while for about 5 minutes, and then I turn it off again. I find it really distracting, particularly since they have 4 lines (Guild, Title, Family name and Character name)

People seem to be ignoring mini games and events. One of the things that WoW did right is that they had some really nice mini games and events that changed through out the year. SWTOR ignored this and suffered, and this game has so far ignored it and suffered. There is more to a game than just pvp, dungeons and questing.

There are more than enough lore friendly holidays to add some events to the game. Have events where draugr or undead attack cities, where bands of ogres raid towns, where daedric princes spread havoc. We NEED these things to lighten the mood and switch things up, as of now its quest, pvp or bust, which can and does get tedious.

Exactly my feelings too! WoW and other MMOs have done this part of things really well. I love how WoW has a calendar that is filled with fun stuff to do. My friend has played WoW almost since launch and since Darkmoon Faire started, has done this event every single blasted month. I like how they keep adding to this, make it fun. For collectors of costumes, pets, achievements, things like this are a big hit. The same with holiday events. I would look forward to each event to see that achievements I was working towards. Fun, fun, fun. Blizzard in my opinion has mastered the art of fun for players of all different play styles.

To take it even further, I love what WoW did with pet battles, fishing, archeology, treasure maps, etc, etc, etc. There is always something to work towards and I found loads of stuff to do outside of combat. Other games have been successful in this regard. Some things off the top of my head---LoTRO: the beautiful music system, EQ2: the shinies, housing, etc. When an MMO has only pvp, dungeons and questing, it can get dull.

I think that ESO could really add some stuff that makes the world even more engaging and I hope they do this at some point.

Learn from Conan Exiles and make it big. Somekind of sandboxsy Adventure Zone would be great, one could build up entire zone of stuff.

fixing bugs, exploits, lag, and adding more content beyond a dlc that lasts maybe a couple of days, would go along way in this game, and fixing things I mean in a timely manner not waiting for the next big update, I know things take time to code, but other companies can get fixes out a lot faster.

Rift tried just a few year ago with Raid and raid progression and let my say it didnt exactly take off. I'd stick with Innovation this time. Rift had balanced Arena PVP too and same story, people didnt care a damn.

At this point there is only to hope they are not allowed to touch a fallout online game.
I would rather have the mod community doing something with than zos, as there is usually much more honesty with them, and overall better performance from them.

The problem that ails players is not the Game, or its theme, or effects, or lag, or community.
The problem is the same problem that ALL games have: Theyre Static.

To fix this, a new generation of MMO/RPG needs to be successfully designed and implemented.
One which uses dynamic, independent, algorithmic, and persistent content.
    There exists no such game...yet.

Im talking about a game where nothing is static except the setting.
Everything else; world topography, structure layout, NPC's, "Ultimate Baddies", etc... are all capable of being completely changed and/or eliminated via player actions.

Because of the logistic scope of such a game, developers have not tackled the challenge yet.
But once this becomes feasible, we will see truly dynamic virtual environments that only retain their persistent "theme", i.e Tamriel, its races, history, layout, etc...not "Oblivion", or "Skyrim", or "ESO".
These are all static things with static environments.

Dynamic Environments are what players really want, with emphasis on a static system and a static theme.
Alas, such a world has not been designed yet, and is probably another 5-10 years away due to technological and infrastructural limits.
But its coming eventually, because theres nothing "new" left to bring to the Gaming Worlds.
All the ideas have been tried, tested, and worn out, with the surviving champions themselves starting to Fade from interest; WoW, etc...

I agree they need to make up their mind or give up the best mmo of 2015 title away to the 2nd place runner up. ;)

its funny that they say eso isn't an mmo but mmo= Massive multiplayer online. MMORPG= massive multiplayer online role playing game.

Both of which are exactly what eso falls under

I love this game so don't get the following twisted; I think with the release of Black Desert this game no longer has the chance to be the best MMO (or w/e the Dev's want to call it) Black Desert is what this game should have been.

That being said, I split my time equally between the two, both fantastic games!

As a side note to this, i would agree that i have seen the Numbers Dwindle. I watched ESO on twitch tv. enjoyed it but the Veterens have moved on to BDO for some new Flavor. some come back and play here but it is not for long before i see they are Back into BDO. I was told it lacks the deep story lines and immersion that ESO has but will Admit i love the richer textures of graphics. (but dont like the Anime Fighting Flare that it seems to have)

Hiding in baskets for the new thieves guild seems fun but because i probably dont understand it to well and got the first assignment butt kicked, i never went back.

The add ons seem for Veteran ranks but nothing for the 1-50 people that dont spend hours/weeks getting to VR16. None of my characters reached that stage. yet the story has kept me entertained with the way something that was plot in level 5 is now bigger plot in 35-40 area. It gets closer to being Skyrim with friends but at same time i feel this "we need Nameplates, we need Personal housing , we need to to be exactly like the other MMO's i play is killing it

I have never played another MMO before, this is my first. To be honest, i wished it was like the Old Ultima 4-6 Series where you could grab a quest at any stage and not as so damn linear as this is. "what a min guys i have to go back to the old man to get the quest marker so it will toggle the Goblin healer to get the potion we need"

WE all are going to have our favorite MMO's and wish they had the best of what we like. Problem is, we all like different things. The Dev's are not going to get it right for everyone, they only hope they made the right choice to keep their customer base.

    Yes:
    Housing
    Farming
    Seasonal events

    NO:
ARENA PVP. 1v1 in an actual arena that you can see and is a part of lore I wouldnt mind. But just random arena's that you teleport to do 4v4 is pointless. You teleport into some random area that is not connected by story, lore or anything else to the main world. GuildWars2 is the worst example of this. I cant stand WvW because it makes no sense EVER why you teleport into some unknown area that has virtually nothing to do with you game world.

My biggest compliment to ESO is that the PvP actually means something. It's out in an actual area that is a part of the world. A part of the world that factions are trying to control and capture. It's deeply ingrained to the story and makes it feel like a sense of purpose.

GW2 on the other hand its pointless, there is no lore, it's just giant battle that means nothing other than "loot".

You need WAYYYY more than just this to become the best mmo or even get in the realm of comparing it to WoW. One of the key things you missed are PvP arenas/battlegrounds. That is one of the reasons why WoW does well. There is also a huge range of other things ESO needs like race change/features, scaling up the past trials, and I'm sure there is more I just can't think of atm.

Just curious, where would these "arenas and battlegrounds" be located?

NO! We do NOT need some ancient outdated gametype. 8 v 8 would be fine, but for the love of Sanguine NOT 4 v 4s. 4 v 4s RUINED pvp in WoW, SWTOR and the list goes on. We need creativity and innovation, not some stale crap gametype that caused people to leave pvp in DROVES in other games.

As opposed to the game type that's making people leave in droves in this one?

No. The big battles are what brought people to this game in the first place. The reason people are leaving is because of lack of support and bug fixes, not because the gameplay itself.

I am also playing both however BDO didn't initially grab me (the story really bugs me and doesn't hold a candle to the superb story/acting in ESO--in my opinion of course). Also not a huge fan of combat and the keyboard gymnastics. However BDO does a number of interesting things and I would love to see some of those sandboxy ideas applied here. I'm also going to split my time however find myself playing ESO a bit more. I agree though with you...it would have been great if ESO started off a bit more like BDO but without the awful translation problems lol.

Perhaps with housing, they could take a very creative approach that would be a start in the right direction. Dunno. BDO is such a different game all together and has introduced some pretty unique things. I'm enjoying working my way through all the systems and haven't even started the trading routine. I also enjoyed that about ArcheAge and would love to see some of that here in Tamriel.
