Oh cool. I'm a sound engineer. Used to work in TV but I've been freelance last 3 years. I suppose my suggestion is to consider very carefully why you are going to film school.

Singer/songwriter that actually won a Grammy in the bluegrass category. One hit wonder but spent money like I was the Rolling Stones. Went bankrupt and all my liberal arts degree qualified me for was cleaning up puke and scrubbing urinals at the local bar while begging the owner to let me on stage. Haven't been successful at that yet but I guess vomit pays the bills.

Oh cool, I would like your opinion on the molten salt Thorium reactor technology - is that a real option we have to solve our energy problem or is it just a dream and basically dust in the wind?

It's basically all about proper education nowadays, if your paper form is bad, even talent does not help a lot. Another aspect is a gap-free job record which shows that you are reliable and not hopping from job to job all the time. What you said above sounds like non gap-free and job hopping to me - so it might not be so easy to change your perspectives. Sorry, to have to say that.

Early 30's is still young enough. I finished my first degree at 23, didn't get the mark I wanted and spent the next couple of years going from one temp office job to another. I then decided to try and work for myself to see what would happen. It was going ok so I went back to university part time (Open Uni) when I was 31 and did my MBA. Finished that and decided to carry on part-time to PhD level. 36 now, 3 years of study left. Been running own business (in one form or another) for 12 years now. When I finish the PhD I'm thinking a complete change of direction and going into lecturing and writing some books. Our generation will be working until 70 so plenty of time to try different things.

With the internet now there are a lot of opportunities to do part time evening courses online. They are often not cheap, unfortunately, but are an investment. That said, if I was married with kids, instead of being a single man, then my decisions may have been much more difficult

Agree with the others, education is important if you wish to get out of what youre doing and into a different field. Or even if you dont wish to switch jobs, it still doesnt hurt to learn a second trade. Also, I really dont believe youre ever too old to learn..
This said, Im a grease monkey (automotive mechanic for those not familiar with the term) and do side work in computer repair (home and business). But I am also currently in school learning pharmacology, and I will tell you that I started school older than my early 30s ;)

I agree with that - information age is the triple-L age - life-long-learning - even having masters is just the start, not the end of being educated. It is just like a tool kit, you got the tools, now use them to learn even more about nature/life whatever. In the industrial age people could still get to a state where they were done learning. The same does not hold true for the information age and even less for the upcoming Biotech/Nanotech age - it is nearly there and it will change the world even more than the information age did. But it will include a lot more learning than ever before - a whole new world is to discover, its awesome.

I used to be a full-time theatre artist but now I'm doing that part-time while I'm managing a performance-based escape room company. Everyone who works there is an actor and I get to write the scripts, direct the actors, perform sometimes, and am part of the puzzle design process. I love it!
