Lol
but seriously... I'm none of those and use steam. Not for ESO though. Or any MMO if I can help it.
I understand the need for upgrading the code, but so drastically ditching part of client base should be done properly. We do get spam about another fluff in crown store dont you people think that Z. should use the same way to warn clients that from that patch they need to use Dx11 compatible GPU?

ZOS stated that DX9 was holding the game back from where they wanted to take the game in the future, it was not capable of rendering the graphics they want to bring to the game. So what you're saying is that players shouldn't get improvements and a better gaming experience because we should remain beholden to graphics capability from 14 years ago. I say HECK NO to that idea!
You know what, if ZOS was so confident in DX11 only, why did they remove a poll asking if you could play after the change within minutes of it going up?
That's right, they don't want you to know exactly the damage this has caused. Any argument that is said about dropping DX9 can be said about dropping 32bit client. You're right ZOS saying that DX11 is the way forward for them, now only time will tell if they were right or not. But I would start planning future proofing your machine now just in case there's another major change in 2 years time.

Came to the realization that my system can only go up to 10.1, it's an old system and has many issues so I was going to get a replacement soon enough. But seriously, no email, no pinned thread, no chicken little shouting at everyone until they are driven mad to make sure that everyone knew they were cutting support and haven't provided direction for people to figure out how to check their system. That is garbage.
And the removal of a poll? I was going to make one when I read this post? Is ZOS on that much damage control that they need to hide that? I hope that they know what they asked for, cutting off some of the players they had in order to get the shinies of 11. Whatever reasons they had to do this upgrade, if they won't come out and clearly say "We upgraded the game to DirectX 11 and cut support to earlier versions because of x, y, and z." As well as adding in how many players lost access to the game, seems like a very short sighted move with the position they are in now. It's almost like being told you can get a real shiney ring for your right hand if you cut off your left.

But they 'warned' us a 'year' ago by 'updating the system requirements'! All laced sarcasm aside, they didn't even announce it. Not everyone looks at the system requirements daily (most, when they start playing a game, they tend to not revisit a page like that). Not everyone reads the forums daily (I sure as hell don't). Not everyone watches ESO live (most of us have jobs, some of us have -two-). It's annoying for sure. And people defending the silence about it are reacting out of the "It's not my problem, so I don't care" and then say why most of us are so silent about it. It's because of threads like this that most of us move on to a new game because we can't speak without having a decent platform to even ATTEMPT to make a compromise.
It's whatever. I'll be out at least two weeks (possibly more) being the fact that the PC I run with has a lot of proprietary issues and I'm now working from the ground up. Hopefully you get things sorted out sooner than that.

To be honest, I think that's an out-of-date view. Steam is now very much the platform of choice for very many gamers, it creates a simple means of installing, updating, accessing and removing games as well as having its own discussion boards and providing easy communications between friends regardless of what they're doing or playing. I don't use it socially but I do use it as my platform of choice for any new games (but didn't switch ESO to it as the terms weren't favourable if you already had the game when it launched on Steam).
And no, I don't fit your suggested demographic - by a good 40 years!

And your proof that no one in the world is using XP anymore is? That's correct none. I can walk into business, universities, colleges, schools, NHS, government buildings, military establishments, the list is endless of people still using XP. All because Microsoft doesn't support it anymore doesn't mean that people still don't know how to use it, fine tune it, secure it for the needs required. I even have an xp running on virtual pc so I can still play older games because let's face it PC Compatibility is very hit and miss.
Is XP dead for MODERN gaming, yes totally agree.... But Wnidows 7 isn't which was right on the cross over point of DX10 to DX11. And a large portion of the community didn't touch Windows 8 with a barge pole so a fair amount of people are using Win7 (points to note I said fair amount, not all, not everyone, a fair amount).
So next time you have some sweeping statement that's allegedly going to blow me out the water, bring some evidence with you and not hear say. Hell, I even made FakeAlGore look in disbelieve at his own source material. DX8 hey, can't wait to see the next generation of games come from that survey.

Lol I like how his friends using Steam means nothing but yours not using it is somehow supposed to be relevant. Steam has over 100 million active users according to the data they released. They control majority of the PC gaming market your anecdotal evidence doesn't change that.

What are you talking about? PCI compliance is a fact of life for companies right now. It's even referred to in laws in some states.
Govt is huge, some school districts are huge, but even they are slowly rolling out new PCs with Win7. I haven't ran into a govt XP machine in a while. My company is huge and we just got done replacing all XP machines last year to be PCI compliant, rolled out W7 same time and are already pushing W10.
What are you talking about with XP? Hold on to it all you want it is still unsecured, and UNSUPPORTED. Browse your Internet's and play your old DX9 games all you want. Modern games move to modern times and ESO only had DX9 because of how long it was in development. I'm glad they planned for the future. Catch up.

Wow, the hypocrisy in this post, you gone from XP is dead to XP being phased out by all the establishments that I mentioned, even going as far as your company has finished upgrading from XP last year (which was just over 2 months ago).
And they didn't have DX9 in the game because of length of development, they had it in to get the most people playing the game. You might want to read the following thread...
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,1034123/The-Elder-Scrolls-Online-Improved-effects-with-DirectX-11-Exclusive-Tech-Interview/News/
Where else can I respond... Oh, PCI compliance... Because some States (got a specific number or at least a link to one of these laws to look at?) have it referred in their laws, 196 countries (Yes countries, believe it or not the state of Florida does not class as a country) must also refer to PCI compliance in their laws.
Now you seem fixated that I have Win XP. which I added on Virtual PC. Now to run Virtual PC, you need to install it on a machine with an operating system, which for me is Win 10, which runs all my games bar 1 (can you guess what it is?). so errr, maybe you should have asked what os I run first, just a hint.
And finally, unsecured and unsupported. Can't argue with unsupported... But you really have no idea what you are talking about here do you. I'll give you a bit of an education, there's a reason why MS os pcs were being attacked more then Apple products during the 80s and 90s, it's called market share, MS had the lion's portion of it. And the cyber criminals always go for the lion's portion (more chance of succeeding). Now much of the PC world runs XP now? Not much so not really in the cross hairs of cyber criminals any more. In fact you might want to go to a Def-Con convention to find out just how safe XP is to what is currently on the market.
Well, that's put more holes in your post then a tetley's t-bag. Have a nice day

Yes, not everyone is an informed consumer, we know this because of the massive amount of whining on display.

Oh no. Hardly. I fully well support climate change. That has nothing to do with ZOS being transparent on angles they're working forward to.
Am I mad that this happened? NO. Of course not. I understand that times change and games change and evolve at a rapid pace. That's not the issue.
