Look at the Dragon Knight skills. Earthen Heart, Helping Hands, Battle Roar. Unless they readjust the way blocking works it will probably remain this way. I'm also assuming you mean in PVE. Other classes can do it, its just harder.

Dragonknignt is the bread and butter for tanks. Every class tanks decently though.

I like being a NB Tank, I have a good build in mind but it's more for later on in the game when I have rank 50 in Siphoning and Shadows.

Your comment stated not to be tank because most dungeons did not need them. He just listed 4 different dungeons/trials that were end game content that large majority of the time NEED a tank. I say majority because I am sure there are some try hards out there that can do it without one, but for the majority of the player base you need a tank. Point is, there is a reason to be tank, so saying "Why tank?" an then saying "I said 'most' dungeons" is contradictory.

16 dungeons. 4 need a tank. so go tank if ya wanna be used for 4 dungeons. nothing contradictory about it. Why choose a role the devs have nerfed into the ground in favor of DPS?

FYI - i main DK tank.

Same. An I can't think of any time on my tank I was unwanted, unappreciated, or told I was useless or that they would rather have another DPS. In fact, people still invite me to play with them. The best damage dealers are ultimately glass canons, so if you want to maximize the damage a tank is appreciated. Granted that is who I play with, and we have no problem in terms of content. I am also only VR3 with 200 champ points, so being scaled up to V16 might be different than actually being V16. The stam regen nerf might be big to you, but if you spec it right you can still tank just as easily as before, including perma block. Also those "4 dungeons" were also trials, and idk about you, but those are THE end game gear including Vet DSA for Footman, and tanks are wanted in those places. My Nightblade and his dual wield was also considered nerfed hard in the past, yet they still prove just as useful today. Those were also just 4 examples. But either you aren't a very good tank, or you have not tanked anything. I would argue that there are multiple dungeons, with the exception of the imperial one, that you "NEED" a tank. It can be done without one I am sure, but not unless you have some defense or are sorc dps.

If you're running with a good group... who have good builds.. ideally know each other & play together a bit... then I agree totally... many dungeons don't need a tank.

BUT... the majority of dungeon runs aren't done in a group like that. And the number of casual players in the game without optimized builds etc is def the majority... and running almost any dungeon without a tank in these groups will just lead to endless wipes & failure.

So while you are technically correct... in practice & looking at the bigger picture tanks are still pretty essential to the game.

P.S. for the OP... while any class CAN tank.... DK's are the BEST tanks. They simply have the best tanking toolkit.... passives, skills, many unique (EG Chains, Earthen heart stam restore etc) and can also DPS very well too.

Only vet dungeon where a tank is a flat out hindrance is Darkshade.

Other than that I'd want to run all vet dungeons with a tank

I prefer Templar (I have a Templar tank myself) - also because the skills are so versatile if you decide later that you don't want to be a tank anymore. But if you want a hardcore tanky-tank then DK may be more for you.

Dungeons are not the end game content. Trials are and you need a tank in there. Now NB tank can successfully tank there but a DK tank outshines any other class....

    Edit:
Total Veteran Dungeons- 10 (vet) /16 (normal)

    1. Banished Cells- U need a tank.
    2. City of Ash- U need a tank.
    3. Spindle- U need a tank.
    4. Crypt of hearts- U need a tank.
    5. Fungal grotto- U need a tank.
    6. White gold Tower- U need a tank.
    7. Imperial prison- Oh U definitely need a tank.

Now 7 out of 10 vet dungeons are where essentially you do need a tank, and i'm sure there are players out there who can even solo these but that's not what most of the ESO population is, so generalizing that tanks are not needed is not right.

Templar tanks are good for dungeons but for trials, DK just outdo any other class. Now that doesn't mean Templars are bad tank or anything, it's just a situation to situation based thing.

    maybe my experience is clouded.
I used to think tanks were always in need, but when i switched to DPS and ran with guildmates the dungeons were faster and easier.

I loved tanking, but after seeing what 3x DPS can do i wish the devs would show Heavy Armor some love. Removing resistance caps would be a great start.

So i guess there is 2 camps: the guild made 4 man that overpowers most of the content without tank, and the PUG group that needs a tank.
Trials are not end game atm, V12 -V14 gear is not worth the effort.

How would removing the resistance cap help? Its already easy enough to get high damage mitigation. And the only thing removing the cap would do it make it easier to get there while not blocking which I don't see the devs ever do cause it would make it unnecessary to block at all taking away the whole mechanic of it for tanks.

With most groups Dragonknights are the best and most wanted class for tanks.

    All classes can tank though.

Tanks are not needed for most 4mans group content, however it is a luxury to have a tank. Most groups do tankless runs because they give up searching for a tank, as tanks are rare and hard to get.

@Infinarius As mentioned the Dragon knight is particularly well suited to tanking.
You appear new to the forums, and as such I'm going to assume new to the game? I highly recommend not leveling up as a Tank If you are questing alone. Instead levelling as a DPS, will make things easier, quicker and probably more enjoyable. You can play as a DPS and still level up the skills you need for tanking.

@ZOS_AlanG you may want to look into the off topic/derailing of new player's threads asking for assistance.
