So if your in a 24 person group and you kill someone, the ap is 950 x 2.4 (240%) = 2280 ap for that kill which is then divided by the group members. 95 ap per kill.
On pts, the base ap is doubled but the limit of bonus ap is capped at 50%, this is to try and stop zerging by offering more ap gain in a smaller group. So in the same scenerio in a 24 man group you'll get 1700*1.5 (50%)= 2550 which is then again divided by your 24 person group which is 106.
So on the Pts you'll gain more ap anyway. However.
If your in a 5 man group you'll get 2550 (max group bonus) and then divide it by 5 which is 510 ap per kill. So in the next patch the best way to gain ap won't be to be in a huge group, it will be in a group of 5. Smaller group will have an advantage in ap gain.
