I can't see anything good comming out of limiting how players express and communicate to crown sales.

There would be no limitation at ALL... the emotes you have now would still be there. It's EXPANDING through crown store... not limiting by it.

Expanding. Limiting. You say potato I say pumpkin.

That is one of the many reasons I left Destiny, if they want to give us more emotes fine but they should not cost money. Buying mounts pets and costumes with cash is fine not emotes.

What's the difference between emotes and mounts/pets/costumes @bryanhaas ? What makes emotes unfit for the crown store and not those other things?

The mounts and costumes fall within the DLC so while it seems similar its not.
-Emotes, don't need to be in any crown store of purchasable at all.

If ZOS wants to add emotes, that is fine but designing emotes for the purpose of selling them....
    NOPE!

    ???
I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean at all. Why are emotes different from costumes ? It's all cosmetics / art / animation... what does it have to do with a DLC ?

Emotes differ from costumes and mounts because you're asking for the developer to create something from scratch. Emotes would require (technical perspective) new animations to be drawn, and such for each race and model.

Mounts and costumes are nothing more than artist skins on existing animations perhaps with a few adjustments like how we ride bears differently from horses or tigers. The thing I'm pointing out tho is its minimal by comparison as its one model for multiple types where as an emote starts from scratch for each and every emote.

THEN there is the reality that the big add-text chat crowd conundrum flooded the forums for months asking for emotes....and nothing came.....so now to add it....kinda seems a bit crappy if you charge for them.

Emotes are visual tools with which players use to express themselves. In what way would selling emotes be detrimental to the development of the game. What negative effect of Crown Store emotes can you give ?

The problem comes in because there are MANY threads specific to customers asking ZOS to add and arrange emotes for console. They have been unresponsive and unwilling to do this so if they come back with emotes for crowns....its a slap in the face and will pretty much *** us on consoles off.

For PC, I do understand that it comes off differently but....just sharing both have to work for this so emotes should be off limits for ZOS as far as crowns

With all due respect the PC players shouldn't' suffer because of the limitations of the consoles.

I agree but lets be clear....its not PC suffering due to console limitations.
Perhaps you're suffering due to ZOS limitations. PC wants emotes...and so does consoles (but with text on ours)....to me it all seems pretty simple.

Heck...for consoles just add text to existing emotes

I don't know...that seems like an awful lot of work. Wouldn't it just be easier to play it on PC?

I've never seen any point in emotes, but if people want them and are daft enough to pay for them then I'm more than happy for them to have that opportunity. I feel the same way about re-skinned mounts and all the other pointless fluff that draws people into cash shops. Personally, I'd rather pay a sub and get everything included whether I need it or not, but that's just me.

Do you honestly care if someone wanted to spend their money on something like this?

No. I don't really care that anyone wants to spend money on that and I probably wouldn't care about the emotes. What bothers me is that this is an indication of how the MMO genre has devolved into this micro-transaction hell that is making the genre look more like Candy Crush than EQ or even WoW. It's just sad that even the simplest of things like emotes would be even be considered for monetization.

I dont know how much but why not sell emotes. They give you no advantage.

They are completely inconsequential to anything else in ESO. They are barely even cosmetic yet those who love them really do enjoy using them.

I don't understand reactions like yours @WalkingLegacy , why would this be THE thing that makes you quit ESO?

How did LOTRO add emotes to their game @wenxue2222b16_ESO ?

I agree with @mattymaats that, ideally, we should get them as unlocks in the game but ESO has been out for almost 2 years now and it hasn't happened yet... read into that what you will.

Pretty simple, emotes are a staple of MMOs. The regular ones we are all use to should already be in the game and fancier, updated ones added in DLC when appropriate. (Like a pickpocket emote with thieves guild)

When a company starts to nickel and dime for little things like this, I'm out. Cash shops are already very lucrative with mounts, pets, and costumes... Not to mention XP pots and such.

Most likely it would be emotes you could get in the game or buy via the store. Not exclusively available only from the store. Even if it was tho who cares. You dont need an emote to play the game.

Because I don't believe in the nickel and dime philosophy of business and will not support it. It's not the end of the world to leave a video game ;)

Well if you leave over some emotes being in a store thats kind of odd. I dont think most people would do the same.

When they start to nickel and dime, whether it is through this or means then to me they're getting desperate, greedy or both. This is why I would stop playing.

Their current system of cash shop is lucrative. It can stay lucrative as long as they put forth the effort to make the game great.

    Playing devils advocate....

SO you feel that console players would be receptive to not only having to buy a keyboard if they don't own one but then pay for emotes that ZOS wouldn't add prior to text chat?

I just don't see this emote idea for crowns going over well....console crowds or not.

-Emotes, don't need to be in any crown store of purchasable at all.

If ZOS wants to add emotes, that is fine but designing emotes for the purpose of selling them....
    NOPE!

    Are you asking me?

I own both Xox One and PC so I don't think I can respond for others....just sharing perspectives.
I suppose you could always use emotes on the PC and then do everything else on the console. Would that be a fair tradeoff?

It's really sickening what MMOs have come to that people would even pose this as a suggestion. :'(
Do you honestly care if someone wanted to spend their money on something like this?

Help me Obi-Brad-Mcquaid-Kenobi. You're my only hope.

I agree with you, except I don't think it should be exactly like Candy Crush. If they limited it only to paying like $20 and then you can go from V1 to V16 I think that might be a fair compromise.

Well, I assume once console players have text chat they would not have to use the emote wheel Well thing is I play on pc and don't own neither playstation four nor xbox one. So not playing this on consoles either way.

    Playing devils advocate....

SO you feel that console players would be receptive to not only having to buy a keyboard if they don't own one but then pay for emotes that ZOS wouldn't add prior to text chat?

I just don't see this emote idea for crowns going over well....console crowds or not.

Well I had to buy a Naga Hex, I don't see any problem with asking console players to buy a keyboard. They are already saving a lot of money just by playing it on console anyway.

That is one of the many reasons I left Destiny, if they want to give us more emotes fine but they should not cost money. Buying mounts pets and costumes with cash is fine not emotes.

Saving a lot by playing on console? I own both and don't understand that comment. It's the same cost for the game on either.

Regards to emotes and console....I don't think you fully understand the context.
In short...emotes for crown store only is an issue and something ZOS should never do. Why...it helps to understand both PC and consoles...but as to why anyone would want to be charged for emotes....that blows my mind and is an illogical way to spend crowns. Perhaps if emotes come with doc access via crowns or ESO plus but to me emotes should just be base game patch only at no cost.

Just to recap, as it seems people aren't reading clearly - the OP is talking about NEW emotes being sold, not the base game emotes, which would still be free.

Zos should sell anything in the crown store that will help keep the game alive. That includes loot.

I'd keep emotes tied to contests. ZOS chooses the winner, everyone receives it, and there's only one new animation to work on. It's the kind of thing that would have been fun as an annual event.

I honestly didn't even consider that people would think I was suggesting zos lock currently available emotes in the crown store.

Sure. I want ZOS to make money and thus support an active development team that will create new content and fix stuff for the forseeable future. Charging for cosmetic stuff that has no practical effect on gameplay is the fairest way to do that. Game already has more free emotes than most games anyway.

ZOS really needs to attack the cosmetic aspects of the Crown Store more aggressively.

That's fair... I appreciate your candor.

I kind of hate how there has been so many compromises with ESO to support the B2P transition but that's the nature of the beast.

So far there is a pretty overwhelming majority of players who would NOT like to see emotes in the Crown Store. I hope ZOS listens to the poll and listens to the community (even though it's not what I would personally prefer).

I just this doesn't mean we never get any new emotes at all.

Just too much nickel and diming with emotes, makes it feel like a cell phone game or Destiny. Both of which are not far from each other.

How would you suggest that they make money to support the game then? They have to support a team to be devoted to this game solely. DLC content does not alone do that.

Why not nickel and diming for fluff? And what's a fairer model?
