I wanted to be a warrior with regen so the built in healing tree called out to me...

I don't use any of those heals now, though. I have actual regen.

Starting on console it was a DK or Templar for me. My brother who got the game befor me but still didn't know much about it said to pick Templar "because they're the only ones who can heal themselves." Trusting him I picked Templar and now especially after the last eso live, which I came to the realization that Zos has no idea how to balance this game, regret it immensely. I don't have the patience to start and grind a whole 'nother character.

Also you got a damage buff, what else is there u want?
Templars are awesome, probably the most unique class of all.
Also this is PTS... There will be more changes coming.

Sorry friend, but it sounds like you don't understand the class, its issues, or the depth of ineptitude on the part of the developers. They haven't fixed anything. We got Major Mending but a handful of nerfs to go with it. They buffed Dark Flare - so what? That skill was already good. I don't foresee any more meaningful changes coming down the pipe for this update.

It's funny they think changes will come from feedback and data off the PTS. Since when did ZOS ever listen to feedback and intiate changes before live patch?

Nah they'll acknowledge problems maybe and fix 4 months down the road for next quarter DLC to market as features.

It's funny how many people are mentioning this 'wrobel' person all of a sudden.

    I assume he/she is a streamer/YouTube'r.

I wish people could form their own opinions without having to use someone else's thoughts.

I love ESO, and that's why I don't watch it on twitch or YouTube (well, we've all used YouTube for treasure maps).

Streamers do ruin games for a lot of people unfortunately, needless to say it is NOT their intention to do so, but it is true. People should just play the game and be happy we have such an open and diverse world, without the opinions of a few polluting the forum.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone by saying this, but it's just how I feel from seeing the forums lately.

Not sure if you are trolling or if you are just not aware, but he's the combat lead developer for ESO. So, even if he were to stream, it would not matter as what he does affects the game no matter what.

I rolled a templar in beta to be paladin style spellsword. At launch I created another just like my beta toon, but quickly changed the build to a healer and kept him like that for almost 2 years. Now I'm back to 2h, s/b jab-spamming spellsword. Love it.

I wanted to be a heavy armor battle healer, mending wounds and raising allies from the dead while imbuing them with my righteous power.
    Close enough.

My Stamina Templar didn't have a good reason to be a templar. It was kind of the class that was left, since I needed a class for my crafter and the other classes were "taken" by other characters.

Now, for my Magicka Templar... I wanted a "Priestess of the Eight" kind of character. I wanted a healer that wouldn't die too soon and that used a mix of heavy and light armor. I didn't pick a magicka-based race for that, I wanted my priestess to be an Imperial. I just thought it was kind of interesting imagine how awful it must have been for a Priestess of the Eight to see the Daedric influence taking control of her beloved homeland.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Always been a Tank/Healer on my Temp, but recently started using 5 piece Light Armor Julianos and 2 piece Heavy (Torugs) and went DPS, actually working really well, my DPS is lower than other classes at their max obviously but for casual PVE and PvP it's fine, really enjoying being DPS Temp!

The voting options, though colorful, are too hyped and not descriptive and specific enough. I rolled a Templar to try my hand as a healer for groups. My Temp is my favorite so far. Not only are Templars great healers, my v14 is stronger than my v16 NB and Sorc. Does great damage and has high sustainability.

The Templar class can be specialized as:
    • A sun-wielding Spartan of fire and light, blazing around the battlefield smiting foes with a searing spear.
    • A sun-calling holy monk, sniping and burning foes to a crisp from a distance.
    • A heavy armor battle healer, mending wounds and raising allies from the dead while imbuing them with my righteous power.
    • A rune-guarded healer, a light-weaver who buffs allies and weakens foes on the battlefield.

Would love it if this were all options, say, with small class morphs.

But to answer the question regarding why I created a Templar, it was to test first-hand the build being argued over in this old thread when it first popped up and became a lightning rod for arguments class balance and theorycrafting.

I wanted to be a sun-calling holy monk, sniping and burning foes to a crisp from a distance.
None of these really fit, but this one is probably the closest.

I wanted to recreate my main character from Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, who uses destruction and restoration magic to compliment fighting with blades and stealth. Lots of sneaking and dodging, hitting them with spells from a distance and swords up close, retreating to heal when necessary (wearing leather armour obviously). Not exactly an 'OP' meta build, certainly not the easiest one to play but I find it fun.

Mostly it was easy because any race and class can use any weapons and armour, which is a great idea for people like me who like weird builds. But I was a bit stuck when I found out the different schools of magic weren't available. Then I realised the Templar's Dawn's Wrath and Restoring Light lines were a pretty good mimic of Destruction and Restoration magic and it became the obvious choice.

I wanted to be a sun-wielding Spartan of fire and light, blazing around the battlefield smiting foes with a searing spear.
The sun-based scrapper idea was the initial draw. The idea of being a very holistic character rather than a DPS machine was just as much of a draw, though. I wanted to build a Templar who excels at staying healthy and free to act while putting out enough offense to put some pressure on others to survive. I never wanted to be a DPS monster with no weaknesses. More of an attrition machine that could support allies while pissing off enemies even if I wasn't killing them myself.

For the most part I feel I can fulfill this role, even with the issues that Temps have. Purifying Ritual + endless sustain does wonders. The rest is just playing through it. If Focused Charge is truly fixed, I will feel pretty confident going forward (ba dun DUN.)
