I know why they want aoe caps removed. They want to be able to meteor 24 people to death at once.

That is exactly the point. With no AOE caps, anyone stupid enough to bunch up in a zerg will pay the price when their group gets wiped out by a smaller force AOEing them.
Removing the AOE cap will place more emphasis on tactical decisions where individual gameplay becomes more important than how big your zerg is.
I know why they want aoe caps removed. They want to be able to meteor 24 people to death at once.
