Why were they removed? More customization options are never bad and eso could use more
In order to make capes and cloaks work would WELL you'd have to either plan to use proper physics to animate them (which is highly processor intensive) or give them pre-designed animations, which never quite look right because they have to compensate for every single armor design in one model. The other option is to make unique cloak designs for each and every single model/motif style, and animate them all to fit that model to avoid massive clipping issues. And short of using a physics engine they'll never quite look right.I seem to recall reading it was because of clipping issues.

No they aren't, and it's to do with the physics engine. They would only add to the lag as they wouldn't be like they are in WoW etc. And tbh, Cloaks and Capes have never been a real part of any ES title ever, save for mods. So no cloaks and capes is good with me.

Just because capes and cloaks haven't been a main part of the core concept and environment in the ES series except... oh that's right.... Just almost every single statue that is present in their games. Besides since when has there ever been something wrong with presenting something new? There's already lag on occasions, and it's not even constant. Yet if there is going to be lag, it might as well be there for a good reason. Bring on the capes and cloaks ZoS. Don't listen to the nay sayers that live to be pedantic skeptics.

If you're gaming on a potatoes or glorified bluray player than I could see maybe some issues with FULL physics capes but not really.
Modern CPUs are more powerful than you give credit.

@WalkingLegacy , Did you know ZOS used the Hero Engine as a sort of "leaning tool" to make the ESO engine?
They may take away capes, but they'll never take away the fond memories I had of tucking a kitchen towel into the back of my shirt pretending it was a cape and jumping out of trees.
