Are You A Male Who Use A Female Character The Most
This may be off-topic, but I think it is important. One of the things that has always bothered me about online gaming is the emphasis placed on real-life gender. I mean, it makes absolutely no difference if the person sitting in front of a computer screen most likely thousands of miles away from you has a male genitalia, female genitalia, or both between their legs.

Especially among male gamers, I've noticed this mentality of needing to know the real-life gender of the people they're playing a virtual game with. I've simply never understood the reason for this behavior, and it comes off as really obsessive and intrusive in my opinion. If you're a male gamer who does this, I would appreciate it if you could offer some insight.

I'm glad that you did this because one of the common misconceptions about ESO, indeed one of the common misconceptions about online gaming in general, is that it is a genre of games whose players are predominantly male. I'm not saying that the people who answered here are a representative sample of ESO's entire population, but it was nice to see that there is at least a decent amount of female gamers who can help put to rest this notion of ESO being a male-dominated game.

Also, equality and all that good stuff.

    Cheers,
    Snuggle

Snuggle, there is no conspiracy here.
12 year old boys sound just like 24 year old women. I refuse to interact with children at all. I am not going to take on that responsibility. If im really uncertain whether im grouped with a little boy or an adult woman, ill ask. If its a kid, I leave, or boot him if im crown. Im not trying to meet up with any women over eso, but that doesn't mean I dont enjoy playing eso with them, or talking with them about life, work, sports, politics, etc.

I dont appreciate you labeling the eso community as homophobic or transphobic, or whatever youre getting at here. Theres no boogieman.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I wasn't labeling anyone anything, and the assertion that I was is completely laughable. I was simply pointing out a behavior that I had observed over a long history of online gaming, stating why I found it illogical, and asking if anyone could provide further information about why people choose to behave in this manner. I chose to do so in this thread because it is at least somewhat related since this thread discusses the topic of gender, in-game and real-life.

I'm not sure how that could be interpreted as trying to label an entire community as homophobic or transphobic, which is something I definitely wouldn't do since I don't believe in generalizations. In my mind, such topics and the topic being discussed here are completely unrelated. Maybe, you're feeling guilty about something. :D

Also, I partly agree about the children bit. One of the perks of playing an +18 game is that you can assume that most people are adults. However, I think kicking someone from a party upon finding out that he or she is below 18 is a bit of an overreaction. I can understand wanting to play it safe, but I think you're fine if you simply run the dungeon with the individual and don't interact with him or her beyond that.

Anyways, I don't wish to cause a fuss. My comment wasn't meant to be taken so seriously. Feel free to ignore it and act as if I said nothing.

    Cheers,

    Huh?

Probably cuz most dudes like keeping their *** and ***, even if it is a game.

Only weirdos would choose to give it up, virtual or not.

Also, harder to role play as an opposite gender...

Has nothing to do with being comfortable imo.

This seems to be a dominant mindset in zone chat, and it's embarrassing.
Then there was the woman who told me that she makes her female characters intentionally uglier so that guys in the game don't say or do rude things to her in the game. Also embarrassing.

I don't care how much you love your *** and ***. Show some *** respect to people who are different than you. Age. Gender. Ethnicity. Play style. Whatever. Dial your *** back because there are virtually infinite ways to enjoy life while being uniquely you and not a total *** to others.

Go look at the "what do you look like" thread. Not only are there over a dozen women in that thread, none are ugly, and many are quite attractive. This game appeals to women more than a lot of other games out there.

I don't like to express my insecurity and tend to hide it - but it's made my day hearing I'm not ugly! Thank you

I guess Snuggle was more referring to the common quote of many "there are no women on the internet" especially when it comes to games. In a game like EVE online for example, where nearly all female avatars are played by men this notion is especially strong, that there are no female gamers, who would play combat-oriented or otherwise complex games.

So I guess, Snuggle is just curious about what males think in this context.

I tend to play male characters exclusively in most rpgs; however, ESO is an exception. My main being a male khajiit and my female dark elf being a second. I have 6 males and 2 females in total.

I honestly don't care if a male player wants to play as a female or a female player wants to play as a male. Everyone has a right to choose!

And a serious note, I find like in a lot of other games, male characters in ESO are either ugly or look like dumb oafs :o

Or you're a normal human being that feels more comfortable being immersed into a game as their own gender. I personally think it's weird even guys play as girls, but whatever it's their character.

I find it weird why some males use female characters because they want to "look at a female ass while playing". It's a roleplaying game after all, the whole point is to put yourself in the character's shoes, isn't it?

What I find a lot more weird is, that most Redguards are played with fair or light skin, while the lore says, they are dark-skinned. The lack of dark skinned Redguards in ESO is the REALLY WEIRD thing and you would not have to be dark skinned in real life to adapt to a real Redguard in an immersive way.

Edit: So why would someone have to be female or male, in order to play the opposite gender in an immersive way. That is not wierd, that is roleplay.

I am a woman I have eight toons four are female four are male. I do not prefer one sex over the other as far as game play is concerned. However the males were intended to be rogues or monsters make of that what you will....
Husband is plays male unless he has taken over one of my characters for some reason. (like EVE where I no longer play he uses my old toon there)

Though I have had some rather creepy people pester me in other games (read as over sexual and intrusive) once they found out I was an actual woman. Since I am married (and have no doubt even if I wasn't it would not happen I am not looking to hook up with people in a game), I have no interest in cybering no desire to meet a new romantic partner..... I can see if one encountered such behavior often enough that one might play male in hopes that the knob heads would leave you alone though.

Haha, they won't, you would experience how much of a stalker women can be - I played a male in second life, this is no guarantee that you will be left alone.

Edit: but this was not my reason to play a male role, I had females as well, but I wanted as well to use the male fashion and outfits - well, I am a shopoholic there, I buy more outfits than I could ever wear, even if I would change 10 times a day and never wear something twice. I just love the fashion in that game.

I'd be more interested in playing a male character if any of the body types had a cute bum I'd like to watch for hours on end while playing. They're pretty uninspired across the board, I think they should hire more female artists or some that appreciate the end of things that I do ;) As it is, they're all female since armor tends to look better and my husband has male characters I can play whenever I feel like too. As far as being bothered just for playing girl toons, not too many people, and only very specific types, will bother a Khajiit and they're easy to put on ignore. My Nord girls on EU though, they have a harder time flying under the skeevy attention radar.

Mine is really about a 60/40 split on both numbers of characters and time put in. I really just play whatever strikes my mood.

I will be all male when DOOM Eternal comes out, all lady with Rise of the Tomb Raider, and probably one of each for Cyberpunk 2077. Though i do solidly prefer PacMan over Ms. PacMan, I would say that is really the only gaming scenario where I favor one over the other.
