Magicka DK Inquiry

Hi folks,
Getting back into the game after a long break, and having a blast; however, I have two questions for you all:

1. My DK is currently V10, is currently Stamina, but was looking to respec to Magicka -- However, my DK's race is Imperial. For Magicka purposes, would I be at a significant disadvantage with Imperial as my race, as opposed to Dunmer or Altmer; and/or, would it be worth it to restart from the beginning with an alternate race?
2. For those of you who have both Magicka Sorcerers and Magicka DKs (or even Magicka NBs), in terms of playstyle which class do you prefer the most? I'm aware that right now Magicka DKs are not doing well in PvP (my interests fall in both PvE/PvP); however, my question more pertains to enjoyability and engagement with the class.

Any additional comments are greatly appreciated, thank you!

I really like Magick dk for both tanking and dps but can't seem to survive as well as my sorc due to the sorc having power surge and hardened Armor... my dk is imperial btw

Don't change classes. Imperial race has nice passives that suits stamina and magica builds. So you can always jump back an forth and try different roles and builds.
The life's too short to have a race for every build.

For PvP, Imperial magicka DK is okay. You're lacking some oomph, but the stamina bonus is nice and stamina is very important in PvP. Few more HP don't hurt, neither, especially as a DK. Damage output in PvP is already laughable, so you're really not missing out on anything exceptional with an Imperial. Honestly, I make 90% of all kills with a Proxy Det and Meteor/Bat Swarm combo. Can use Dawnbreaker instead, and the racial fire boni won't matter anymore. Magicka is missing, but oh well.
Mind you, magicka DKs are bottom of the food chain in PvP. Along with Stamina Templars.

But if you're heavy into PvE, I would recommend re-rolling a Dunmer or at least Altmer. Magicka DKs can stack some insane DoT, which happens to be fire-based. 7% bonus to your dps is HUGE! Fire resistance is also helpful, albeit really minimal. Stamina bonus is nice for PvP or the occasional block in PvE.

So, I'd say if you're looking for a MAINLY PvP character, Imperial is fine. It is not as good as a Dunmer, imo, but you'll be fine. But if you plan on doing end-game PvE, I definitely recommend a Dunmer (or Altmer, I prefer Dunmer). The damage makes a big difference here!

Playstyle... I started as an Altmer magicka Sorc, switched to magicka DK, Ebonheart Pact and Dunmer to play with my friends. Am now leveling up a new EP Altmer Sorc.
I like them both, surprisingly. Magicka DK feels better than I expected, though it's very often frustrating in PvP. DK shines in PvE, where the feel of close-range mass destruction fire AoE DoT (what a sentence! (@.@) ) is awesome. Sorc feels more distant, more calculated and... cold? But that burst explosions are oh so satisfying, especially in PvP!
I'm glad I have both, and the only thing I regret is having to play through Silver and Gold, gosh, it's sooo BORING! Other than that, I'm really happy.
    =)

I wish DK's would het some proper magicka finisher like every class in the game has.

    And maybe some mobility skills

I don't really play my magicka DK in PvP. A well-played magicka DK can do very well in PvP (you have good CC abilities and your wings make you the bane of any ranged enemy), but I mostly PvP on my nightblade.

As for PvE, magicka DKs pull insanely good numbers. My DK can easily out-DPS my nightblade (and that's despite my DK lacking an execute for that end burst). The thing I don't like about the magicka DK for PvE is the survivability. Like Templars, you do your best damage at melee range, but unlike Templars, you don't have a good source of passive healing-on-attack that will help keep you alive. That's actually my primary complaint about DKs--I really don't mind the lack of an execute (since, even without an execute, they can out-DPS other classes), but the lack of a good source of passive healing that the other three magicka classes have (Sweeps, Funnel, and Surge).

Imperial is a great race as an all-round spec. Max stamina and health are good attributes to have on any build, so yeah it can definitely work if you want to switch between stamina and magicka.

As a PvE tank, a magicka DK in heavy armor is pretty strong.

Heh, I actually just took a look at the skill bars I use on my Dunmer magicka DPS Dragonknight. I found that I'm stacking up to 7 DoTs at a time, 5 of which are fire-based. I'm starting to think maybe I should look into using Valkyn Skoria on that character... Once she's VR16 or vet ranks have been removed anyway. I'm not going to try to get a VR4 version of the set.

I main a heavy armor magicka Dk in pvp. I find that heavy armor in conjunction with a dks many "tanky" skills and passives make my survivabilty pretty damn good. I'm often the last left alive out of my group. I do not run sword and board and I am not a tank. I run light armor in pve so I can't speak to that aspect.

Stamina management is very crucial. If you get knocked down by a wb and don't have stam to get up your usually dead. I find it's much better to avoid them altogether via positioning and proper cc. Cc is a dks strength after all

Magicka dks are poor in pvp generally speaking for most people. Find a well built well played one and you may not think the same as your staring at your death recap
