Do I dump xtra VR1-14 gear when VRs go away?

I have a bunch of alts at various VR levels (and a few new ones). I've been saving several VR sets (Med armor, Light, weapons, etc.) for the ride up from VR1 to VR14. Now I realize I won't need them after the conversion.
I should break em down and concentrate on getting/making VR 15 &16 gear, right?

I was actually thinking about this too. My guild bank has a ton of gear in the VR1 to VR14 range for use as people level alts. While it would still be useful for new players leveling their first character, everyone with at least one character at VR15-16 already would have no need for any of it.

When the VR removal does eventually happen, I think we are going to clear out a LOT of space in our bank...

I've got the same dilemma. I would say you should hang on to those sets until we have a date for when the changes will be made to the VR system. You may find that it's far enough in the future that you'll end up using some of those sets before it happens. Or you may find that it's sooner and you can just deconstruct/sell them because you won't end up using them.

For myself I'm not particularly looking forward to the day when I suddenly need to supply VR16-equivalent gear to 6 characters all at once :|

On the other hand, if you have a particularly nice piece/set of VR1-14 gear, that would sell well on a trader, may want to try to off-load it now (while it is still useful). Once enough people realize that it's going to be far less useful in the future, its value will decrease significantly.

Except..... the sets I have saved on my wardrobe mistress are not always the set I want for my alt..... a dk stamina build does not want seducer for example.
While they are sitting there doing no harm I would keep them.

Annie Spaceshifter V160 magica NB - just a thieving assassin, now retired
Katerina - 'Daedric Annie' - V160 Stamina DK - now bank alt, wardrobe mistress
Anni Bee - Vet 160Templar - pvp magica templar - Daedric Lord Slayer
Lily Malone - stam sorc - pve goddess
Rey of Jakku Plain - Vet 160 - magica templar dd

No why would you...I understand that the communication of ZOS ideas are vague but I wouldn't assume ZOS intends to devalue VR1-VR14 gear

That's not a problem of the VR system but if they do this, it becomes a large problem for gear progression

They've already pretty much spelled out their plans for VR gear, and given that CP progression is account-wide (unlike VR levels), it pretty much guarantees that any VR gear below cap is going to be far less useful after the VRs are removed than it is currently.

If you don't believe so, then I've got a full guild bank of VR1 to VR14 gear to sell you. :)

Yes, since soon any new level 50's can now wear any VR rank armor (as long as I have some CP), that stuff'll be worthless. Wish it wasn't all Bound, or I'd sell it.

Now excuse me, I need to go grind to get a bunch more Rubedo Leather....

I wouldn't state "any level 50" as I think it depends on how much CP you got whether the lower VR gear is still relevant or not. People will need either a VR16 character when the conversion happens or built up 160 CP between different characters to wear current VR16 gear.

Someone with a single low VR character and haven't earned many CP will still be limited to the same low VR gear.

That's true, but the number of characters who will be limited to low VR-equivalent gear when the change happens will be vastly lower than the number of characters who are currently limited to it.

I certainly hope they don't just add CP requirement.
I will hold on to my saved sets for as long as the change does not get to live servers.

Only deconstruct them if your main character is at V16 and has amassed at least 160 champion points. thats going to be the first gear cap from the vague description they gave us on the new system. The vague part was 10 CP to every current veteran rank. Which equals to 160 CP for current Vet16s. So if your character meets these 2 descriptions then I would decon them.

You don't even need to have 160 CP yet, since they will bump up your CP to match your level if necessary. Even if your VR16 character only has 40 CP (not sure if that's even possible to pull off, but let's say it is), your account will be bumped up to at least 160 CP because you have a VR16 character.

So as long as you have at least one character on your account that is at VR16, then ALL of your VR characters, regardless of their current VR level, will be able to wear the "160 CP" gear (the equivalent of VR16 gear now).

That's why this affects the usefulness of VR1-14 gear.

Let's say I have 5 characters on my account:
    Level 30
    VR 1
    VR 6
    VR 10
    VR 16

I need level 30 gear for the first one, VR1 gear for the second, VR6 gear for the third, and VR10 gear for the fourth, in addition to the VR16 gear I can use on my VR16.

As soon as the update hits, I now need level 30 gear, and 4 sets of "160 CP" gear, which is the same as the current "VR16" gear. The VR1, VR6, and VR10 gear I've been using instantly became very outdated.

Now I was saving various levels of gear from VR1 to VR14, so I could use it on my other characters as they leveled into it. But now, they can all use the same 160CP gear, and even my level 30 character is going to eventually be able to jump straight from "level 49" gear to "160 CP" gear. All that intermediate gear is completely worthless to me, as I'll never need any of it again, no matter how many more characters I choose to level.

I hate saying this....but when has ZOS done what they said they were thinking of doing....EVER?
Gosh....thats bad but from experience, its always been accurate.

Ya know...like game-pad support on PC ....or Imperial City to have Cyrodil access influence, Crown store would only offer convenience items that could be obtained in the game ....

On a serious note, I read what they are thinking and disagree in regards to moving any VR requirement to CP.
I did however suggest something that I think works in their favor as well as keeping gear progression intact but away from CP which would bring us to a point of no return if they do that.

    I hope not..... - http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/2568406/#Comment_2568406

Yes, That's exactly what I was getting at with my OP.
And since V16 gear requires insane mats, I will be looking to get a bunch of V15 gear.
It also implies that the prices for V15-16 mats will skyrocket, while V1-v14 mats will become virtually worthless.

Now If I (and others) cannot equip all of my "Lvl 50" alts in V15 gear, I would make use of a little of the old stuff. But basically it's going to be dying.
The timing is the complete unknown.

This is why I'm in the process of getting all 8 characters on my main account to 50 in blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking with the skill points to use VR15-16 mats. 5 characters are there already, a 6th has 1 of the 3 skills maxed, and I'm on the way with the rest. My hirelings are already bringing me lots of VR15-16 mats. Not nearly enough to be able to make gear for all of my characters yet, but hopefully by the time they're all able to use the VR16 equivalent stuff I'll have enough mats to make them new sets of gear.

Yes....I'm not really sure why people are making this a new thing.
My hope is that its not tied to CP but that still doesn't change whats in the game now.

I think people are saying they would just dump anything under VR15 since they can wear it but that doesn't make what you have useless cause the mats are still insane.

I hope ZOS moves away from CP tho and maybe use a motiff or something for ppl not using certain tiers above but who knows what will happen. It all just seems a bit crazy to me.
