Yeah, issues like these make me wonder what the testing conditions were that lead to the removal of text chat from the console versions. While loud music or backgroud noise is annoying, not being able to communicate with a person due to not undertanding them is far more prohibitive. While having text chat would not solve this language barrier, it would at least provide alternative methods of commuication that would not detract from voice chat.

Most people arent guild leaders who need to send messages to several people, so most people will maybe only send one message

If a few hundred thousands of players would connect their keyboard then it's DEFCON 2 at the cave of ZOS.

I really can't see this game lasting for years without better tools for communicating with other players. I really regret the decision to buy this game on console now. It's more like a single player game with the occasional group to play with, I'd say the majority of players on the EU Xbox server are not using their microphone the majority of the time or do not speak English very well.

The above post that mentions using party chat for 12 people and using that for text chat, are you serious? If players join your party they can talk to you using their mic anyway. This would just be like an additional voice chat channel in game with text chat but limited to 12 players this doesn't solve anything.

The issue is lack of communication of all channels at once, playing an MMO is all about communicating with others be it guild/group/area. This game has 5 guilds for for a start never mind the other options. Anybody who has ever played any other MMO and been part of a guild must feel the same way? It's not even like there is a convieniant way to send all players in the guild a message at once, not that it would make a difference as they would have to probably relog to get their in game mail, so Xbox live message it is but this is highly inconvieniant again all players are messaged individually, and you have to back out of the game to read it. This is similar to having to alt-tab to your desktop and load up your mail while trying to play the game on PC.

Any players voting no, what's the issue? You will still have voice communication, there would be an option to disable the chat box, spammy posts can quite easily be monitored and prevented by bots, more so than the idiots playing music down the mic or the people with kinnects picking up everything in the room, like screaming kids, dogs barking or somebody's mum telling them to clean their room, or as I had the other night "put on your jammis and get to bed". You think reading spammy posts is bad I don't want to hear that crap!

The usability of text chat would be simple, plug in a cheap keyboard, plug in the keyboard that adds to the controller, or hell how about using the smartglass app for your smart phone, people pointed out asking somebody to buy a smartphone to use smartglass as the keyboard is wrong due to the cost. I'm sorry but who doesn't have a smart phone these days that you know? Again this is also optional.

No *** Sherlock. Very few people do that however because you don't want a keyboard laying around your living room. Even if you had one, you'd still be waiting decades for a reply because the other guy is fiddling with text input via DS3.

The 5*500 guild members is an argument I had not considered, for this group text chat is probably convenient. Still, it's a relatively small group and "on the streets" text chat is worthless.

They have keyboards that can be literally plugged into the controller itself. Its pretty useful and often makes it easier to interact with the consoles text based UI.

You'll get a chat box when Argonians get decent racial passives!

lol Well PC doesn't have an in game voice chat. They have to use team speak so we should give them voice chat and us text. Then everyone's happy, right?

They would rather give away 1million dollars than have text on console. Makes me angry

Yeah, it's a real shame. The Elder Scrolls universe would have been great for an MMORPG. In the hands of other developers perhaps.
