I have often thought the same thing. It seems all they are willing to offer are what are by now old things they already had done and stashed away. But even wanting to get those things out first does not explain why they don't do ANY of the things people have requested that they already have the code for as well. Nor does it explain why the crown store is so impossibly THIN on offerings. There really ought to be something new practically every week. I never get below 6,000 crowns because there's just nothing I WANT! I sub and frankly I'd gladly spend beyond that to get what I want... IF THEY'D JUST PUT IT IN! Grrrr....

But back to the actual topic... LOL I seriously do not understand why this barber shop isn't higher on their priority list. I HATE making new characters because I have already used the only 3 hairstyles I find even remotely attractive on MULTIPLE characters! I still can't BELIEVE the ridiculously limited makeup "choices" they put in. And I swear it was ALL created by a man who has never looked at a woman in his life. Some of those makeups are more suitable to clowns than women or 1970s disco queens. Sersiously ZOS...BLUE eyeshadow and bright pink lipstick? Kill yourselves.

Please ZoS, let it be a full character recustomization for Crowns. I'm fine with limiting the changes you can make from an ingame service, but I have been putting up with having a "weak lower body", AKA skinny chicken legs (really its the game's fault for just painting armor on the legs like they would be the same thickness afterward), and a bulging torso this long only by telling myself someday I could change all that based on the little bones you toss out once in a blue moon. I only manage to keep playing by telling myself that someday I can change that. Additionally, the voice. It will either grow on you or get very, very tiresome. As a player with OCD I also get very worked up about having a race that's only good for stamina and brings nothing to the magicka table when I want to try that.

So, please ZoS, let us change everything from body, sex to race - and don't just implement a limited version first, because then the rest will go on the backburner, and it's been so.... long..... already. Cannot endure...... argh!

Agreed, in all my years of gaming I have never ever experienced a company that tries so hard not to make money from a game, or indeed even what players want!!!, hell, even Dice who does the Battlefield games does things way better and they are also notorious for allegedly listening to the community yet only delivering a portion at best.

Utterly baffling on ESO related matters, name changes I got told officially a while back, as wanted to change a character name to another one I owned was impossible.

Did not realise that it was so insurmountably difficult to change a char name to another on the same account....

TBH nowadays I believe stuff when I see it, having a 2-way dialogue from us, a small portion of their playerbase who actually bothers to come to the forums, (most people I know say what is the point, they never listen).

IMO Orsinium was a very pleasant surprise, so there is hope there, but no point imo having a 2-way dialogue and then proceeding to drip feed welcomed changes, or flat out stonewalling and nothing.

We only want the game to be better Zeni, we are all together on this journey, devs/player base etc, more actions, less words.

You already know so much of the things we want, implement them please:P

Is there a need for barber shop, when veteran ranks are removed?
Almost all players can make an alt to max lvl 50. So, I don't find a need to buy it.

True, personally I do not care at all about barber shop, but it would be good to have the opton in place for the ones who do wanna do it for w/e reason.

Better having the option at least, rather than no option at all.

[sarcasm]Suuuuure, we will delete a character with a year worth of crafting research to level up an alt just to get a new haircut, correct skinny legs or a unfortunate voice choice... [/sarcasm]

The thing is, its an option that many would spend crowns on. If you don't see the need for yours, fine, but a great many here think otherwise.
And more options pretty much always make a game better! Or most other things as well, really.

And it also would open up a whole new range of possible options for the crown store... new hairstyles, new makeups, new tatoos, new adornments, new whatever! I for one would spend sooo much on those...
Perhaps even "structural options", like, say, allowing a nord to exceed the usual maximum height scale and play as Lyris distant cousin, another "titanborn"... stuff like that.

I just want to say that I really don't want barber shop options to be limited to crownstore purchases because frankly the character creation section does NOT give you a clear idea of how you are going to look or sound in game and therefore I don't think we should have to pay extra to change those things due to the base game not giving us a good preview. I'm consistently disappointed by how different my characters look in the creation menu vs. the character selection page vs. in game, and I have recreated new characters multiple times trying to get results I like, but it gets tedious running through all the starter things over and over to test out those changes (like trying a different voice to find out if it has an annoying breakfree cry or whatever). If you want to sell extra fancy hair similar to selling the extra fancy costumes, fine although I'd personally not like to see the corwnstore filled with make-up packs etc. but please please please allow us to change all the features currently available at creation. I think you owe us that.

Nice idea for a post @Gidorick

I wouldn't mind being able to have the option to change my voice actually. It sounded OK at first in the character creation screen, but after playing with it for a few levels, I don't really like the sound of it xD

Honestly, I would be disgusted if ESO was to become like this, a virtual Walmart. This is the kind of thing mobile F2P games do. It would be the last straw for me, and I really feel it would sully the ES franchise.

I understand the need for an alternate revenue source, now that the game has gone B2P (for which it seems to me we're more and more seeing the negative consequences, with threads like this only further cementing that view). But still, I think crown store items should be done carefully and tastefully. Not "whatever makes a buck from the whales".

Call me crazy but if I were to develop a f2p/b2p game with a cash shop Id hire a team of people that would do nothing but create new visual customization options. New body types, idle/movement animations, hairstyles, beards, tattoos, scars, piercings, pets, mounts, armor and weapon skins. Id put 30-40% of what they designed into the game as content available to everyone and make the rest affordable: not charge $20 for a sword skin 'because its in a package with xp boosters' or some crap like that. Even if the sales of these only covered the team's salaries it would still be worth it to offer both free and paying players more options. Im sure the profits would be more than that tho.

Please Zos fix the body types, shorter legs with long torso looks kind of weird... and I dont want to offend anyone, but wont that be a bit of a steal to pay 500-1000 crowns everytime you want to change something on a character? Why dont they make something like the adventurers pack, where you pay once, lets say between 1500-3000 and can ALWAYS use the feature to change your character?

A lot of people would pay a few crowns to try out new custmization options for their existing characters instead of leveling a new one from 0 .

    Absolutely. Also, female running animations.

Pay crowns once to unlock an NPC who provides the service. I wouldnt even mind if it cost gold afterwards (within reasonable limits).

Personally I kinda agree, though I also see the other side.
And since the other side is also involved in the big question... "what would you rather have, a ESO with a 'tasteful' crown store that shuts down, or a ESO that makes their buck from where they can and keeps going for many more years" I go for the latter. Its already a wonderful concession that they stated their intent to avoid the worst Pay-to-Win cra... uhm... stuff.
I don't mind spending crowns on tons of extra appereance options.
As long as they don't add lockboxes, or top tier gear through cash only, I'll be happy.

Hmmm... that would be an interesting idea. I'd pay it in a heartbeat.
Though I would also enjoy a feature where you pay a small charge for every slider you do change instead... adding it up for a total cost at the end to be paid when satisfied.
The only thing I would not like would be a larger flat change to enter recustomization screen, even if you only want to fix one small detail... (like potatoface ;) and yes, I have had similar experiences myself...)

As long as I can tweak the appearance of my characters body and face I would be ecstatic.

It wouldn't be lore breaking either as Face Sculpting was in Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim.

However I draw the line on changing races. They would either have to implement respec token in the crown store and create a Yearly CD when used.

I would hate for players just hopping races for racials just so they can min/max their stats.

I just wonder how many players that we've lost, would have stayed if they were able to make changes to their characters? Many people do not like the idea of having to create a new character and start over if their main is already at a high level but they've become bored with it. Being able to change class, race, name or appearance I think would go a LONG way in helping player retention. I know when I was playing DCUO, I changed my character's name and powers numerous times because of wanting a change to relieve boredom. Hopefully these options come SOONER rather than later.

This thread just goes to show how long we have been begging ZOS to add a character recustomization feature.

Some people will argue that ZOS should fix bugs first and then work on a character recustomization feature but the bottom line is this thread was created by Gidorick back in April 2015. That was 8 months ago. Plus, this feature has been requested long before this post.

There will always be bugs. Will there always be a request for this feature too?

I'm very annoyed at the lack of dark hair colors for the Altmer as well. I had to give up the racial traits I wanted and make Bosmer instead to get black hair and more variety of eye colors. :( I know the lore... but it just kind of feels Too limited colorwise for the Altmer.

Perhaps. But seriously, there's a whole GIANT thread ZOS themselves made asking people what sorts of things they want in the Crown Store and precious few of them have been done. Many requests for polymorphs and skins that would be super easy for them to do. The whole "change your character" thing...code is already there so why isn't that a thing yet since players have been begging for it since launch?

We have access to the character editor when we create our character so give us that same editor again through an NPC in a shop except without the ability to choose our name, race or class.

It's really damned simple to implement when you think about it.

I'm still hopeful that they will add this sort of feature. In other games I have played, you had a set amount of time (usually a couple or three days) to go back to the menu and make changes after creating a character, so that you could see what they actually look like in game. They really, really need that here if they are not going to add some sort of barbershop type option.

Characters seem to look very different in game than they do in the creation screen in ESO. Most of mine ended up looking angry, despite taking pains on the most recent one to avoid that because of the other angry characters. And the voices are really hard to test... I thought my dragonknight sounded okay when I made her but now her voice is driving me nuts. That said, making a character from scratch takes me ages and I don't want to be bothered continually deleting and starting again.

If they don't change it to offer a limited time free edit after creation, then I think any option implemented should not be restricted to crowns only. I don't think it would be that hard to put in an NPC that would just take you back to your saved creation screen and let you edit the existing options (which would cost gold, of course).

If the game has stayed subscription powered, that's how it would have been.
But as often mentioned, that ship has sailed and sunk a long time ago.
Now its different, and they need to make their profit through the crown store, so all of that will almost certainly be crown-powered. After all, they need to pay their employees, server upkeep and show enough of a profit that the suits in charge don't pull the plug...
The feature has been promised almost since launch day.
Indeed it has. And then got sidetracked like everything else when they diverted all resources to the console release. You may have noticed how many of the other things promised a year ago were released only now - Imperial City, Wrothgar/Orsinium... so, chances are good character recustomization will finally come... "soon™" ;)
