I started playing GTA1 and the original NFS game at age 3, I am sure most people started gaming before the 90's here though.

Think I was about 13. Started playing MUDs, and enjoyed them so much started writing them myself. Pretty much how I got into programming. Wouldn't be in the career I am now if not for video games <3

Technically I was 2, but I'm not sure the first year or so counts because I wasn't really aware that there was any connection between my button mashing and what was happening on the screen.

Either way the first game I remember was Hungry Horace on my parents ZX Spectrum. Those squishy rubber buttons, and gradually coming to the realisation that I could control what happened on the TV (and how amazing this seemed) is one of my earliest clear memories. That and how frustrating it was waiting for the cassette tape to load while praying it didn't crash and have to be restarted, which it usually did.

In spite of that I've been playing computer games in one form or another ever since. I'm 30 now, married to another gamer and fully intending to keep going as long as I can. :)

Atari 5200 when I mostly watched my dad. Then got the Sega Master System in '86. My brother and I played the heck out of Alex Kidd in Shinobi World when that came out.

Does pong count? Most of my early years were free of video games because they didn't exist yet.

I started playing on the Intellivision at around age 4 with a game called utopia. It was a precursor to games like populus on NES and eventually the sim city games.

My real jumping off point on gaming was with the release of the NES at age 6. I've never looked back :)

    I think.

The memory is from when I was about 2 years old. ...Extremely hazy and lacking details, but the Game Boy (not even color!) sticks out.

A friend asked me to play the game with her, I said no at first, but some how she talked me into buying it.

    Now I am a gamer!

I have a love and hate relationship with this game. I enjoy the crafting and now like killing people. But I don't like the changes they make. I learned to play a specific way and now i am having a hard time adjusting to the changes.

If the OP is referring to computer games them I was 12 when I played my first computer game. The year was 1969; I remember the year vividly because that was the summer when the astronauts landed on the moon. There were no consumer computer systems or video games back then. The only computer games that I played were the ones that I written in FORTRAN on the IBM 1130 during a summer school course for computer science students. I wrote games like was Tic-Tac-Toe, and Mastermind. You had to type the program code on punch cards.

Although these were computer games, they weren’t video games, so I guess the first commercial video game I played was Pong in 1972 and at the arcade.

Time sure goes by fast, but I still playing video games and having fun. Just started Fallout 4 and having a blast!
