Is a 144hz Monitor Worth it?

Just curious. I'm new to the whole MMO gaming and I'm wondering if a 144hz monitor is worth getting if you pretty much only play EsO?

Many games are FPS capped and most are capped to 60FPS (Hz), so ask yourself, is it worth spending extra for something that will be barely used?

right, EsO is my first MMO that I've played (never really had a good enough comp to game with till now) but my monitor is about 6 years old, so was looking at upgrading the monitor to something newer

    Depends what you're looking for...

    144Hz (TN panel)
+ Smoother experience overall (in any game, or even just on your desktop)
    + No tearing in game
+ No stuttering due to FPS changes
+ No need to use V Sync
    + No input lag

    - Colour quality is not as good
    - Viewing angles are not as good

(you can now get 144Hz IPS panels but they are very expensive)

    60Hz (IPS panel)
    + Better colours
    + Much better viewing angles
+ Better overall black and white levels (better contrast)

    - Potential for screen tearing in game
    - V-Sync will eliminate tearing but create stutter/input lag
    - Many IPS displays omit some "backlight glow" at the corners which can be annoying in dark scenes

I run an Asus VG248QE and love the 144Hz feature. I would never go back to 60Hz. It's not quite as beneficial for something like ESO compared to playing a FPS like Counter Strike, but it does help in any situation as far as taking advantage of the pros I listed above. I've run ESO on a 60Hz monitor before and the experience is much smoother with a 144Hz display, even though the frames per second are capped at 100 in game.

So, do you like prettier colours or smoother gameplay? That's the main difference.

If you have a high budget, go for one of the new Acer displays which are 144Hz IPS panels. Best of both worlds.

For ESO, 144hz is not worth it, 144hz are better for FPS games.

I suggest get a nice IPS panel monitor, to appreciate the beauty of this game. (and take your mind of the bugs ) :)

Well a 144hz monitor is good, but if you don't have a nice video card to go along with it then I would not waste the money.

I said no, but then again I have not seen the difference between a lower htz and a 144.

Depends on the cost, if you are getting a new monitor anyway, may as well if the cost isnt outlandish.

I would go for something with the lowest ms response rather than the highest hz

    or go for both

saw an asus 144hz with a 1ms time, was debating between that or another monitor that was a 76hz 2ms time (the 144hz was about 240.00)

    @W0lf_z13

I have an GTX 970 SLI setup, which isn't supported by ESO. However , when I play games like Battlefield 4 and Far Cry 4 at max graphics and 4K, it's well worth it.

If you play ESO 90% of the time and want something to make other, more demanding games amazing, I highly recommend buying the best you can, especially with a long warranty. I'm saving for one of the IPS 144Hz that Cazic mentioned, and will have not much use for it other than playing with my friends very rarely.

All in all, it's a matter of how much money you're willing to spend for quality and high-specs. Your GTX 970 will run a 2K monitor very well, but I'd stay away from 4K as you won't get the full perks of the high quality ones without at least a GTX 980.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

I have a 144hz LCD and I love it. However, I voted "No" because you asked if it was worth it for ESO.

If you heavily played FPS' like I do, then yes, absolutely worth it...if you have the power to push those frames, of course.

    I voted no.

I have a 144hz Asus monitor and originally ran it using 2x GTX570's (need to upgrade still lol) but what I found was that my cards would spin up a lot more when I had V-sync off and the monitor at 144. I kicked it down to 60hz, turned on V-sync and my cards have thanked me for it.

My original plan was tripple monitor due to my gaming rig also being my work rig ( web design, graphics work and photography work ) would u think just going triple 60/76hz would be better then?

Not sure why so many people are saying no. I use a 1440p 120hz monitor and there is a huge notable difference between 60 and 120. When turning, panning, and using mouse look the game play is much smoother. Turning radius is much much less blurry.

IMHO, as long as you can still hit 60 FPS, more pixels is always better than a higher refresh rate.

currently from what i've noticed using the "/fps" and "/latency" codes i've been hitting anywhere from 50 to 100 fps with 100 being a good amount of the time and roughly 80 to 100 for latency.... But the monitor is 6+ years old so im pretty sure what im actually seeing is not 100fps
