Maelstrom Arena is Elite Level, not Veteran

I don't want to be rude, but vdsa was "elite" and honestly who cares what they name it. They could name it super swagger jag mode and im sure people would love it.

I know it will never happen, and I understand why, but in an ideal world vMA would be tuned to the class you play it as. All the "l2p" rants aside, you can't honestly say that vMA is not easier to complete on certain classes. Finishing it on Sorc is NOT the same as finishing it on DK. It's just not.

Ok, first off i never heard the OP cry for a nerf. I agree with his/her assessment that this is a step above vet level.

I did normal mode with 3 deaths. (2 of them being my controls became unresponsive) It was very easy for the build i have which is the same build I had at vr14. Same equipment and all. It was my Templar in full healer gear.

I consider myself a very good player. Not an elite player since my reaction time has prolly slowed some with my age lol. I do great in group content and very well in solo content. I have almost all classes at vr16 (sorc is vr12).

I made it into the third round on vet and couldnt get past being pulled into the water and having spells hit me at the same time. Almost every death was this way.

I know after I make some adjustments in gear and learn the fights I may one day beat this on my templar. I can probably do better on one of my other classes although I dont ever see my stam DW NB making it very far.

This arena is definitely gonna show off the class imbalance. It will also show off weapon imbalance. Keep all this L2P crap out of this. Most(majority) of players will not be able to get halfway through this arena on vet on a character that they choose to play. There are special players like fengrush that can take several different types of builds through this. Do you tell Scotty Pippen to L2P because he couldnt do what Michael Jordan could do? How about telling a heart surgeon to learn to be a doctor because he cant do brain surgery?

Insulting other players because they cant get this done with a character they like to play doesnt make you a bigger person than them.

Also I would bet that more than half the people playing will never make it through the normal mode of this arena. If you make it through the vet arena consider yourself a great player no matter what class/build you are on. It is very challenging. You shouldnt try and bring others down that arent as good as you. That only brings you down as well.

Just a tip, but on stage 3 you could use the light armor shield skill, it will absorb most of the spells thrown at you, and if you have the harness magica morph, you get free mana back as-well.

I don't understand this elitism. If you have content only a few selected people is able to finish is not good for the game, specially when behind it there is the best weapons by far behind several RNG rolls. Its not realistic expect have the people farming 10 hours a day solo in a content they've paid. People will just get bored, disappointed and will move on. Have fun palying the game with your 4 elite friends.

I seriously do not believe that they are aware that they are the type of people who are the reason most people hate MMOs, people do not want to play with them because they have a self-centred elitism outlook and think they are better then everyone else.

I tried it, its stupidly hard, even if you win, you do it by respawning 10+ times, and thats not winning in my book. (veteran mode)

It also requires you to not use your usual build, you have to change it to something optimized for that exact stage etc, wich imo isnt fun because thats like using a specific build when dueling a sorc or a dk or a stamina or magicka build, wich isnt fun imo.

Change the bars to what ? Hardened Ward and Healing Ward ?

    ZOS balancing has 2 modes:

    A thousand times this.

I died a lot of times in normal mode on the first run because I did not know the mechanics. Once you know how to stop the one shot kill mechanics it's mind-numbingly easy to beat the normal mode arena. I can one hit kill almost every mob and I literally stand in fire like I don't give a f*** despite being a vampire, never use a potion, never use a sigil, let the bone colossus spawn in the last stage because it's only fair to the daedra.

Vet mode is in the right spot IMHO and with v15 gear and 198 cp I still have to go past stage 3, but it's an actual challenge, I had to think about the skills on my bars, use sigils and pots, avoid damage.

The normal mode is too easy compared to vet, not the other way around.

How about ZOS fix the lag in the arena? So annoying to be going through your Arsenal, seeing you have full health and then bam. Dead. No reason, no boss hit just death. Sigh.

Would be nice to have like a delay after you die for when mobs respawn, like 30 seconds or so. So annoying when you die and need to repair, eat or get those tri-pots or food from a mail someone sent you because you ran out, or all 3 at once xD

I see people complaining that they don't want to modify their build, that they don't want to spend time learning content, that they just want clears handed to them like free Halloween candy. It's really sad.

The arena does take time to learn, yes. But after you learn all the mechanics, it really isn't so bad. There are more and more players clearing because they're learning. You should HAVE to change your build up, break your mold. You should HAVE to learn content. A lot of what was missing from this game was some challenge. Literally everything has been faceroll. Leave the arena be. It's hard, yes, it is. I was enormously frustrated at some parts of it, but it's the only time I've ever, ever felt myself progressing as a player in this game, and clearing it is enormously fun once you learn how to handle yourself in there.

TESO has always needed a third setting.

Somebody got confused with what 'veteran' means.

a vet is someone who's 'been there, saw that, did it' - hes seen the action, he knows what to do(he's not green) and he general has his sh!t together and won't make a bunch of newbie mistakes. Generally hes got a pretty good grasp of the ideas behind whatever hes doing simply because hes been around for a while.

The vCOA, vWGT, vICP(Pre-nerf) are NOT VETERAN level. They are, as said so often before, 'elite' level

This should be the 3rd diff. No 'additional' rewards (Same as vet) but add in a leader-board for those who wish to 'push the limits' - make it stupidly hard, and give the top leaderboader a 'special gift' like, maybe a customized personalized undaunted helm of choice (IE let the top ranking person each month 'choose' which helm they get, size, trait, etc)

As it is now, all you get is a bunch of *** (and the wannabee ***) who come to forums and toss the l2P thing around likes its some new cult chant.(Learning to play is exactly what covers the 'vet' idea, and for the most part, people who are at that point DO Know how to play, they HAVE Learned, but the combination of reflexes, skill choices, build/gear/etc makes it 'MORE THAN JUST LEARNING')

Anyways, long to short, we defiantly need a third diff setting.

I'm not saying that people need to "l2p". I'm literally saying that the Arena has to be LEARNED. You need to LEARN the mechanics to be able to beat it. You HAVE to actually abide by mechanics that you LEARN. After you know the mechanics, everything is very much beatable in there. It's the learning part that people are getting upset about, and it's sad.

I'm a VETERAN 16 DK, played the Maelstrom Arena veteran mode and could barely advance.

Veteran is vCoA, vWGT is veteran and vICP is veteran, already VERY challenging, therefore, I consider Malestrom Arena elite, not veteran.

Imagine I'm a VR1 and I can't complete veteran Maelstrom Arena. It's OK. I grow to VR16, I get VR16 gear and get a lot of CPs. OK, I'm ready. Nope! Still not doable. And when I say "doable" I mean that 1 out of 100 players can do it (1.000 if you like, 10.000?), not 1 out of 1.000.000.

This is elite, a level that hasn't yet be implemented in TESO, not veteran. Maybe a few players out of millions can complete it, same as a poor amateur team sometimes beats Barcelona in a friendly soccer game. Still, that doesn't make that poor amateur team a pro team.

Maelstrom Arena is not veteran, is elite.

Maybe it has been made this hard on purpose because, if it's clear that veteran is vCoA, vWGT and vICP, still not doable for the majority of the veteran players, and you still create something even harder, waaay more harder, it's undoubtly on purpose and with a reason.

What purpose and reason? I have no idea.

On a side note: I have completed normal mode and it was still challenging and fun, so I'm sooo happy! :):(:);):)

I can understand your concern, but once you learn the mechanics properly, then you'll be able to complete it. It's supposed to be very hard, that's the point, so that you have something to strive towards and something that can actually improve your ability to play this game.

No hard feelings, nothing personal, just keep on playing and optimizing your build and I'm sure that it will come around soon enough.

And I almost forgot, just have fun, will'ya? ;)

    How far have you gotten?

I've got to the 8th round so far but haven't really had more than a few hours at a time to play it since it was release and haven't even seen what the 8th round looks like.

As a DK? I have a friend who has gotten to stage 7 (don't know if he passed it after I logged yesterday) on a stam DK. I think DKs might just require a lot more work to bring through compared to other classes, I don't know why though, I mean obviously the DK shield sucks, but maybe it is just lack of people trying it on DKs and just facerolling it on sorcs >.< but out of all the completions only ~6% are DKs..

This was my magicka sorc. Once I beat it on my Sorc I'll try it on my Stamina NB. I breezed through Stage 8 in about 30 minutes late night before running into the PITA that is the final boss and banging my head against a wall for a few hours.

I do know that reflective scales are amazing in this dungeon because I run sword and board on my magicka Sorc and it is awesome. I can't imagine being able to reflect 4 things in a row with wings although I guess there is no stun attached so maybe it isn't that much better.

Few people who have beaten it so far never tried it in PTS. I'm about 11-12 hours in so far with 3 days of trying it for 3-4 hours. I think from what I see it is very challenging but everyone who tries should be able to complete it if they continue learning the mechanics and improving.

I'd imagine that a sorc would be the easiest class to do it on. The shield stacking is crazy, especially if you do the max magicka pet build, what 30k+ shields that are spammable, lol. I have yet to try it on my DK (veteran that is), but I'll try out the wings. I know my stam dk friend is using that a lot.

I don't know any sorc beating it using a pet build. With max magicka of 43K and 100 points into bastion my Hardened ward is up to 19K but my magicka regen is only 904.

I did end up beating it last night and I would call it anything but easy, and I think I could probably do the final fight at least with less difficulty on my NB.

Easy by comparison is what I meant :) And I think the completions pretty much speak to this as sorcerers on NA have twice as many clears as any other class, and DKs lacking behind with 5 (last I checked).

Better of checking EU leaderboards. http://esoleaderboards.com/index.php?choice=msa

NA is still struggling to catch up to EU in terms of members on the leaderboards.

    • EU DK 12
    • NA DK 5
    • EU NB 53
    • NA NB 25
    • EU Sorc 64
    • NA Sorc 36
    • EU Templar 25
    • NA Templar 17

Looks like NA need to L2P. 8emueuQ.png

@Teiji funny though isnt it? Even though EU are doing better, it is pretty much the same deal, DKs lack behind and sorcs way in front. Although it looks like NBs are doing pretty well on EU, maybe all those good EU players should show us casual NA scrubs how to do it, eh?

This arena in vet mode is too difficult, to the point it makes me wanna rage quit the whole game forever, call me a noob or whatever i dont care, im a monthly payer and want to do all content, yet i cant progress im not expecting an easy ride, but the machanics are clearly bollocks, its like the game hates you and punishes you, i see videos of peeps doing it with WW and they get like 20k Dps on the ulti where as mine is alot lower and ww last longer than most ulti's it bollocks, im a vamp and i dont get that, and that high a dps the boss is like half health straight away and you dont have to spend long in a fight, so more survivalable, i spent hours like 10hrs practicing to get to stage 5 and now after over 200+ lives spent just trying to do stage 5 the giant can go do one, i left that stupid round, i just cant be bothered with it.

I have crippling Rheumatoid arthritis. My hands are horribly deformed and hurt like heck on a good day. I play games. I know I will never be able to get the best gear or see all of the upper end content due to my limitations but there is one thing I expect from a game in order for me to stay in it very long. I expect to be able to play the SOLO content without too much trouble. I dont mind dying some while I learn mechanics etc but if it is as bad as people say I dont see me doing arena. I also dont pvp so that makes two zones (Craglorn, Cyrodiil), an entire dlc (IC) and part of another (at least the arena in Orsinium) inaccessible to me. Im out of game when I am out of content which is starting to look like it is not far off.

That all being said, I havent tried the Arena yet so I refrain from any real opinion or decision until I do. I wrote this for the L2P people to see that not all of us are as godly as they are. Solo only content should be able to be completed by all....

    It is NOT too hard.

First few runs you think: WTF! No one can do this.

Then you learn the mechanics, maybe you change your gear and skills. You get some advice from players who already done this. It's getting better and you reach the next stage, where you rage again on wipe after wipe.

That's called evolution. You learn how to squeeze every little dps and selfheal out of your toon.

The only things I'd like to see changed:

random + buggy stranglers in stage 3
buggy red telegraphs from poison flowers in stage 7
and the bite damage from white ghosts in stage 9 (because it's random and 8k is almost wipe)

I'm sorry, but VCOA has been easy since 1.5, homes. I can sympathize a little on WGT and ICP I had to rethink what I did, but VCOA? No...you've had since 1.5 to complete that.

ESO doesn't need a third "in between" level of content. Mobs in these dungeons are static, their tactics don't change like PvP, with time and patience and paying attention you can predict them without fail.

I have been away from the game for a couple of months and came back for Maelstrom. Immediately went into normal MA and breezed through the early round and got beat up until I learned the mechanics of later rounds. Now it is a walk in the park. Got to V16 and some new gear and jumped into cMA and got my teeth kicked in for a couple of hours and couldn't even get out of round 1.

My thought from that experience...vMA is AWESOME. Finally something that is truly challenging. I am not saying this about anyone else but me, it is a L2P issue. I have to adjust gear, I have adjust skills I use, different rotation, I have to use a different approach and I have to attack, avoid damage, defend and manage resources better. I love the challenge and I love that it exposes my weaknesses in the game and crushes me for mistakes. I do not want to see ZOS lower the bar so I can crawl over it. If I can't complete the content then so be it, it's on me. I got to finish normal mode, I do not "deserve" to finish mode....I have to earn that

I took a stab at vMSA. After 4 hours of trying to learn the mechanics I got through 3 stages. I will not be going back unless it gets a major revamp, this it adds 0 to game longevity for me or players like me.

I will also add that when I got useless set drops with well fitted traits I wanted to scream. The grind to get nothing may yet kill this game, I sure hope not.

FYI, v16 NB magicka with v16 gold gear and 360ish CP been playing since launch. I don't imagine I am the best player, I don't have that kind of time to spend on the game, but obviously I have a lot of play time in.
