Naah it still needs to pop-up cause ppl miss out on info and then post in the forums....honestly I even wants the patch notes to pop-up the first time so ppl might actually read them.
Look at the forums....most topics today and yesterday are specifically addressed in patch notes but as pointed out...so few go there to read or don't know to go there so this is a happy medium and informative.
Except this is a terrible solution. I hate to say it but Warframe, yet again, nailed this! When you load up the game you see a title screen, it has the most recent patch notes, information about Prime Access (a type of Crown Store), current events, etc. It is all available on the title screen but you actually have to use a button to switch between this information otherwise it remains very subtle. It is a perfect solution since all the information is available to the player if they want to see it.
When a major patch is released the title screen is updated visually to reflect the new content and while the patch installs you can view all of this information while you wait. It is not obtrusive or inconvenient since you need to wait for the installation process anyway. If you want to review this information at a later date you only need to select it before bypassing the title screen. No pop-ups are ever needed. Again, ZOS thinks they know best but in reality others have already done it better. ZOS just takes the easiest path for them, not for their customers.
I think this needs to be written.
If you or anyone feels that this game should be like or should mimic another then why are you playing this?
-Not suggesting to go play the other game but, suggesting to you or them...really think about why you're playing this. It's likely that much more is right here than there, so while it may bother you, is it worth complaining about? Just bypass and play as its in no way impacting gameplay or messing up anyone's account, crowns, etc. and it's less intrusive than the text chat spams from other players attempting to sale things in-game or LFG
Each studio and developer is going to do things differently, some due to staff, ownership, limitations and new opportunities.
I've been on PC all week and the last day this is really a non-issue.
Don't be so daft. I am playing ESO because I purchased the game, just as you did. Does noting how a system can be changed/improved somehow invalidate my purchase? I am merely noting how to include the patch notes, crown store update, public events (if ESO had any), etc. without using an in-game pop-up. Also, I think this advertisement should be optional. ZOS can bury the option in the menu if you want to make it bothersome to change but at least give players the option to not have pop-up ads in a game that they purchased. It's a F2P tactic for a reason.
EDIT: The irony is that Warframe is F2P and doesn't even use in-game ads.
You're comments come off as complaints on a feature that is solving a lack of information that was made very clear to ZOS over the past 4 months. Their first attempt was to do in-game announcements and the community lashed out.
Then they went passive and ppl in the community complained so later you see forum only and Twitter or Reddit and Facebook info but nothing in-game and ppl complained.
Now there is a very brief piece of information and ppl still complain.

This was not an attempt by ZOS to give players better information. This is an attempt to force the crown store on players as a way to make more money. Yes, some players missed limited time items but forcing this information on everyone is hardly a proper resolution for what a few players missed. Anyway, if this was an optional pop-up then there would be no issue here. Instead ZOS is trying to spam everyone in an effort to make more money. I'm not against ZOS making money, I just don't want to purchase a goat; and if I do want to purcahse something I already know where to look for it.
As for ESO not being Warframe, you're right it's not, nor do I want it to be. Does that somehow invalidate a better option just because another developer did it first? I mean we are talking about integrating patch notes and pay-for content into the game, right? How does comparing interfaces (not gameplay) make ESO any less ESO. Yeah, ESO's title screen has information like Warframe does, it must be a shooter now. [/sarcasm]
Phew, it's warm in here. On a serious note, there are more subtle ways of advertising, and there are more tacky ones of course. Some may be like, meh, a pop-up window, just like they are 'meh, he is killing the mobs, I will take this node in front of his nose'. But others mind and speak up about it. And they have every right to do so. Calling each other cry babies etc. won't help (obviously).
I would prefer a more subtle way of letting us know, a little exclamation point on the crown in the menu, like the one we get for a champion point? And if there is someone who missed something in the crown store because they didn't know, then they are seriously detached. There are the forums, the website, the launcher, and the game. Go and browse. But then again, I understand why ZOS would want to shove it up our noses. But well whether they have right to do it or not, discussable, it is their game and their content. Maybe they meant nothing bad.
Okay now...for everyone.

I never stated that ZOS is forcing me to purchase crowns, but I do not want pop-up ads in a game I already purchased. If a F2P wants to go that route then as a non-paying customer I would consider it somewhat justified. As others have noted there are alternative methods to notify players about new items, such as adding a notification marker in the menu for the Crown Store just like it does when you get new mail or such. Anyway, the point being that there are less obtrusive methods that will get players this information and if done well, then it can also include patch notes with the actual patch instead of forcing players to come to the forums. Other information can be included in this manner as well. The current pop-up system will not support more information without adding more pop-ups. It is effective but extremely limited in function.
As for Warframe, what does an access model have to do with a title screen interface? As @Korah_Eaglecry noted, you are arguing against the wrong thing here. What you should be telling me is why having patch notes and crown store updates on the title screen is bad for ESO.

A man goes to a local high school football game because he likes high school football, and because he likes to support the local community.
As he buys a ticket, he is handed a flyer advertising some merchandise and souvenirs which go towards supporting the team. He is outraged at the audacity of this in-your-face advertising, and decides to complain to everyone sitting around him about what just happened. Some people ignore him, while others tell him to shut up, and others agree with him 100%
But then they all realize that football is more important than complaining about a flyer, and they all throw their flyers away and enjoy the game.

Ok this caused me to read that you felt this is being forced on players...

While there are other ways...Id argue there are very few effective ways. This thread along identifies this method is most effective in notifying and offering or informing players of such offers as no one has shared it was misinterpreted or overlooked and that's the goal. It's not to force you and nothing forces people....forcing would be if the screen pops and requires you to buy crowns to proceed. That's hardly the situation here.
The patch notes while they have benefit are far too long to appear in this method. Those would be most effective done elsewhere
This serves the purpose as identified by you and others here. It's just that you don't like their approach....that's cool. Click and go...it's not a big deal or impacting anyone negatively other than eye candy
Which means they already have crowns that they can spend on stuff without having to open the pocket book and spend any more actual money... So why are these people opposed to being shown the new or limited time items that they can spend their crowns on that they already have?wenxue2222b16_ESO wrote: »Tannakaobi wrote: »I'm confused.

Because many people have already paid for a sub ie already paid for the product.

So nobody reads the patch notes? *
This is a one-time thing that you'll see the first time you log on to a character on your account (but not on each character) when there's something that's different in the featured items on the Crown Store. It's so that people are aware of the new stuff, but it's only one time so that it's not annoying.
*Other than @AmmonErebos and @KriHavok anyway...

So where in the post you quoted did I say I am being forced to purchase crowns? The fact that the pop-up is forcing the crown store on me has no impact on me purchasing crowns; you made that conclusion all on your own.
As for forcing or not, if I want to purchase an item I know where the crown store is and how to open it. I am now being forced to interact with a pop-up before I can do anything else in-game all because a 'new' item is being offered. Off-topic but I wonder if this will extend to sales on items as well? It is certainly a precipitous slope.
As for the patch notes, why would going outside of the game ever be preffered to viewing them in the client? Wouldn't it be better to offer both for those players that prefer the forums and for those that never visit the forums? I mean the only way the current method is better is if 100% of all active players visit the forums.
Again, if the pop-up was optionial then I could decide if the pop-up was worth the information it provided. Instead this decision has been forced upon me regardless of if the information provided is valuable to me or not. And for the record, it is certainly not eye candy.
