Vampire: am I missing something?

Hi all,
can someone explain to me why one should become a vampire except lore wise?
I can't see anything that a vampire can do that you can't otherwise, but you'll still have strong debuffs (fire damage and hp regen)

Thank in advance, and sorry for my bad english

No sneak speed penalty, 10% regeneration to magicka and stamina (while a skill is slotted), 100% faster to enter stealth at night.

Batswarm is a pretty good ultimate, but that will depend on what class you are playing as some classes have better ones. Mist form is a good escape, but again that depends on what you have available to you already in your class lines.

For PvE the 25% fire debuff is not that bad, but in PvP the Fighters Guild line is so strong against you it makes the whole Vampire line a wash on whether it is useful.

If you want to PVP id suggest stay away from vamp. On the other hand for PVE you get all the good stuff (10% regen while skill slotted, one of the best ultimates in game that costs ard 150 etc) while risking almost nothing. 25% fire penalty is mitigated almost entirely by CP.

Dunmer Magicka Vampire Nightblade FTW. ;)

...but yeah, it hurts when you're in PvP. Choose wisely!

I haven't played vampire in sometime, but when I did, he was godly. I played a Dunmer, Magicka Sorcerer Vampire. He would get batswarm back so fast that it was like BAT COUNTRY!!!!

Seriously though, he was so tanky that a group of VR14's (cap at the time) couldn't even damage me. Sorcerer in its own is completely over the top powerful, but combined with Vampires, it was ultra effective.

As a breton sorc, would you recommend it pve wise?

A few dungeons and bosses with alot of fire damage might be a bit tricky but a Sorc as shields for that so you should be fine if I'm honest. The passives are all good and that ultimate is still top tier.
Vampire Drain is meh though and you won't need mist as a sorc.

I don't know... My V4 Breton Sorc Vampire sucks PvE and PvP. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Fire damage doesn't do much but all other forms of damage are torture for some reason. Plus, my damage is crap even with pretty good gear. I honestly don't get it. V1 enemies can still take me down without a problem. My vampire skills don't heal much either and I'm forced to use potions to increase my health which still doesn't help.

I've played with the idea of becoming a vamp just for bats, but other than that, worthless.

As a magicka sorc you need a resto staff and slot healing ward on your second bar. Combined with hardened ward it's a powerful defense and heal.

Until you get 1-shot for 36K by silver shards in round 1 of DSA.

Anyhoo, the fire penalty is still a penalty, regardless of how much CP you have. Sure, your CP might reduce that penalty to, say, 5%, but the alternative if you didn't have vampirism would be immunity to 20% of fire damage.

I was a vamp for a while on one of my toons. Eventually ended up curing it because it just wasn't worth it for me.

I think you shoud get supernatural recovey without a vamp skill sslotted cos tecnically you're always in vampire form. If they brought this back vampire would be more viable but as it stands most classes and builds are better off without it imo.

    • pro: super fast stealthmode, powerful ulti, bonus to recovery
    • con: painful incoming damage in PvP, 1 "lost" slot

    seems quite balanced to me

If you're a shield-stacking sorc in PvE, then Undeath is a very good passive indeed that gives you an extra second or so to use Healing Ward when you're low health. You won't be putting any emphasis on health regen anyway as a mage, and whilst the fire weakness does hurt you've got Hardened Ward and Harness Magicka to lessen the pain a lot. When(/if) they fix Mist Form, it'll be rather useful for getting away to use Healing Ward afterwards and have a super-strong shield that heals you.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

I can't drop it because I need the added magicka recovery. Since I'm a bosmer, trying to be Magicka based instead of stam of which my race is stronger.

Luckily bats is still a good ultimate. But it's a waste as I need to have it slotted on both bars.

If I had a choice, I will drop vamp as Dawnbreaker of smithing just hurts so much in PVP.

Amisdt the events surrounding the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a brave few has escaped their captors and ran off as far away as they can, eventually landing on the shores of khenarthi's roost.

Armed with the skills and the scars they have endured during their captivity, these brothers and sisters in chains has vowed revenge on their Argonian captors and their allies.

They kept the names branded to them by the evil reptiles as a reminder of all the pain and torment they have suffered, and have joined the Aldmeri Dominion as a means to an end... Paint Tamriel with Argonian blood.

You could also get dawnbreaker of smited in round one dsa. Dosent change my initial post though. In pve most bad stuff that can one shot you is pretty telegraphed so kinda easy to dodge. I've never gotten hit by silver shards for that much damage in dsa before. However I have seen a number of dps (even non vamps) get rekt by the dawnbreaker of smiting ultimate that bosses do in round 1 of dsa. Again imo, pve only = vamps are awesome depending on your build. If you intend to do any kind of pvp short of only zerging, I'd suggest don't vamp.

If vamps had no plus sides you wouldn't see a considerable number of builds running it. People aren't idiots. If it's not good they will drop it. So I suggest tinkering around with it and your build and make the call yourself OP.

      I was dead against it.

      Didn't't on my tank obviously.

Toyed with the idea on my sorc and stam nightblade. Lack of heal with low health regen was a problem. Neither lacked mobility either.

      Finally did on my temp.

Healing debuff is null and void because bol.

Fire damage is irrelevant; choose breton, stack elemental and spell resistance in CP, keep harness magica up.

Fighters guild passives are a problem, but meh.

      Positives ouweigh negatives for me.

Bat swarm is probably better than any temp ultimate.

Mist form for escape as temp lacks mobility.

I slot them on different bars, so always extra regen.

Tougher to kill on low health, more time to react and heal.

      I'm loving the combo.

Yeah, I really like it on my magicka templar. In group fights I can toppling charge in, cast bats and spam jabs for some kills. Then mist form and pull back into my group, swap bars and heal. I usually have time to cleanse dawnbreaker if they open with it. Camo hunter is a pain when you get 2 shotted though.

Devouring Swarm owns in PvE for dungeon butchering. Plus it's an AoE DoT which helps trigger Skoria whenever I have Boundless Storm, Liquid Lightning, and Elemental Ring active.
