Rare Character Builds (ie. BattleMage, Nightblade Healer)

Dragonknight Healer is one of the rare builds I run across now and again.

Not really rare, though, but I still get lots of reactions along the lines of, "Nightblades can be tanks?!"

I absolutely love it, though. It started out as a gear-swap build that I added to my magicka nightblade dps/healer to experiment with tanking, but these days with the shortage of tanks, I'm in my tank suit 90% of the time. It's tons of fun to play: I have decent resource management and can dish out tons of damage (unbuffed spell power of over 1800; should be over 2000 once I switch from Whitestrake to Kagrenac for my tank set), and although I don't sport super-high resistances as a result, my self-healing keeps me alive.

    NB Tank is very OLD...

If hes a console player. Its not that old lol unless he physically looked up the loadout.

This is what I'm talking about. How the heck do you heal with Dragonknight. You would have to use mainly resto staff abilities.

Igneous Shields does a lot of lifting, Obsidian Shard can do a little work in a pinch (plus it gives allies minor buff). Barrier as an Ultimate and a few other tricks.

Well, my first DK healer, I mainly made for PVP purposes- I tend to usually level a restoration staff on the side on most of my chars for that very purpose. Paired with a lot of the defensive abilities and long range attacks, for me it works pretty well.

I'm on my second char, which I intend to level purely using a restoration staff, putting most of my skill points into healing, defensive and support in that order, with long distance spell attacks being saved for when I have to be in the thick of things. Flame whip and the fire claw thing yeah I forgot the names don't judge, are very OP so work quickly when needed.

And yeah, you do rely a lot on rest abilities and a handful from the FG & MG (blood altar works a treat). The real trick is picking your slotted abilities- too much offense and you'll be useless as a healer, so I simply reserve two slots for offense abilities. Its worked for me thus far :)

I know saptanks have been around for a while. But I only recently started playing (I didn't start playing the game until 6 months ago, and I didn't start saptanking until less than 3 months ago). And I rarely encounter one. I've met maybe a total of 3 or 4 other saptanks in-game in all my time playing.

I only see battlemages on PVP side not as much on PVE. I know they have Heavy Armor skills and Phoenix Set.

It all started when I rolled up a cute orc (see the cute orc thread for pics) and I just couldn't picture an orc NOT in heavy armor. My husband rolled up her sister, and this was at a time when for personal I-just-gotta-have-a-familiar-on-every-character reasons, all I was rolling up were sorcs.

She's only 20-some level, so no phoenix set. Goes with Hundings/Seducer, two-handed (much more an aesthetic choice than a practical one, though WB is fun).

Igneous grants 30% increased healing out. That with a restore staff is bank

Don't you be knocking blood altar!

I play ... well a lot of things ... but anyway, one of my regular parings is Orc/Sorc in Heavy armor, 2-h sword and dual weild usually uses Twilight matriarch (but you gotta keep an eye on her - if she gets bored she'll flit down the hall and aggro a mob), ward & thundrous presence. Hidden blade (morph? don't recall), and crystal shard at a distance, crit charge and WB as a gap closer.

Anyway, my beloved Breton Templar/healer partner Fianna is all about the healing, and one wonderful side effect of using blood altar is that it's a great target to remind people to "come back here if you need healing" - it's a visual cue that keeps the party from running off in all directions and makes her healing more effective. She dropped it for awhile, but the secondary "get back here" benefits were just too good to give up.

Igneous provides a major healing bonus, couple that with certain gear benefits and you're throwing around massive one shot heals. Igneous + Healing Ward is a monster heal.

High Spell Power makes your resto heals huge. High Regen provides the sustain.

Your earthen heart abilities provide some buffs to the players when you throw up those abilities to your allies around you and like I said, Obsidian Shard does help some too (throwing that likely heals your tank some).

I favor the Undaunted Healing Orb as well, since as it passes by the party it's providing a simple HoT that they can combust for some bonus heals.

Outfit yourself with all the right gear and you're rocking heals like a pro.

The trick honestly is that your party just can't run around willy nilly expecting you to spam BoL to save them (but good players aren't going to do that anyways).

Nightblade Healers are actually quite viable. From class skills alone you have things like Refreshing Path, Sap Essence, Funnel Health, and Soul Siphon, the last of which is actually quite powerful and even has a synergy, but does not effect the user.

I did try and replicate a Spellsword build with my sorcerer before the IC patch, and managed to make it fairly effective considering how awful it is to split your rescource pools in the current meta.

switched to a stamina build now though. All the effectiveness with all the (kinda) spellswordy feel

Yes, Inner Light and Shooting Star.

I wear 7 heavy 5 seducer two armor torugs pact and my shield is the 3rd torug pact for health. what is soul shine?

Soul Shine is a decent set for Casters. Adds Regen and Spell Damge and Magic. The 5th piece bonus is hit or miss if it procs or not, but it can give another 300 in spell damage (or is it 200, I forget but the number is either 199 or 299 increase)

    http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Soulshine

The thing about Soulshine that makes it so great, is there are 3 Jewelry pieces so I can have two 5 piece sets. The main issue with it is, the Chest piece looks weird without the shoulders and the shoulders are fugly, so I go Legs and Helm and then the two rings and necklace. Once I get this character to VR12, I will put Martial Knowledge on him instead of Soul Shine, maybe mix in some Syrbane.

I currently have Spell Cost Reduction Glyphs on the Jewlery, I might swap those out for Spell Damage instead, but he does have some issues maintaining magic pools in Dungeon Boss fights.
