Uhm?.. v16 Engine guardian ( Boss )

RyoAshisogi
So me and my friends went to try Engine guardian last night to farm for the helmet and the boss itself is literally impossible at v16 and it's annoying at the very start of the fight there is already 6 adds that one shot everyone no matter what and the intervals between them is so minuscule while out of no where the boss will be doing poison you will be healing and taking damage normally and right when it ends we just died from poison damage for 50k damage when it was already done and over with we tried fighting him many different times to make sure it was not a bug and it wasn't everything that happened from start to finish on the boss kept happening for 20 tries please fix this .-.

I've run this many times on VR16 and have the VR16 set including mask. It's a little tougher at this level but can still be done in the same manner as at VR14. Fight takes a little longer now as it takes longer to deal with the adds.

When you see poison recap on death, you see the sum total of poison damage taken over time, not the last hit. If you die at the end of the poison phase you will see all the poison damage that's been healed on you over the phase on the recap. It can look intimidating, but it's not hitting for that every tick.

The phase changes are random and yes you can get two white phases in a row resulting in 6 adds. Just the luck of the RNG draw.

This is honestly just learn to play in a non offensive way. I remember a long time ago when I had a difficult time doing this dungeon. Tips would be to Line of Sight the boss when he summons mobs, Have everyone in the party do consistent range DPS, make your tank stop being a tank and turn into a range DPS because there is no need for a tank at all in this fight, he just becomes dead weight and make sure your healer can manage his resources well. Good luck!

btw Hardmode is when you don't use the levers to stop his stages I believe, so make use of them when a stage occurs!

Alright I am trying to get the helmet cause I got the shoulders and I can't find a group for it besides the one I had last night which probably won't ever wanna run it again xD but I swear dwarven spheres have it out for me they just keep hitting me with richo and one shot me

Thanks for the tips man and yeah I agree tanks become deadweight in this dungeon pretty hard from what I noticed a lot of the bosses prior are really easy to burst just having trouble with last boss xD we burnt through whole dungeon in 9 minutes then engine was like I hate you

Yes they can. I recommend to keep moving in a circular pattern at a little distance as ricochet has to travel towards you and if you are never still it will never land. We line of sight the adds behind a column to force them to group then pop out and steel tornado them down while doing a circle around them never standing in one spot. Works well for us.

I know L2P is like an insult, and it's not intended that way - but this boss fight is not hard at all. I've run it half [snip] with crappy teams and thrown together builds to do the pledge, never once done anything but the hard mode of this dungeon. I say this simply to point out that it can be done and it's not that hard once you get it down, not like 'hah, I can do it'. If you have issues with the add phase - line of site the boss while you fight the adds down (and get them down - the floor attack they do can one shot glass cannons). You really don't need a tank at all in the fight, so your tank from the dungeon should be able to switch to a dps sort of build and help get the boss and adds down faster. If you need to use the levers to control the phase, you can always do that as well. And your healer needs to be on point during the poison phase, stacking in same area for healing springs is better than breath b/c it's better to have tick heals for tick damage. Rezzing people is best during the ad phase if you can get the person without the boss being able to zap you.

3-manned it in 3 minutes a few weeks back. This was before we got kitted out in gold v16 gear, and a stam Sorc who didn't use overload.

    Definitely an L2P issue, IMO.

-Prioritize the spheres over the guardian
-Use the firebomb phase to regroup and recover if necessary, otherwise this is your best chance to hurt it
-Don't stray from healer during poison phase, unless you can heal yourself fast enough while dealing damage (Magicka NBs and Crit Surge Stamina Sorcs work wonders here)

    Annulment/harness magicka/dampen magicka.

This is why I like having multiple gear/skill bar profiles. My highest level character usually tanks dungeons, but he's also got a healer setup, and a magicka DPS setup that I get by swapping my gear and what I've got on my skillbars. When I hit this boss I swap to my DPS setup before the fight starts.

This dungeon is a real doozy for those players who power-levelled their way to VR16 following some guide... and then don't have the first clue of how to do certain mechanics.

In your particular case OP, as others have said, the sphere one-shots are normal. They hit REALLY hard, so try to never get hit :) Doing circles around them helps. The poison is very easily healable, and even if the healer croaks, others might be able to survive it by spamming some shield to absorb the damage, or self-healing if they can. If the healer can't keep you alive through the poison stage (assuming no other damage is incoming) then the healer needs to get his act together. If anyone dies to the AoE that the boss drops from time to time, they should be severely punished. It's frankly one of the easiest AoE to escape: small and slow to proc its damage.

This boss is hard only if you aren't familiar with the mechanics. I've farmed this boss over 30 times at VR16 to get my helm, and once you get the hang of it, it's really easy (albeit a bit tedious).
    • Use Annulment (light armor skill). It protects against the EG's shock, fire, and poison damage. Slot it. Spam it.
    • The adds spawn every time he enters the lightning phase. Adds are a priority; don't worry about hitting the boss when the adds are up. It helps to have the tank slot a ranged taunt and quickly grab all the adds as they spawn.
    • Do not melee the boss. Everyone should be ranged.
    • Do not pull the levers. All that the levers do is shorten the poison phase. And, frankly, the poison phase is the best phase, since Annulment (see the first tip) makes this phase trivially easy to survive, and as a result, it's the phase where we are free to do the most damage. I wish this phase lasted longer, not shorter!

The only other thing I can add to this is the following:

    1. This fight is not a dps race so do not force it. The boss going around to the other side of the room is a blessing sometimes as it gives you not only regen time but time to rez if necessary.

    2. Put the crown on the healer and everyone stacks on heals...period. You run off, especially during poison, you're gonna die, and you'll be laying there until the boss decides not to tap dance on your torso any longer.

    3. Do not chase the adds, they will come to you. If you need regen time or rez time, take it. Again, it is a fight of attrition, not a race.

I run off and away all the time--Annulment will protect you during the poison phase. Yes, I'll need to cast it a few times during that phase, but it does mean that I can go off without any healer support.

Seriously. Use Annulment. It makes all the difference in the world for this boss (and for many other bosses, too; Ash Titan in VCoA, Nerien'eth, among others).

As I did this boss the last time I had the feeling that the damage output was increased a tad again. There was an increase with V16 and IC patch in general, but I am not sure if there was a stealth patched increase again a short time ago.

Nevertheless this boss is well doable.

    As already mentioned above:

-that fight is not a dps race, it's a fight to test your ability to concentrate.
-a tank with dps equip helps to make the fight shorter
-use self shielding skills, the light armor skill is a good one
-stay together to make the job easier for the healer. This won't be that easy in the fire red circle phase, but to avoid those red circles mostly by movement or self shielding should be the normal job for every group member (tank and healer included). Avoid at least overlapping intersections of red circles, because those are most likely a one shot.
-ranged dps ftw. Some people who know what they do and who are pretty good in positioning and movement may even melee him, but if you aren't such a type of player or if you aren't much experienced in the mechanics (time intervals between poison, lighting, fire phases, add phases, front AoE flame etc.) you should not try it.
-care for adds and taunt them away from the healer, because the healer will most likely be the one who will have aggro asap after spawning and one hit might already oneshot the healer if not fully healed up for a moment.
-being a vampire with a 16k life buffed glass cannon build, marks you either as a exceptional great player who is able to perform in outstanding manner at that boss or as a dumb ass, who has no clue and should be outsourced already while building the group to be no liability. So think about it and give yourself a realistic rating to which group of players you really belong, because you won't do yourself a favor to be the number one on too many ignore lists.

You don't need a BoL spamming templar at all for this boss, I heal that with my NB healer all the time if people pay attention to the above list. Everything you will need is Healing Springs, Rapid Reg/Mutagen and Healing Ward and maybe Refreshing Path and/or Combat Prayer. In add phases and when you have some time, get magicka back from the boss or the adds by heavy resto attacks. Otherwise you will have issues even with a templar healer.

I farmed the helm with a group the other night. Had trouble doing that one in the past, but found it pretty easy with this group. We used 3 DPS (ranged) and a Healer, no tank. We completed 6 or 7 times in about 2 hours.

This boss is not hard, just a long fight due to the fact you can only dps the boss in green and red modes. You should save your ultimates for when he does double adds.

If your team is falling to the adds.. find a new tank. He should be able to pull all the aggro while healer keeps him up and dishes out shards for stamina.

I'm a tank and I'm species in bow mainly for this boss.

    It's just a patience game.

Speaking for myself, I'll hang about the add spawn points every now and then so I can aggro them as soon as they spawn. Dps only have half the adds to worry about then. Yes, I can be far from healer when poison comes, but I keep my ultimate, magma shell until that phase.

The Netch boss is far worse I think. Especially as tank. Pretty stressful. A lot of adds to grab.

This boss is easy, just focus the adds, stay out of the fire and stack in the healing springs during the poisen phase.

You also dont need a tank for this boss so you can have 3x dd, 1x healer and if needed ome of the dd can off-heal.

As long aa you clear the adds before the next wave you should be fine.

Here are some tips that we use for the last boss

First of all communicate with each other
For example wich stage he is ads when you move to his back side

Stay behind the boss and @ range if the boss diside to walk in our direction
To middel and than walk just to hes back again
Dont run through him when he is in fire mode it will kill you

When the ads are comming just watch the boss what he is doing iff he walk your way just go to his back side again
Stand still and kill all the ads asap those spheres hits like a truck

Poison stage just make a path with healing springs and dps the boss down

    I hope this help

Four DPS with damage shields and healing wards (standards/novae and veils for ults)

Stand right on top of the boss and just bomb it down. Seriously works. i actually prefer doing it this way now, the ranged chase is stupid, once you realize the damage torch and lightning from the boss, as well as the add damage are easily absorbed by damage shields while you ground n pound him this boss is a cakewalk

optimally youd have a dk to chain the adds into the damage zone, otherwise you just ignore them or take them out as they get close to you

even though the boss moves, your group still sits in mitigation nearly the whole fight anyway

Otherwise do what those other guys were saying.
