So I went to Wrothgar again today, gathering V15/16 mats just to complete one writ and see whether the rewards are as useless as they are on live. All in all it took me about 3-4 hours of gathering mats. Woodworking writ cannot be completed due to the bristlecone thing that is required, after all the time spent gathering mats I was still missing 3 refined ore to complete the blacksmith writ (since I'm on a template character I can't just use what I already have), however I was able to complete the clothier writ and if they don't do anything about droprates/number of new nodes I will never ever do one of those writs again...
Here is what I got
So I used about 50 ancestor silk, will get one back from deconning that white item. There's the dreugh wax and let's just forget about the sardonyx.
So at current prices (PC/EU) 50 silk are worth roughly 30-35k gold, dreugh wax is about 2-3k gold. Doing those writs seems like one of the biggest wastes of money available in game. Sure, I could have gotten a survey and gotten some mats back but I wouldn't rely on that. I've been doing writs for a very long time on multiple characters now and the chances of getting surveys are just too low to make it worthwhile. Glass motif fragments are also only worth about 10k anymore so even if one of those had been in there, it would still have been a waste on money.
As a level 50 crafter I don't need the inspiration and 600 gold quest reward is not even close to anything that would feel rewarding.

It's not just that. Put 9 points also includes "forget about crafting max level gear for yourself." It isn't really a viable option unless your build uses only dropped sets.Elephant42 wrote: »So it looks like the situation as it stands now is like this:
Either
Put 10 points into a craft and get a few new mats but forget about doing writs.
or
Leave 9 points in a craft, continue to do writs but forget about getting any new mats from nodes.
Choose your poison - Scylla or Charybdis

Roughly translated, he says that you still find V10-14 mats because they are still needed for dailies. The ratio should supposedly be 4(old):1(new).
I asked which dailies he's referring to, since the writs definitely require the new mats. Moreover the ratio is far from 4:1 in my experience.

Thing is, they need to make this a viable way for those who do not have nor want IC, to obtain materials needed for writs AND high level armor. At this point it seems to me that IC is 1000% better for farming for mats. I can get drops all day long. For those who PVE strictly or who just don't have IC, this feels unbalanced.

Yes. Any player needing V14 mats can farm in loads of other places.

That doesn't even make sense!
Nightwood, Voidstone and Void cloth drops in VR7-10 zones and Craglorn aswell. Same with Shadowhide which is found in VR8-10 areas + Craglorn.
Or have you forgotten about these areas Zenimax?
Pangnirtung wrote: »After a few days of playing in Wrothgar with my VR16 I have come to the conclusion that the mixed resource nodes are not good idea.
Why does it seem that more creatures and NPCs now drop gold instead of items? Is that intentional?
Why is it that when I take apart blacksmithing, woodworking or clothing items that the return is so low on what I have harvested?
Right now the return from nodes and taking apart items is way, way, way too low to make the game enjoyable.
Again, can whoever dreamed up this idea of mixed resource nodes explain to us PLEASE why that was done? It is different than all the other zones. Completely unnecessary and only makes the game seem like an endless resource grind.

I'm pretty sure that when a non-VR character goes into Wrothgar they DO NOT see VR16 mobs like I do.
It's just the same as my gold zones in AD are NOT gold zones for the other groups. In Bangkorai all that I see is voidstone, etc. Do you mean to tell me that is what everybody sees there regardless of their faction?

As far as I know lower level characters will be battle leveled to VR15 in Wrothgar. Depending on the points spent in their crafting they might see exactly what a VR16 character sees. If they can already spare 10 points for any craft, they'll see VR9-14 stuff plus the occasional VR16. With no points in crafting they'll see jute/iron/maple, which should also be what a VR16 char without any points in crafting should see.
Question is, what do the special nodes contain for them? The next tier of mats or still jute etc?

I'm not sure if I actually care either way, but couldnt you just farm them up on your crafting character?
I do like the idea that only crafters can harvest the best stuff. We should be able to make money with our crafts.
