@ZOS_GinaBruno I had some issue with Maxus as well, in the regular version of the Arena.

    1) He summons his adds too often imo. Between the time he calls them back and summons them again, you end up spending most of that chasing after him since he teleports around like a maniac. Trying to keep track of him and focus my damage on him is difficult when his adds swarm me and I'm forced to dance around to avoid the wandering explosion misty bomb-things, then chase him down some more b/c he decided to pop to the other side of the Arena.

    2) This might be b/c of the mitigation bug on mobs, but even when I was able to unload a lot of solid blows on him, his health was barely dropping. I'm able to burn through his adds fairly easily though, so I'm not sure if it is the bug, or if he maybe has too much HP/Spell Resist.

I didn't spend very long trying to fight him, just about 20 minutes, but I can do more running around later to see if things are the same.

I had the exact same issue. I tried a tanky build and therefore struggled with the adds. I believe he heals himself by calling his adds in. At least that's what his health bar indicated. I spent around 40 minutes getting him down to 50% and lost the will to carry on. It was fun until that point. Maybe I'm not good enough, but I was hoping for some success at least with the normal mode. I don't expect to be any good with veteran.
I thought that could be the case, or that maybe one of his adds was healing him or something (or maybe they all were somehow). So I'd try to focus on them, but he calls them back after such a short time that there were always a few left over regardless (especially during the times I had to dodge-roll several times to avoid the roaming explosions).

I think that's the problem. It is for me at least. I manage to kill the first group, but he summons the next three immediately. There's no time to recover, which wouldn't be bad if these three would stay a while longer. But if you mange to kill them you have hardly any time to deal any damage to the actual boss.

I guess I will try a different build later and see if more damage is the key here.

Ok, I've just saw the videos in this post http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en-GB/discussion/222629/veteran-normal-maelstrom-arena-videos#latest

Could it be that I was doing the Veteran version when adds spawned on the final boss in the first arena? I couldn't see any adds in the video at the bottom (normal arena). If this is the veteran version how do I choose the normal one?

When you open your group UI (P default key) you will see two icons on the top of the panel. One is Normal and the other one is Vet Mode. Fyi, it will only allow you to change it if you are completely outside of the Arena. If you try to switch it while in the lobby, it will give you an error. You must leave the arena completely.

tested it and got stuck on a boss... no regen... no good set... miss my build.
Hope to try out more when EU chars get on there. As the regen issue is what kills me atm... sometimes it feels like health just stops regenerating... not sure if this is the case.

Seriously? If this is indeed the VR version we were playing then I'm surprised how easy the first arena is (aside from Maxus' frustrating add mechanic, of course).

I'll have to check when I get home later and make sure I go in under Normal.

That being said, I feel like there should be more time between adds being spawned and called back. Even just a few seconds so there's time to do decent damage.

Since I tank most fights, I will have to start getting used to a dps weave and learning to stay alive without my shield. It will be a fun challenge, but it will get annoying to constantly have to switch back and forth. Not to mention my dps will never be as high as others since Ive been tanking most of the game, I just dont know how best to get my dps above the 16k marker. Ill need pointers and tons of advice and my usual group that I run dungeons with will be out of a tank for awhile a little before orsinium and a little after until I get a few of the master weapons I want and get a high score in the leaderboards.

16k dps single target is above like 90% of the players that play as dps. Don't be fooled by parses used with agressive war horn, combat prayer, BiS gear, tons of CPs and a time to kill so low that relative effect of ultimates is inmense. Any content can be made with 12k dpsers if you use correct mechanics.

I'm sorry, but Round 7 (Argonian/Nix-Hound/Poison round) is just too hard. I've managed all the other arenas just fine, and I've heard that 8 is quite easy and 9 is manageable, but this is just too hard.

The boss has too much health, and is completely unforgiving if you've used all your stamina to dodge away from it so you can't CC break. Also, flowers exploding AS SOON AS I ENTER, giving me a debuff from the start? No, just no. The quake lines from the boss don't even show up, and I only know about them if I get hit by one.

Engine Guardian is not useful at all, proccing stamina all the time when I need magicka the most, and that's even if it procs at all. Even if I did have Cleansing Ritual and Purge morphed, it's still way too hard. The difficulty of this round needs toning down.

I know this arena is supposed to be hard and a multi-role check at the same time, which is why I'm not complaining about how there's way too much poison on the field. I can manage the poison, if I have the resources available to deal with it, having had them not wasted dodge rolling from the boss' attacks 24/7.

Please devs, please please please tone the difficulty down! I actually legit brought myself to tears in frustration . . .

Remember that if you feel like you're being beat hard, you should explore different strategies. That boss is super simple if you execute it properly. My first few attempts in that arena and on that boss ended miserably, but after figuring out what's going on I now have a really easy time with it. If you play it properly you shouldn't get hit by the poison during that arena, and when you mess up and do it's pretty easy to get rid of it without a cleanse.

Played a bit more last night and can confirm that we were playing normal mode. I left the arena switched to Veteran and saw a steep increase in difficulty. After that I tried normal again and finally got past the first arena. Focusing on adds was the key. It was fine to leave one or two as long as you get a few decent hits on the boss before he calls them in / get healed.
The 2nd arena was ridiculously easy compared to the first one. 3 bosses are easier than one boss calling in two groups of three adds in a short amount of time.

Rewards were a light and medium blue set item - as a tank - not impressed. Fun fights though.

I just can't figure this out. I soloed the public dungeons in Orsinium except for the bosses and get wiped on the first fight in the arena. Surely two dwemer centurions are more heavy hitting than a clanfear. Something is off.

The dwemer centurions are easy to avoid as long as you have a decent self heal and switch off these blades as soon as possible. They also cannot heal each other but only avoid damage at some points. The boss in the first arena, however, gets healed every time he calls his adds back. If you don't kill the adds fast enough this fight will take forever.

I used my dragon knight banner on the adds, which worked pretty well. I guess any AoE will do the job.

More content I can't do because I'm a healer. I refuse to change my stats, gear, any of that stuff, I shouldn't have to. I tried the veteran mode because I'm vr7, and failed so miserably.

This is a solo arena, you can't specialize in one role and expect to do well. A solo damage dealer with no heals, or a solo tank is going to have an incredibly hard time as well. You have to use a build that is versatile. You need to be more flexible.
