How to unsubscribe from select forums in Participated Discussions?

Let's say you've commented on a topic that is getting a ton of replies, and now you'd like to get rid of the flood of notifications (when you click on the globe icon in the forum bar, next to your name) and curate the list so that you're only seeing this number increment for posts you are actually interested in seeing replies on, as opposed to all of them.

I know there's the "Participated Discussions" list found here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussions/participated but there is no way to disable notifications on a per-thread basis. This is especially painful for threads such as the "Ask Us Anything" post, which is closing in on 3000 comments as of this writing. Being notified that hundreds of people have replied to a thread that you don't want to continue to receive updates on renders the entire notification system completely useless, especially if you participate on an active, pinned thread...

Note, these are just participated discussions, not bookmarks / favorite discussions.

If there's nothing in place now, could the web devteam consider adding functionality in the future? A simple button or check box next to the forum post in Participated Discussions that toggles whether you want notifications delivered for that post would be keen.

That's a global setting, though. Won't that turn off ALL notifications? I only want to turn off notifications from select threads. For example, the "Ask Us Anything" thread. I still want to get notifications for other threads (until I change my mind and don't).

Just logged in to find over 50 notifications waiting for me, all from Ask Us Anything. Please, please let me turn notifications from this ONE SINGLE THREAD off!

Well, I contacted support, and their official stance is "just keep track of the threads you want to watch manually, and turn notifications off entirely."

Maybe the web team will later come up with an option for this. :/ For now, I'm going to try using bookmarks as a tracking method, since that seems to be reasonably close to what I'm looking for in this feature. I have "comments on discussions I've participated in" disabled for Popup, and "comments on bookmarked discussions" enabled for Popup.

We'll see how that goes, since "popup" isn't clear whether that also affects the numerical count on the globe icon.

    Edit:
After a couple of days to make sure, the above seems to be the fix for this. I'm only getting notifications for discussions I've clicked the Star for, and I can toggle that off whenever I decide I no longer want to hear what's going on in a thread.

It's not exactly an intuitive way to do it, mainly because of the vague phrasing of "popup" -- which is apparently also linked to notification count/list. Regardless, disable "participated discussions popup," enable "bookmarked discussions popup" and use the bookmark star to keep track.
