It's not needed but it's a preference for some on console who are more comfortable with playing an MMO on console like it's played on PC.
That's really what this is all about...so considering ZOS' decisions and responses to the topic let's stop using "needed" and move to what "you specifically want or desire for you liking".
Edit: Pay close attn to PC changes tho...targeting was just changed to be more like console and controller support is almost done for PC with more options for PC players.
I respectfuly disagree, over 83% say its needed. And listed many reasons as too why. So out of these battles of opinions the pro text crowd is winning in a landslide not just with support but also with sound supportive arguments.
So trying to hush someone using the term "needed" just seems like a desperate attempt to smear someones statement without actually addressing his statement or this issue at hand. It has been discussed thoroughly why people feel the need of text chat and while I looked threw this thread to familiarize myself with the flow of the discussion, the only rebuttal I have seen from you is "zos said no, so its no", despite the fact that zos has changed their mind on issues they have said "no" to before. So I ask you this.... why do you continue to come with that argument when it really holds no weight?
Please understand that poll only represents forum participants where all three combined platforms (is less than 1%) as all the votes are combined and not representative of just the console community.
Also this isn't any attempt to hush anyone but hopefully to help those who want the feature to better understand, formulate and articulate the feature request accurately. The feature isn't needed as there is nothing that cannot be done without and people are doing everything and more without. It is a desired feature tho for some.
The last 30+ pages where I'm commenting is to help those who want the feature
If you still feel it's those for the feature against me than you're actually working against the thread.
Hmm interesting, I can see where you got that conclusion. However it is evident you do not have a good understanding about how polls work. Polls are only effective when there is a diverse group that is related to the subject. Hence the subject is adding text chat to eso, and the group being asked is the right demographic (a mixture of xbox,ps, and pc players) and there is a healthy amount of people who have voted already. And to top it off the poll is still active and open leaving it for people to join in as they wish and thus increaseing votes. And to even add to its credibility even further, you have to purchase the game and get the invitation code to join the forums, so not just anyone could join in. We have the people who will be directly affected by it voting and also a group that already has the feature and testifies to its usefulness.
Polls arent meant for every single person to vote on it, it is to get a people who represent the groups being affected to vote and results represent the majority and their wants. That is how every poll works. And this poll is better than most because it stays open and only people who have the game can participate in it. So in short this poll is very acurate and continuely shows the want and need for text chat. There is no way around it.
Good sir.
This poll isn't a deciding factor of if a feature is to bed added. That's where you and others need help.
This poll is a forum poll for others to gauge a discussion.
Let someone help you or this will follow the other threads since March.
Never said this poll is the only deciding factor in getting a feature added. I simply educated you about how polls work. Specifically this one. It accurately represents the whole eso community across all platforms as I explained to you in my previous post. And 83% of the community wants it. So now it is up to zos to ignore what the majority is asking for, or hear their community and add it. Thats how mmos work.
Respectfully sir your comments are not representative on how this polls results work/convey thoughts for this feature nor are the percentages you're referring to accurate for what you're suggesting it conveys.
Your interpretation of partial forum participation and segmented results will lead to arguments and debates in this thread based on the logic and math you're using. That goes against discussing a feature to be added after the company has already decided against it and responded to earlier community feedback as no.
This thread as a whole:
-The poll is not a deciding factor at all as the feature was scrapped in early development by ZOS and is if no influence of the community nor do they plan to add it based on their comments on ESO live
-The poll isn't a discussion that ZOS is willing to consider a change based on what ZOS has told the community in the past and recent as of three weeks.
-The poll results are only that of a segment of active forum users.
-The poll lacks participation from most console active players
-The entire forum population who sees the thread is less than most active players regardless of platform
-The results are skewed in regards to console as PC and console have voted where some are inactive or not on the platforms of discussion.
-The poll conveys a tone from a user who has not and does not participate in the forums who hoped to ask ZOS for a feature prior to understanding why it's not on console.
-The poll is a collection of ideas from many other closed threads where the feature is the only relatable topic but implementation and functionality are lost in other threads
-The poll carries some past aggression from closed threads where a user may vote in opposition to an emotion between one user and another but where the topic is of no concern
All of this to my suggestion....let's all work together on any side pro/for or indifferent to the feature in order to think-tank towards something that fits what ZOS intends as well as offering some convenience and options for all.
Maybe even start with strategic questions to ZOS on ask us anything in order to pave a path to lay ideas and strategy in hopes to move past random comments of why/why not any person may desire or want this feature.
That's the help I can offer.

If the goal is to get a feature request considered
If anyone followed the game pre-2013 and read the companies thoughts when there were conversations around the release of each console and concerns from the console community noted by ZOS such as subs, no voice support, bars full of skills resembling an MMO and not TES and overal players experience in the TES vs XYZ MMO.
That's what this is about...follow the companies info first and then let's discuss here what makes sense overall.

What if we are simply trying to help a minority of players to find peace with just playing the game with way it was designed , just like 99 percent of the actual console player base is doing.
Text chat will not be implemented in the imperial city.
It should not be anywhere ahead of stability for PvP and stability for new content or even new content.
That is the actual topic. So please stay focused on the topic.
Text chat in the imperial city update.
This will never happen.
Cheers.

It wasn't forum feedback on this site.
Please go back and read things like this: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-elder-scrolls-online-everything-you-need-to-know/
This is an overall article non platform specific in which it specifically reads:
Player vs. Environment
Unlike the single player Elder Scrolls games, The Elder Scrolls online will use an MMO style hotbar, but with a twist. The UI will be minimal , with players taking their queues from animations and other in world hints instead of a wall of text. Lead gameplay designer Nick Konkle told us he wants to "Look at the world, not at my hotbar".
In our Elder Scrolls Online combat overview we learnt that abilities will work in a similar fashion to Guild Wars 2. You have six abilities, the first two are based on your weapon, the next three on your class and the final one is an 'ultimate' ability, extremely powerful, but you can only ever use one at once. Any class can use any weapon, so a Mage can carry a sword, and the more people he stabs, the better he'll get at it. The idea is to let you craft your own playing style from a wide range of options.
In our Elder Scrolls Online interview we learnt that the combat will be built around co-operative 'synergy' moves. Player attacks will spark effects that other players can exploit to create a bigger, flashier and more damaging attack.
Despite the MMO trappings, familiar elements from the single player Elder Scrolls games will be present. These include guilds, including the Mages Guild, and birthsigns. Skyrim allows players to switch birthsigns on the fly, and we don't yet know whether The Elder Scrolls Online will go with this system or opt for the previous, chosen-at-character-creation model for assigning bonuses.
There are a lot of articles with really good info that follow the old and yet existing goal this company intends to provide.
Frame these things and ESO live or recorded interviews on this site and continue the discussion with the right frame of mind.
It should be a win-win for all within what ZOS intends. That's the purpose of my involvement

(Not really asking for a reason...as they (Zos-Mods) are more than happy to give the form-letter reply to each and every one...even though they cannot be bothered to ever actually reply to ANY of the threads on the topic.)
We can't start a new Text Thread since this one is still open...even though NOBODY ever actually expected text to be added by the time IC got released.
Can the original poster of this thread either change the name of the thread, or ask that it just gets closed?
And, can ZOS please put a poll on the login screen IN THE GAME asking for player opinions on the top subjects asked about in the forums...including this one?
I am already stopping my subscription to the game due to Zos doing even less than the "bare-minimum" with regards to replying to it's customers.
Now I am just wasting time with ESO until Fallout 4 comes out.
Which makes me very sad.
I love ESO...but ZOS does not seem to.

Don't let one minor feature stop your fun, nobody else is bothered.
Its not that you can't, everyone else is.
Its that you won't. And thats your choice.
IMO, its a mistake to lose out on a great game that you 'love'.
I saw your attempt to start a specific text chat thread and it was shut down and redirected here.
That is as much confirmation as you are going to get that its not going to happen.
Redirectign all the comment s here allows the small number of posters who favor keyboards, to be quietly and easily ignored.
We all see it, ace you must see it now.
Smurf has seen it right from the beginning and has been trying to help turn the sad frustration here into something that meets your needs and fits with the vision of the game.
My advice is just play the game. You already paid for it.
For every hardcore sub that threatens to walk off, there are hundreds of casuals buying skyrim lite.
You may as well play, make some friends and before you know it, you will realise you don't really need text.

From my experience it seems the majority of players on PS4 are playing PVP. Yet the majority of game content is PVE. So are players doing the content as it was designed at that point? Or perhaps are they running the content that is more easily supported by voice chat.
Voice Chat could work similarly in PVE like in PVP if players would congregate in a central location. However because trading is not centralized in a static locale, players don't have a reason to mass in one location. Because of this if a player is looking for players to run PVE content they have to bounce around from one location to the next. Often in areas that have no connection to the content they are looking to run. In no way is this efficient.
If the majority of your time in game is spent in PVP. Clearly you are going to be insulated from seeing issues in PVE.
While Text Chat is not going to be put in with IC. There is no way to say it will never be added at some point. Some players certainly didn't think ESO would go FTP/BTP with a cash shop. Yet it did. Some players said there would never be scrolling combat text and effect trackers in game. Yet ZOS are adding them in at a later date.

No it isn't accurate.
How in the world could you think that a poll drawn from a tiny niche subset of an entire player base would be indicative of anything?
Honestly do you understand polling at all?
This survey might actually be having the opposite effect.
Zos can easily look at the small numbers here in this thread and gauge that when compared to the actual player base on consoles there isn't enough interest.
They might have just went ahead and added it as an artistic move, but this poll is demonstrating for free that the actual interest just isn't there.
I mean in the context of disgruntled forum posters, this issue is a landslide. Hands down.
In the larger more meaningful context of people who bought the game , and felt the need to post in the forums about it, its a drop in the bucket and likely not worth devoting heaps of development revenue to.
I hope this helps you to understand how polls actually work and maybe give you some context outside of your own particular wants for the game.
I want poison alchemy, but that's just a want. I have to be realistic about my personal niche wants and what the actual player base wants.
We all do.
Cheers.

When you try to tell the majority of players their votes dont count and that they are wasting their time asking zos for something they want in the game, you will incite arguements.
Looking at your responses in later posts that seems to be your trend. You in so many words say "the majority's voice doesnt count, zos said no back in beta, nothing else anyone has to say matters, now follow my lead in the discussion"..... That type of dialoge doesnt work and no matter how hard you try this discussion will not go your way. 83% of the community wants text chat, and you cant steer them away from it. So I suggest stop trying.

Text chat will not be implemented in the imperial city.
It should not be anywhere ahead of stability for PvP and stability for new content or even new content.
That is the actual topic. So please stay focused on the topic.
Text chat in the imperial city update.
This will never happen.
Cheers.
Players do congregate for pve dungeons, if you go to the undaunted challenge place, you could get a pick up group in minutes especially since everyone is running the same dailies.
Most of those guys will guild up with you if you even hint at interest.
Glad I could help!
Happy gaming.
You didn't help. I've tried that. I've stated in the past that I have stood outside of the Conclave looking for guilds. It doesn't work. Have you actually tried this, or are you just guessing?

Thats cool and all, but for any of that to be true you literally have to ignore how polls work and you have to ignore what the community is asking for. Also you have to ignore how mmos actually work (talking about feedback from users).
It is evident that you are willfully ignoreing all these facts staring at you in the face. Its rather sad. Im going to share some advice with you as well. When you try to tell the majority of players their votes dont count and that they are wasting their time asking zos for something they want in the game, you will incite arguements.

Your ideas and comments are welcomed and appreciated as well as your opinions.
I'd rather not argue with you or anyone but instead discuss collectively the ideas and or suggestions you may have regarding this feature or other items that will provide opportunity for you and others to feel you can better enjoy this game in the platform of your choice.
After you've watched the two ESO live episodes in my signature please share with us your ideas on this feature.
I honestly would love for someone or anyone to engage with me and others to come up with ideas that ZOS would entertain for an overall better experience for all gamers without aggravating or enraging one or more groups by means of any feature or ideas presented in this thread or others.

Inhavebwatched those episodes and dont see them having much bearing on this dicussion tbh. Like I have stated before in a comment directed to you, that just because zos had said no to the idea back then does not mean they will not add it later. They said no to first person view in the beggining then the community voiced how they wanted first person view in the game.... then they added it.
Text chat is no different. If people want it, they should use these forums to voice their wants and concerns. There is no reason for them to adjust what they are ask for just because you believe they should. This an mmo, and the beauty of an mmo is that things change and the communitys input is important to the developers. So the community should not dumb down their wants, especially when they have shown to change their minds and such matters.
