Never heard that it was confirmed. Although On the ESO live that they announced V16 on they said that veteran ranks being removed was a long term goal and would be raising it to V16 and maybe V18 etc.

The only info we have is that all VR16 sets will be nerfed on release of Orsinium to what ever VR14 sets were one week before Orsinium.

Also new VR18 sets will be what VR16 sets are now and available for only 50,000 mats, 1 million RNG containers and 1000 motif fragments plus a special random material while crafting will be shafted.

Also a new horse will be in the crown store and a new pet.

Expect some stuttering, lag spikes, server crashes, fps drops, longer loading screens and the looking for group tool to still be broken.

This is the ZOS Itemization Process.
    1. Come out with new DLC
    2. Raise level cap so that existing gear is now worthless
    3. Create slightly altered higher level versions of the existing gear but with new exciting names.
    4. Make sure existing gear doesn't drop at the higher levels (check pvp, weekly rewards etc)
    5. Force everyone to grind for new gear, increase the material cost exponentially.
    6. ???
    7. Profit

I'd honestly prefer they revise the information on removing VR levels.
Whichever direction they take will ultimately help the greater good.

I've seen umpteen reasons to keep them, to keep raising them and to remove them. In all areas, good, great, bad and terrible reasons all around.

I think it's been a year and a half since it was shared and lots of leadership changes cause suspicion when we went from Vr10-12, 14 and now 16

@ZOS an update after IC is released on consoles smoothly would be great unless you already have made the decision...if so what better time than after 9/16

VR levels aren't that bad. They keep getting easier and easier and easier to obtain. Now all you basically need to do is clear the main quest line in each zone for silver/gold, the dolmens, delves, and public dungeon and you shouldn't be far off from a VR level. It's even easier to go from 1-16 now than it was 1-14 last week with all of the buffs they did to XP.

New VR levels gives us something to work on and new gear to obtain when new DLC comes out. If that wasn't the case, most people would be too lazy to chase a different set and would be whining and complaining after a week of a dlc's release that there's nothing to do. Welcome to the world of MMO's.

Really though, VR levels aren't bad. I went from 1-14 in about 3 weeks of normal gameplay before IC dropped. Nothing compared to what it used to be.

This is exactly what I've been concerned about. Everyone I play with (including myself) is hard at work on the hamster wheel to grind for the mats and dropped sets (which have silly amounts of RNG...), so it's going to be something awful if the vet cap gets bumped (AGAIN) before the year is up. Every new content ZOS has vehemently insisted that the levels are needed to give players a feeling of reward and progression, so even though I should be excited for Orsinium, I find myself more worried than excited.

When they said "soon", they meant very long, when they said "a long time", they meant they had no plan to do that.

Raising the VR level creates a false sense of new progression. They already did this a couple of times before and they did it big time with the introduction of the Champion System.

    Expect more of it.

Sorry for caps and bold, but it really needs it:

SOLUTION: MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO INCREASE THE LEVEL OF THE ITEMS WITH CRAFTING.
    • SAVES YOU FROM REGRINDING THE SAME GEAR WITH NEW VR LEVELS
    • SMOOTHS THE ECONOMY (2K FOR VR13 ITEM AND 200K FOR THE SAME VR14 ITEM WAS RIDICULOUS)
    • FINALLY MAKES CRAFTING MORE MEANINGFUL

There has been no suggestion nor confirmation of that. It would also be a bad idea, considering all the people who are not buying IC (the only "VR16 content"), if the next DLC increased that even further. A much more logical level for Orsinium to be set at, since everyone is supposed to be scaled to the content level, is Level 50.
    Mitchblue wrote: »

Because of how the itemization system is tied into Veteran Ranks, new and "better" gear requires a higher VR for it to be implemented. Removing VRs will mean a serious overhaul of Veteran itemization, so it is easier to add to the system in the short term to ensure there is always something to work towards while they work on deciding what Veteran content and itemization will be with no Veteran Ranks at all.

Just the thought of this has deterred me from grinding for the new gear. I think if it were announced I would just roll with crafted gear from now on. No use working to get new monster masks, seasonal gear, or whatever if it will only last me 3 months max. I can see this going either way but leaning more towards them raising the cap. I'm not sure why they can't make more new interesting sets without nerfing the old sets.

Some people have different definitions of confirmed. For some, just the fact that they think it might happen is enough to qualify as confirmed.

I don't doubt VR18 is coming, but it ideally won't be with Orsinium/Wrothgar.
