Let it be known you can spam BOL without going OOM. Which is perfectly fine for most content till u hit fights where u need to heal more then 3 targets at once. That being said it shouldnt be questioned as to why BOL spamming is a thing. Its fast, heals for alot, Huge range and can be spammed. so why wouldnt you. If someone is running out of magicka spamming BOL they do not have enough magicka regen or dont heavy attack between casts enough. or like 99% of the time ( for some reason) everyone just eats max magicka food and not recovery. 400+ recovery on food will dictate if you can spam BOL or not. 800Regen vs 1200 regen is a huge difference. So i dont suggest telling someone they SHOULDNT lean on BOL when its perfectly fine to. Also letting people die is immoral as the healer lol. I use no other heals but BOL for Vet dungeons and Ulti if needed otherwise im using warhorn ulti. I stroll right through vet dungeons with ease. even doing city of ash or darkshade caverns ( with no tank) at vr7 on vr12 difficulty. only time someone dies is if they get 1shot which i cannot help. That being said. Perfect fine to do so and frees up alot of skill slots on your bar for entropy/inner light/harness magicka/shards and channeled focused on 1 bar. Simply because i have 1400 regen with food and use heavy attacks i never go oom using bol. Put too many heals on your bar youre just wasting slots. None of the spells have a cooldown so why slot several abilities that can all do the same job when you can slot buffs to increase healing or something else more useful. -shrug- Its not complicated.

If you use heavy attacks between BoL casts you are actually (by definition ?) not spamming it and I made experiences in random groups where you had to spam it by definition...and then you will go 0om.

...but your playstyle maybe is the answer why I had the pleasure to meet such "great" random groups.

As I said, this spoils people, nothing else.

Sometimes the prey turns and nips us... it's a small thing.

So let the snow flakes and unicorns dance alone until they melt or vanish from existence, we will finish up with those smart enough to stay in the glowing circle of love.

So I've been struggling with my Templar healer for the last 10-15 levels and after 5 failed vet dungeons (each with over 6 repeated wipes on the same boss before we all just gave up), I want to try something else. For whatever reason, I have not been able to heal dungeons well, and was even shown up by one of my dps sorcerers with a back up resto staff who was below the dungeon level and never let health drop 30-40%. And I don't think it was an issue with great because I have 5 seducer and 3 magnus pieces equipped.

So I'm looking to get suggestions on what might be a good alternative class to heal with that isn't a Templar. Build and gameplay recommendations are greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!

It may be playstyles or familiarity with the dungeons, but I can say that with random groups and low level VR vet content this may be nothing to do with you.

A bad tank and bad DPS (you find alot of this in group finder in low vet dungeons) can completely ruin a group even with a great healer. Vet dungeons have many things capable of 1shotting DPS (even with proper HP) and even tanks if not blocking or moving out of. You can stack as many healing springs, spam w/e heals you want, but if your teammates dont get out of these things they will die, and can lead quickly to wipes. Same goes for just bad DPS, things dont die quick enough and then it just increases the chances of wipes.

Beyond that, templar healing is said to be the easiest, but other classes mainly miss out on the "oh ***" button heals which are very useful with people who take unnecessary damage. NB healing can be very good, but its a different style of healing and you will be punished more for bad players in your group, but you alos put out alot of DPS while healing so you can help stuff die quicker = less chance of people dieing to things they should be avoiding.

I am a Vet 2 Templar Khajiit Templar healer who did a few vet dungeons, silver and gold. Despite the more action oriented combat mechanics, healing really just the same principles as any other MMO. A few things helped me adjust to ESO healing:

    1) I don't know if you've ever healed in other MMOs before, but you just can't out-heal stupid. If someone is going to stand in the fire over and over again, or insist on kiting mobs outside of your AOE heals even after you remind them to stay closer to them, there's not much you can do. Many of those 'stand in fire' skills exist so the DPS don't mindlessly tunnel and they aren't meant to be forcefully out-healed; the dps has to move. Focus on healing the players who are actually dodging the fire and staying within range of your heals over the outlier DPS who thinks he can tank the boss's hits all by himself 60 yards away.

    2) If your mana is low, spam mana potions. Don't blow your mana on DPS if you know a boss has a phase that will drain a lot of player's health coming up. Also of course, make sure you have food buffs up.

    3) Abuse your Templar Ultimate. It's really good. Again, if you know a boss has a damage phase coming up save it and pop it then. Also don't be afraid to break it off and run if a circle of Bad appears under you. Keeping yourself alive to heal/rez others is arguably even more important than worrying about the DPS in really dire situations.

    4) Instead of allowing the bar to confuse you, just steal a good Templar build that you like.

I don't remember what's on my bar off the top of my head (and am still an ESO novice in general) but I know my toolkit's base skills:

1 direct heal, 1 HoT, 2 AoE HoTs, and a buff/damage reducer. If I keep the buff and HoTs up and place the AOE circles down correctly, then I'm spamming my direct heal a lot less and am therefore conserving mana.

I have started a NB healer, but have yet to do a dungeon though. I'm hoping that I can experience the "other side" of the healing spectrum to figure out if healing is for me at all.

Tanking on my Khajiit Templar has been rough so far, even though I haven't done a vet dungeon yet. However, I don't have a lot of the more helpful non-class tanking abilities yet. I don't have much issue with surviving and I can see that getting stronger as I advance further into the 1 hand and shield line. I do notice the lack of CC even more though and its a grievance that carries over from healing. The role feels incredibly weird to me because of the lack of situational awareness that comes with the healing role standing at the edge of the fight rather than in the thick of it.

Overall, I think tanking will get a little boring for me on my Templar because of the lack of CC and my preference for healing. But I'm going to at least hang onto this Templar until I know for sure if NB healing is the role for me.
