I don't care what you think or who told you otherwise in your design team. These heavy attack-reliant effects are not good for your PvP environment, and I hardly expect people to use them in PvE since they cause dps to drop sharply.

Because this is how the devs envisioned PvP and it is the only way it will support 200+ players in the same area at once

so I guess you never got hit in pvp by 20k with a heavy attack bow, even though using 5 heavy armor...

Yep, heavy attacks make a normally fast and exciting and dynamic combat... LAME-O. Until last week and a similar thread I honestly thought I was the only one frustrated by having to do heavy attacks :p

If they actually took the time to make them useful, I wouldn't have a problem with it. As it stands now the animation for light and heavy attacks are way to slow to not use animation weaving especially in Melee. Speeding them up, making them chain together more fluidly, adding meaningful effects, maybe taking a page out of DAoC, AoC, DCUo combat book and making a reactionary/combo system that worked along side their skill system would be a great start allowing them to do meaningful damage if not.

Hell I would even support a buffed light and heavy attack combat system if it allowed you to cast skills with an extra effect or at no cost. A few examples:

Ha-La-La-La-Ha-Uppercut- Using this combo boosts your damage by building momentum in your swings and allowing you to cast uppercut instantly.

La-La-La-Ha-Cleave- Using this combo makes cleave a 360 degree aoe as you flourish the blade behind your back to the front.

Anyways I think this would be a better system then tacking on useless buffs to set bonuses that aren't even worth the DPS lost to trigger their effects. It is going to take a lot more work then crap buffs on set bonuses and a crappy resource heal to get the majority to use basic attacks over skills. I think they could do it and should probably even do some research like a pole or something with a few suggestion on making basic attacks more useful and see where people want to go with it.

The only way anyone with even 5 minutes PvP experience (or Trial experience) is going to use fully charged (wait for it....waaaiiit for it...) heavy attacks is to at least double the bonuses on offer and halve the cast time of heavy attacks. It's already so risky using them (you ain't blocking and heavy attacking now are you...) there has to be a bigger payoff and a shorter window of vulnerability.

Not entirely true. Atleast in PvE Heavy Attacks can be awesome.

The second and the third thing in this Parse (Serpent HM) are from the Dualwield Heavy Attack. Yes, I charge fully.

That being said, my main problem is such a technique is impractical a competitive PvP environment without numerical superiority.

here you go, all you need is a bow combined with heavy attacks and you will destroy ppl.

I played all stamina classes in pvp now, and DK with Heavy attacks is the EASIEST to kill loads of people.
Also I am pretty sure this will work next patch, only lower dmg but still sweet.

Ehh. Put down the bow and grab some swords. Weaved in bow heavy attacks are the only heavies that show up in my death recap; I don't deny that particular tactic is effective.

Thank you op. Nobody actually wants to do heavy attacks, but people tell others to do it ALL OF THE TIME.

Nobody cares about heavy attacks. Nobody wants to charge up for 2 seconds in order to get a minimal amount of resources or nominal set bonus proc.

It's beyond me, why they made this massive change to heavy attacks in 1.6.
Increased the charge time by 50% and gave fix values to the restored amount of ressources. PLUS it was a ninja nerf, nothing of that was mentioned in the patchnotes.

At least 1 of both needs to be reverted. Preferable decreasing the cast time by 50%.

IMHO light attacks and heavy attacks should swing faster; in their current form, melee attackers won't use them much, despite all the incentives in the new sets to use them more. They are cool though at range.
