Some addons are great but you can go overboard very quickly where your screen is just a wall of text and other random junk. I switched to console at ps4 launch and the one thing I truly miss is text chat. The other stuff I can play without

no joke... sometimes I'm busy healing the group and suddenly notice my own health bar only has a hair left. DOH!

I can see the addon attraction.

I agree, and as a healer myself I find it very difficult staring at the default health bars on the top left of my TV screen while still trying to break free/move from stuns and AOE's.

I have quite a few add on's though most are not on the screen most of the time but I like the "Ultimate is ready, potion is ready." Plus of course the buffs/debuffs. And the better UI.

I doubt if I could keep up with all the information on the screen that some people have, so it would be a waste to me to have it.

I try to run a minimal amount of addons. I turn off most of Advanced UI when playing, unless I am trying a new rotation or something. Most of my addons are related to commerce, crafting support and inventory. Although I still don't have a bank manager addon as of yet, I do all that manually.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Likes addon's & use them. Think how much different this game would be if they were not allowed in trials, public dungeons & pvp.

Many good inventory and crafting add on's. I don't have a bank one either. Loot add on's are also nice.

As a player who no longer plays on the Mac/PC version of the game, but the console version. I agree entirely with what you all have posted. It's significantly more challenging and requires being more alert, than saying playing on the Mac/PC version. Being as you have to be aware of not only: What's around you, what's going on directly, and things like your health, magicka, and stamina. Where as on Mac/PC, you have add-ons, which give you notifications of when certain things are available, and or ready. As for the text chat missing, that is a significant issue that I have with the console version. But hopefully, a text chat will be implemented in the Imperial City update for us. As I personally would prefer that over a voice chat any day.

There's lots of add on's that have nothing to do with combat. For me, they really make the game better. I go to a crafting table and bam, I can see my writ that I need to get done. Or a list of recipes I have and don't have. It's freakin' awesome.

Exactly. 99% of mine are not related to combat.

And when I was on the PS4, not knowing how much damage I was doing or the health of mobs - I hated it. But like Pharidon mentions, it's all the other add on's that make it great.

Addons can reduce the game a lot to just a bunch of numbers and similar, telling you when and why to do things so you don't have to think for yourself. They're not needed, I'd suggest staying well clear of them. The grass is definitely not greener.

Never played the PC or Mac versions so I can't give a non bias reply. Just from the videos I've watched the PC/Mac version does look easier to maintain. The obvious mouse and keyboard aside the add-on apps are numerous! Some of which I wouldn't mind having on console versions lol.

It was stated above, but you really need to know your class, and abilities on consoles.

Some sort of lore book add-on should be added to consoles. Not too fussed about the shard map as I've managed to find all but one in the first 3 areas on my own thus far and I'm in the 4th area in the AD pact now. There's a large and obvious beam of light ffs. I fail to see how people can miss a large number of these things unless they just stay on the roads and only go off trail to take short cuts. So many times I've seen people run past them in caves. As for lore books, I have absolutely no idea how many I've missed in each area and where the rest are located.

I've always been fine without add-ons. The only ones I use are the Skyshard and lorebook maps (but those haven't been updated since last year). But yes I do find the base game on the console very clean and usable.

It could use a few improvements, but most of them do not pertain to combat. Like a search bar in guild kiosks, better inventory management, text chat for consoles etc.

I only use 2 addons: Skyshards and Lorebooks. They just add little icons on the map where you can find them. They're configurable so they'll hide when you've already found one. I don't use anything else because it's just screen clutter. I can see the interest behind the damage log (the small text box size one and not the massive one in front of your face written in early 90s word art). It'd be advantageous to know how hard you're hitting, or getting hit for, so you can determine what is working properly and what isn't.

This game in particular and addons is what convinced me I will never play console again. Even Skyrim looks as pretty as ESO with addons(ignoring the adult themed/game changing ones).

To each their own, I just wish there were better UI options already in the game so we weren't forced to rely on addons to customize our game.
Edited by Psychobunni on August 22, 2015 3:04AM
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Agree. I started ESO on console, lasted three weeks. 2 weeks later I bought the PC game.. As much as I hate a double purchase it's been a whole new game for me.. Fun.
