They don't need a buff, they just need to be usable in tandem with food then all is well...

Would make provisioning a truly useful master craft at that point and worth tracking down all the recipes and mats

That change alone, let alone any other things that have changed in the meantime, means that any results of the poll are going to be invalid, because who knows whether any of the people who voted over a year ago would vote differently today with the system so different.

    OK, 2 things here:
    1. The search function is great, as long as the thread it brings up isn't old enough to no longer be relevant
    2. The guy who necro'd this thread knew it was a necro that was over a year old (he commented on that in his post), it's the subsequent posters who obviously didn't notice that and were posting and voting in the poll as if this particular poll was still valid

Not sure why you think the OP is no longer relevant. Seems relevant now as it did then.

It's merely polling people's opinions on the matter. Other posters brought up the ideas of soft caps.

The guy who necro'd this thread also felt that this thread was still relevant.

This thread is still valid, and just saying it's invalid doesn't really make it so in an open forum. There is a report function, and if you truly feel this is an invalid discussion, then feel free to use it.

Food/drink stacking was something they suggested from the beginning of the revision, something most people liked, and the one thing from their list they decided not to do.

Somewhere, there's a forum bard singing, 'that was the day positive feedback died.'

Yes I know this is a necro (was a necro)

    Don't care.

Young people nowadays - no stamina.

Anyway I go back and forth between food or drink depending on how things are going. I tend more toward food at higher levels (the 1-shotting is worse) but it's a trend not a certainty.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I can't vote because there's no "Depends on the situation" option.

If I'm in a group, I'll sooner use drink buffs before food buffs. Especially if there's a rather good healer in the group.

Similar point for me..... it Depends.

It Depends on what build I am currently using....
    1. What gear I have on, and their set bonuses.
    2. What enchants I have on my gear and weapons.
    3. If I am in PvP or PvE

It's no longer valid because people voted on it based on a system that has fundamentally changed in the intervening year+, and some (impossible to know how many) of those votes over a year ago were based on game mechanics that no longer exist (such as soft caps to regeneration) - some of which were specifically changed by ZOS in order to make drinks more attractive. A brand new poll on the topic would be relevant. If everyone who voted on this poll over a year ago was able to go back and edit their votes based on the differences in gameplay it would be relevant.

As it is, this thread is effectively combining the results of 2 different questions. It's a little like if you were to ask a bunch of lenders in the early 1980s (when mortgage rates were 17-18%) if they thought rates would go up or down in the next 5 years, and then asking the same question today, and combining the results of the 2 polls to try to come up with a picture of which way it's going now. It's fundamentally flawed.

Not so much because of the question, though, but because of recency bias.

But food is always going to win this poll, even if drink were more competitive. Because you don't immediately see the effects of a drink the way you see the size of your bars increase when you eat food. For most people, that visual cue is enough to make food feel more satisfying than drink.

So basically they'll never be seen as equals and they should just stack already.

I use drink's at the moment, im a stam nb. I have so much weapon damage as it is, if i didn't use the drink i would have to wait an eternity to regen my resource's after a successful gank.

I use food time to time to experiment with damage but i always end up needing more recovery to re-engage.

    You're sure stopping it.

I think the results are pretty much the same today as they were before. Do you prefer the food buffs for bonus damage and such, or do you prefer the drink buffs for sustainability?

As for the exact numbers, I don't find them relevant to a simple question, regardless of mechanic changes. You would think that more people would've voted drink, because of the original soft-cap mechanic, as boosting the actual stat pools were a lot easier to do with gear and enchantments, while the regen was harder to get up as it was limited to some skills or set bonuses.

When I have found drink useful was with a group that wanted to run through dungeons as fast as they could go. Fast recovery matters there. Otherwise, as the math shows, food of an equivalent level works out better for the length of time we will be in combat.

That was sad... but I do remember. We only get 3 jewelry slots, while we get 7 armor slots. Of course it is easier to get more max stats, vs. regen.

I vaguely remember testing it after a certain update but it didn't work, and still doesn't. That's really too bad.

Back before 1.6, they were testing the idea of allowing both food and drink buffs at the same time. I don't remember that ever making it to the PTS, and it got scrapped before going to live. Instead, they buffed the regen rate on the drinks substantially.

when i made this topic, it was pretty much food for every purpose..

atm tho its Drink for Healers and tanks, Food for DPS..

    with some exceptions of course.

in fact PvP sees Drinks being almost universally better for most uses save for Sorcs who want to max out their shields.
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.
