Drinks or Food?

What buff do you prefer and why?

As i see it, Food is universally better, since with multi stat boosting food you not only get the damage boost, but some extra HP to survive bigger hits. Drinks in my eyes dont give enough returns to be useful, particuarlly since HP regeneration is so low anyways.

    Level 1-50: Drinks.
    VR1-12: Food.

By the time I hit VR, I found that I was overcharged (or right on the cusp) on my recharge stats, so food became more valuable. Up to that point, recharge is almost always more valuable.

Food, most fight won't be long enough for drink to make sense.

Definitely food for me... through all levels. Few fights are long enough to warrant drinks being all that useful.

Difference between a 40 mana recovery and a 48 mana recovery.... is only 8 mana every 2 seconds. A typical spell costs 140 magicka at that level, which takes 18-20 seconds to achieve with that bonus to recovery.

How many fights truly last that long? Might as well eat the food and get the full 140 bonus right from the get go.

    This.

Take food bonus, and divide it by halved (because regen ticks once every 2 seconds) drink bonus. That is how many seconds the fight needs to last for the drink to give more stat than the food.

For example, 300 magicka from food, vs 10 magicka regen from drink:

    300/(10/2) = 60.

So in this particular case, the fight would have to last a full minute for the drink to overcome the food benefit(and this does not even take into account the damage bonus food gives).

In a long keep siege where you spend long periods of time in-combat, or in a long boss fight, i can imagine choosing drink(maybe). Other than that, food.

Foods I can self-find but not drinks. I know it is a shallow opinion but that's what it is so far...

As many others pointed out, it makes more mathematical sense to use food. The higher end food will also buff multiple stats making it even more useful.

Personally, I think in order to make drinks viable they (Zenimax) should either allow drinks and food to be used simultaneously > Buff Drinks > Nerf food.

Food 1-50 but mainly for main story boss fights.

I don't use either for VR as nothing I play requires it. If I was PvPing or group dungeon crawling, perhaps something that included stamina recovery (I am primarily magicka), as my other 2 recoveries are at soft-cap.

You're going to exceed the softcap on regen without drinks, so they are currently useless. Food is by far superior.

ESO's take on provisioning buffs is confounding. How hard is it to simply allow all players to utilize both a food and drink buff?

I can't vote because there's no "Depends on the situation" option.

If I'm in a group, I'll sooner use drink buffs before food buffs. Especially if there's a rather good healer in the group.

Nope. It isn't good to dilute food your stomach is trying to digest.

Drinking prior to or after is the way to go :p

    45-2..

And people were saying there is no need to give drinks any kind of buff..

i made a topic about a simple buff to drinks drinks-need-a-buff-and-i-have-the-perfect-one-in-mind and so far most have flat out rejected the idea..

if you feel that drinks need a buff feel free to post there. if not, then the opinion would still be welcome.

I really hate that most of the lootable containers are full of drink mats. I just searched half of Auridon to find a potato for a writ. I finally found one on a dinner table in Mathieson. Had I not been able to make the Rye drink I could have stolen some from half a dozen kegs and had what I needed for the writ. That is just stupid, ya know?

You do realize you can buy potatoes from certain grocers right? Cicero's in Coldharbour.

I actually thought my game was bugged the first time I noticed that using a drink took away the benefits from the food I had eaten.

Since pools = resource + damage bonus...almost alwasy food.

If pools were only pools and didn't equal a damage/heal bonus there would be a lot more leeway.

Food has 2 effects, drink only 1

Um guys, this is a necro'd thread that is over a year old. In the time since then the system has been changed so that there are no longer softcaps. That change alone, let alone any other things that have changed in the meantime, means that any results of the poll are going to be invalid, because who knows whether any of the people who voted over a year ago would vote differently today with the system so different.

i use drink almost exclusively. my reasoning is this: for me - pop a food buff and i end not being able to recover it all quickly enough. pop a drink buff and i have extra recovery even if it's only for an unbuffed amount. i find this to be slightly better for me, particularly in delves etc.. i run a drink buff constantly so i get a "permenant" recovery buff, essentially.

but soon we get to stack one of each, so this poll will end up redundant ;)
