I really don't know where you get that from my post. I never complained about anyone being rude or anything. Although hearing someone playing rap so loud the entire area hears it always gives me the urge to put on some very loud Dream Theater so that they hear what music really is...
Wanting to play with a guild has nothing to do with not wanting to play with other people. I meet people everyday and my friend list is always getting bigger. Wanting to play with a guild is more axed towards: I need to farm crypt of hearts and city of ash veteran on VR12+ to get some pieces of gear, and don't want to lose my time with a tank wearing full medium armor, a healer who can't stay out of red circles or a DPS who did not spend the required time to get some gear that fits his role or level.
I play with my friends because I know them. I know they won't rage quit after a few wipes. I know they know their jobs because I have seen them play. No,
If you are willing to cherry pick your typed ignores in text chat, you could do the same exact thing in voice chat.
Or leave voice area chat and just listen to your group or guild.
Ignoring people on an ala carte basis can already be done in voice chat so why waste all that dev revenue just so you can type ignore rather than press the ignore option?
What ignore option? You mean the one of the console? The one limited to what, 30 people? The one that could for some people be aleready full when they start playing ESO? Nah, really, an mmo needs an ingame unlimited ignore feature.
About Battlefield, you seem to not understand the difference between an mmo and a shooter, and even less the difference between "middle of action" and "standing in town". Of course comms in a shooter need to be in real time, and it's the same in dungeons, as to why I would never say to remove the voice chat, as bad as it can be, it's still very useful. This isn't a game where you have a 15 minute game, and then you start another, with all different people for another 15 min, and so on.
Money put in good communication is money well spent. It's money that will ensure longevity, it will ensure that players will stay longer, as we can all see that most, if not all, reviews about the game state the communications as a flaw. Also, the devs who are working on UI are not the same team who are working on your new content, they're different teams, just like how the graphic designs team is not the same as the combat mechanics team. And so the time spent on making text a possibility will not delay the coming of expansions, because it can be done in parallel. The money they would pay to UI devs is all going to be returned by players coming back or staying longer than they do now.
Another thing, why would I want to leave area chat? It's the only way to know what's going on outside my group. If I leave it, I don't see, and it's aleready bad that it's not covering the whole area, but it wouldn't work, waaaaay too many people who would start talking over each other, like it is aleready teh case in populated towns, but worse. With text, it's not a problem, because everything is clear, you have the name of the guy, and what he said, not a mix of 10 voices which you must then try to figure out which of the 4 names on your screen goes with which voice...
Don't you see the numbers decreasing every day? Don't you have ghost guilds since more than 50% of the players left? Well I have 4 of them, and that's because my 5th one is brand new, otherwise I'm sure they would all be like this.
Your solution for not hearing annoying people is cutting all communication outside the group... How am I supposed to think you are not trolling when you say stuff like that? I've stated it a lot of times, and I keep doing it, communication the THE most important thing in an mmo. I have no intention of cutting any communication. In fact I want more, I want to be able to see proximity chat, area wide chat, guild chat and party chat ALL AT THE SAME TIME so I can pick the discussion I'm part of or participate in 2 or 3 different conversations at the same time. Talking to group chat but knowing when people on guild prepare a raid, or if someone wants to buy something I own in a guild where I don't normally chat since it's just there to sell and buy stuff.
This is all basic, in every mmo. Some even go larger than that and have region chat, covering 3-4 areas. It has only benefits. The only Cons you can come up with are the spam and the time it takes to type, which are non-issues because when you use text, it's normally while you have time to do it. I would give everything to have quiet towns with just a list of text in the corner of my screen, which I can scroll and find only the info that interests me and skip what doesn't... Right now if someone "spams" voice chat, I hear him again and again, if it's just a line of text I end up not seeing it anymore because I don't pay attention to reapeated lines if they're not what I'm looking for. The guy reapeating in my ears though, prevents me from clearly hearing what others would say that would really interest me.

See here, even though player2 really wants to sell his motif, you can clearly follow all 5 converations without a fuss. It's also very easy not to pay attention to player2's message, since it repeats so much that you can easily filter it out with your eyes. Now if everyone was talking instead, this could become very messy... Also i'm sure more people would see this text than people who would hear it, since most people just turn off area voice chat the minute they log on.

Starlightz85 wrote: »I've been playing about a month now, but haven't touched the game in days since one particular thing made me lose all desire to play. It was a horrible experience that made me realize this is the most inferior MMO on the market where getting a dungeon group together is concerned. My hope is that there is something I overlooked.
Basically I went to do my first group dungeon after reaching level 12. I went to group finder and it put me in queue. After queue was done I get paired with 3 other players. Here are where the issues begin:
I expected us to be taken to the dungeon and a healer to be in the party. So after the queue, I see a message that the party leader must queue us for a dungeon. Okay, so we waited and waited and nothing. After about 3 minutes I get a teleport notice asking me if I want to be taken to where party leader is. It takes me to Vulkul Guard. Now I can see the life bars of all party members in top left. To my confusion and bewilderment it showed our PSN IDs and not our character names. Seriously?? That makes no sense and breaks immersion. I hate my PSN name and would change it if Sony provided that option. Every MMO I have ever played, even on console, shows your character name, not your PSN ID, Curse ID, or whatever other ID that is not character name. The issues get worse. After being teleported to same place as party leader, I'm standing there for at least 5 minutes waiting for party leader to queue us up, then all of a sudden one of the other non-leader party members says on mic "Are you guys coming?" I'm confused not understanding what he is saying because we are here and just waiting on leader. I don't have a mic to reply to him. Then after a few more minutes of waiting I check map and see that one of us is at the dungeon location. That's when I discover you have to manually go to the dungeon and that there's a free teleport option. If so then why in the world did it say party leader has to queue us for dungeon if we have to walk there manually. That's not queuing, that's going there and entering like you would any solo dungeon. So myself and one other member are now in the dungeon and we end up waiting a good 15 minutes before the others figure out what I figured out about having to travel to dungeon. Eventually once we're all there, it turns out no one is a healer. After making it to first boss, one person left, and we went outside the dungeon to try and find a healer. But lo and behold there is no in-game text chat to shout for a healer, so LFM healer is out of the question. You have to hope a person standing near the dungeon happens to be a healer and invite them. After inviting someone it turns out they are not a healer. So we tried advancing without one, but could not beat the first boss. We came close on one attempt. We had to leave and repair twice and a few of us decided to abandon because the repair costs were crazy. Just 2 or 3 attempts of the boss and gear is already halfway down in durability. The whole thing was a nightmare and an hour wasted. I haven't touched the game since. If there's a way to solve this issue, I'll continue playing. Otherwise I'll be moving on.
Is there a way to display character name instead of PSN ID? What does it show for computer players?
Is there a way to find a healer besides hoping one just happens to be standing around outside of a dungeon?

It is what it is
Well it's not like they can't add it or don't know how too.
At some point down the road, regardless of what any one says,
a more efficient tool/way for communicating will have to be implemented. This is a no brainer.
What works for those now, may not and surely doesn't work for everyone.
Which cripples this mmos potential and future on consoles.
If you have X amount of players and only Y amount can fully utilize the game, you'll lose popularity very fast, due to lack of knowledge, community, and a lot more.
It's pretty simple to understand.
I mean, ZOS added some of the worst emotes Ive ever seen in mmos, period. None of them are very effective, other than yes or no. ZOS can't even add custom emotes? Come on, that's ridiculous.
They must update this and they must add easier ways to group up without waiting for guildies and they must add a better way of communicating trade, sales, invites and more, instead of having to spam the voice channel to get what you want.
Anyone who disagrees with me here is either stubborn, in denial or just trolling.
If you can honestly say that ESO on consoles does everything correctly in terms of setting up groups, dungeons, trades, sales, guild chat, then you are seriously misinformed on the true potential certain additions can bring to the game.

It is what it is
No word should be taken for cash - MMORPG 101
If you have played any MMORPG in your life you should know that decision changing has been part of them since the very beginning. The fact that they stated that If text would be coming to consoles , it would most likely not be on the form of a chat box, shouldn't come to you as "It will never come ". The only way to make an mmo change their mind is by explaining them where they made a mistake. That is what we do here.
You and mrskinskull are advocating very hard against this and I respect your opinions, but it won't change the fact that a huge number of players left the game because there is no text chat and that is very bad for a mmo company. When you lose that many people after only 2 months of live, there is something wrong with your game. And when you look at the reviews, you can clearly see that the common flaw depicted in those reviews is the lack of text chat.
I'm (again) goingto talk about Naoki Yoshida who took a mmorpg and litterally remade it from scratch, even taking it offline for a whole year, with the result being a monstroussuccess, because the second version of FFXIV got a lot more popularity than the first one.
Don't take everything the devs say in ESO Live Episodes for gospel. There is things that will be said at one point and there is decisions that will change after they stated things. That is how MMORPGs work. They go live, and they evolve following player feedback. An MMORPG's beta is not like any other game's beta. inmost games, a beta will be the major test and repair phase. In a MMORPG, the beta is more about finding critical bugs and checking server stability. The normal "beta" of an MMORPG is the live game itself. Player feedback is followed all the time and decisions change all the time.
When you keep saying "they said it wouldn't come", all you do is show how you hope that they stick with their decision, and when we explain why their decision was bad, it is in order to make them change it. It can happen, and I'm sure it will. Will it come with IC? Definitely not. Will it come one day? Only time will tell.
As for the integrated systems on console, they are far from what is needed in a mmorpg. The console chat will not cover area, guild or group, it will only include the people you invited. Personally I don't use ignore features unless it's for gold spammers. I may have enough with the PS4 list, but in the end, an mmorpg should have one integrated.
Making a game on 3 different platforms means that you need to have the systems integrated so that all 3 versions are identical. If you're not making the versions identical, don't put the same name on the box, simple as that. It's false when you say that the devswanted to make "a different game" for console. They made the same game, but some stuck up guy thought that having a keyboard on his lap instead of on a desk was uncomfortable. (If it was just me, that guy would've aleready been fired but that's not up to me).
Also, I know the PC has text chat, but if you want me to go to PC so I stop complaining about lack of text chat, you'll just have to buy me a new PC because the one I'm using theese days will not run ESO. I game on console because console is media made to play video games, not because it has headset support. PC has headset support too. I hate having a headset all the time when I game, but unfortunately, ESO doesn't leave me any choice, I need it if I want any communication at all, so I have that annoying thing on my head all the time.
To everyone in favor of text chat: We need to keep going if we want things to change. They can change, don't let others shut you up. Things change in the world when population rise their voices. Thanks to democracy.
Yes text chat should come to consoles, but to demand it at this point, in the next update is unreasonable due to building & cert process. I think the goal should be the end of the year, at most.

Ya to hell with the people who are disabled and cant use the current system huh?
Ive served and have major hearing loss due to multiple IED attacks. So the voice chat really doesnt work for me and others with similar disabilities.

Playing on console s may be tough if you require text.
Text is simply not as popular with the console crowd as it is with the keyboard cowboys of the PC..
I would like to see you stay here on console, but through the favoring of a keyboard as an input device on PC, more games accommodate.
On console, mics and controllers are the mass market, and companies lose revenue when trying to implement a peripheral for a niche audience.
I really don't know why console game developers don't bother more with niche peripheral programing.
I mean everything was better with kinect, right? What all those smash hits the PlayStation move had?
Then their was that much game that came with a 200 *** controller, everyone bought that thing, huh?
I know many people play on PC so much they cant think of a keyboard in the same bargain bin as a kinect, but if a console product doesn't hit the mass market, I wouldn't hold out hope for kinect support.
Cheers.

Sorry buddy, gonna have to disagree. it's not that tough to plug in a usb keyboard. I played ffxiv for over a year

Trying to add in another window and also require another peripherial isn't a logical approach when nothing is wrong with what exists.

Nothing is wrong with what exists, except the fact that it doesnt work. There is no voice zone chat, and can not monitor and participate in multiple conversations simultaneously.

I respect your opinions of what you desire but I'm only saying what exists for communication is not a problem.
We can talk to people near us, in groups and in guilds.
We can send msgs on console and mail
Having multiple conversations over a widespread area isn't realistic and logical to me which is why I left PC for Xbox (one reason I left "text chat and what it does to games).
You can use guild voice chat tho so 100ppl is a lot and isn't bound by distance or factions and that offers what you describe. It's just different for ppl use to a PC way of gaming on a MMO.
You're desiring more...that's fine but what exists isn't a problem or issue.

And you paid a sub because, you were a tiny slice of the overall gaming market. You paid more because the mass market didn't what your taste.

No it's not. I've been gaming on Pc and console for 20 years now. Have you even played ESO? It doesn't seem like it. Have you ever been in a populated area and tried to communicate? Have you ever been in a full 500 man guild with 20 people all carrying on separate conversations? Text chat is far superior hands down. The only time voice chat is necessary is in a group dungeon. By the way, isn't a mic a peripheral?

Sorry, auto correct really ended that strangely. I corrected the original.
You paid more in the form of a subscription.
Niche gaming style = less people to charge = the company has to charge the niche group more for the same service.
Text chat inches this game closer to that unsalable niche game style that destiny tried so hard to distance itself from.
