I love to leave area chat on and wander by the discussions.

Character build discussions, sales of items etc. Sometimes people will have questions, or need a hand with something and I just help out. The best part about area chat is that I don't always get to help before someone else offers.

I agree, helping the random people is fun. When I have time to lose I like to answer the questions I can. But then again, you can do the very same thing with text.

If you are the kind of person who can't tolerate other people being randomly rude or antagonizing, how would it be different with text chat?

People with soft skin would just have to turn two things off at the start of each game session.

I really don't know where you get that from my post. I never complained about anyone being rude or anything. Although hearing someone playing rap so loud the entire area hears it always gives me the urge to put on some very loud Dream Theater so that they hear what music really is...

Wanting to play with a guild has nothing to do with not wanting to play with other people. I meet people everyday and my friend list is always getting bigger. Wanting to play with a guild is more axed towards: I need to farm crypt of hearts and city of ash veteran on VR12+ to get some pieces of gear, and don't want to lose my time with a tank wearing full medium armor, a healer who can't stay out of red circles or a DPS who did not spend the required time to get some gear that fits his role or level.

I play with my friends because I know them. I know they won't rage quit after a few wipes. I know they know their jobs because I have seen them play. The hard instances require skill and cooperation, as well as gear. When I play with my friends, I know that they have what it takes, if I take a random group, I have no idea. Maybe they will be very good, maybe not.

As to how text chat would make it diferent about rude or antagonizing people, /ignore. I prefer by far having a line of text coming every 10 seconds that I can ignore, than having a guy repeat in my ear every 10 seconds, which I can't ignore. Gold spammers, I would add to ignore list so I know I wouldn't have to deal with them again.

I think you replied without even reading the post I made, because seriously, the first time I read your reply, if it wasn't about the battlefield reference, I would've thought you replied to the wrong person...

I have people who try to send me text messages in battlefield. Text is too slow and ends up aggravating the rest of the voice chat using team. I know the same thing will happen in dungeons or PvP here.

    No,

If you are willing to cherry pick your typed ignores in text chat, you could do the same exact thing in voice chat.

Or leave voice area chat and just listen to your group or guild.

Ignoring people on an ala carte basis can already be done in voice chat so why waste all that dev revenue just so you can type ignore rather than press the ignore option?

What if you need to ignore both area chat and guild chat because there is one person on each channel blaring inaudible music like they're something? Then you won't have comms with anyone at all. Happens almost everyday on my end.

You seem to take the wrong approach. If it's a few ppl, mute them in chat. Prob solved.

If you have guild members who you don't have a relationship with enough to ask them to change their behaviors then you would want to develop a relationship OR leave the guild.

There should always be an option to mute annoying sounds and people without leaving a guild or cutting off comunication completly with the person or the entire guild/zone.

This is why text chat is needed. Voice only is not efficient.

There is already a way to mute individual players. It takes maybe 2-3 secs in-game using the option on Xbox one.
If PS4 doesn't allow you to mute voice using their PSN build into to the game then your issue is with Sony.

To be sure...hit menu...triangle...right bumper and (in recent voice interactions) select the name, go to their PSN page and mute

It sounds to me like your console designer needs to hear your feedback

Let me explain this to you again...

The game needs a way to mute annoying sounds without cutting of communication with the person or persons completely.
For example, I mute someone because of feedback of their mike, they are playing music or anyother reason BUT i can still communicate with them in text chat.

....this issue isnt a design flaw in the console... its a flaw with the developers of this game.

Please pay better attention to my responses, I am getting tired of having to go over things with you.

    You're skim reading....
The console itself does the function that you're asking ZOS to add in (already)
You need to use the console in respects to what is allows.

IF the PS4 doesn't allow this then that's a Sony issue and not a valid reason for ZOS to add text chat as a feature.
I do believe that the PS4 allows you to mute by player. I'm not sure if you need to leave the game to do so.

*There is no need to repeat yourself...just read what Im writing and do it in the game. You are trying to add in another function that doesn't exist. There is not text chat so mute voice...keep playing.

Also, if they are annoying you by doing whatever via voice chat, then you can still msg them on console, etc just not chat. I'd suggest lowering your in-game voice volume and not muting ppl if its so important to just not hear them.

    Again...this is a YOU thing

    You missed the point...again....

Your arguments get so tiresome, please take the time and read what people are actually talking about in this thread. Someone should never have to close an mmo just to message someone inside the mmo....

And as Soul of Odi pointed out....With your logic there should be no in game communication for console or pc players because our operating systems have built in features that can do that. Its unrealistic and illogical to do something like that. No lasting mmo has ever done that, and there is a goodbreason why text chat is being requested so often by many people on and off these forums.... its because people want to communicate with eachother and the current systems in place arent getting the job done.

Its not that I'm not reading your comments.
In some cases I'm intentionally not commenting on certain things as its not an argument, but rather a discussion (or at least that is what should be going on)

While some of my comments are from my point of view, that comment is what seems to be a lack of understanding from the user who feels that my comment is inserting my opinion vs stating what is based on decisions made outside of my perspective or opinion.

As I've shared many times, your opinions of why a feature should be present are fine to make but no one who decides on adding such a feature is asking any of us why it should or should not exist.

The info we have is specifically from ZOS why such a feature was scrapped early on during development. A few people including yourself have expressed that its not acceptable. OK...now what....

People are able to communicate on the game in the same way they communicate on other online console games. That is via voice chat. Some games offer alternatives while others do not but no one is limited from using text chat while playing on console, they are only limited to having text chat on the screen within this game.

So...in conclusion...both the Xbox One and PS4 offer text chat for 100% of the games on the consoles.
ZOS didn't create a game that makes anyone use voice chat, they made a game that fully supports each consoles ecosystem for communication.

You guys want a PC based feature that is in place on PC in part due to limitations by platform, absence of a centralized network and locale. Some other limitations may include technology but that's a completely different situation than what many of you are arguing.

You can text chat on PS4 and Xbox One while playing TESO:TU
On xbox one, its also on the screen, on smartglass and on a PC if you're running the app and the game over Win 10

Largely....my opinion about all of this is....
You and many others want a PC experience on a console. That is not what ZOS intends to provide right now.

You pretend text chat is a pc thing, BUT there are other console games with text chat... Battlefield, Neverwinter, Rocket League, DCUO, Everquest.....

People are asking for text chat... because once again I have to explain this to you... voice chat and the built in text features are not effcient for a game like eso.... and once again just to be clear text chat is not a pc exclusive feature....

And once again.... as Soul of Odic pointed out, your logic dictates that eso and every single gane on console should have been launched with no built in communication, because the platform has those features built in.

That is nonsense andnwill only hurt this game.

So again please pay better attention to the topic of this thread, constantly repeating myself and explaining things to you is getting very tiresome.

Again....you ignore the tone and topic of this thread.

The guy no longer works at the company...

Why are all these things haveing to be explained to you like 5 or 6 times?

Are you up to speed with what is and what isn't and why it is?
-basically are you clear that ZOS' intent for console was to utilize the social aspects built into each console and not to develop duplication or cause confusion over what should be use vs what the console offers.

What exists is based on the console manufacturer and their ideas on how their customers should enjoy gaming.
ZOS is respecting Sony and Microsoft so that their game is not limited by ZOS but instead it evolves as the console changes occur.

*HAVE YOU watched and listened to the two ESO Live episodes fully in my signature.
This is all explained to us there....its not my logic....please go to the source

Stop trying to place the blame for ZOS's ineptitude at the feet of Sony/Microsoft.

This is one of his blatant untruths. Sony has zero issue with text chat in mmo's for years, and honestly MS likely has no issue either since other games have it.

    No,

Now in response to that pages back I've shared that it may be best to look at the videos again as the person who left the company is not who made the decision to not include the text chat feature.

I intentionally didn't respond because that is arguing being that those comments were given prior pages of this discussion a few times over.

Goodness man it really feels like you only read the first sentence of what someone is replying to you.

Give that reply another go, make it relevant to what I responded to you with.

Its not that we aren't reading, but we are only responding to what is relevant.

    You write:
People...a few pages back have explained to you several times how that old response from zos.... you know the one you are reffering to that was made by a guy who no longer works at the company.... is now in doubt because.... you know...
The guy no longer works at the company...

Why are all these things haveing to be explained to you like 5 or 6 times?

Now in response to that pages back I've shared that it may be best to look at the videos again as the person who left the company is not who made the decision to not include the text chat feature.

I intentionally didn't respond because that is arguing being that those comments were given prior pages of this discussion a few times over.

The person who left was the one that spoke about text chat, if you want to defelect and say he didnt make the decision thats fine, as to the tone of the thread the facts still stands.

Voice chat is inefficient for communicating in this mmo, text chat will fill the gaps that voice chat cant fill, andnother console games have succesfully pulled it off and there is no reason eso cant either.

Using a quote from a guy that no longers works at the company as the basis of your arguement is weak and not needed. And once again, when zos makes an official statement regarding text chat that will be the time to offer a compromise and even then I doubt it probably wont be recieved by many.

These are all things people have been telling you since you started posting in this thread, but you convienantly ignore them or as you said you dontndeem it "relevant" . Its time that you stay on topic and if you are insistant on being against text chat, come up with some solid reasons and not the stuff that has been thrown around and debunked here several times.

Again....you ignore the tone and topic of this thread.

    Eriquito3,

you have an opinion and a perspective
I have an opinion and a perspective
Zos also has an opinion BUT they have made decisions not to provide what you are asking for

So a couple of pages back I'm saying to you and others....since you know its not coming the way you want it, what other ways would you like it?

    Again....you ignore peoples posts.... lol

That statement doesnt say if they have changed their mind or if they are going to continue down the no text chat path.... that would be obvious to most people.

    .

Respectfully...I think I've tried to explain things to all of you way more than 5 to 6 times and even are directing you all to the source.
I'm not sure why the perspective is that this is being worked on or coming to consoles...

You don't have to explain to me why you or anyone feels it should be added because I'm personally not interested and have accepted ZOS' decisions.

As a community member I am interested in helping discuss alternatives as this impacts me as well as those who do want this feature in some form.

True Final Fantasy 14 and DCUO have text chat and probably every other MMORPG that comes out will have text chat lol i still can't believe they released a MMORPG with no text chat, that's messed up. I almost quit this game because of that and the way looking for a group is.

Now here is another reason why text chat is needed. Right now voice chat is out on the NA server. It is OUT... that means no communication anywhere, I cant talk to my guild, I cant go into a city and try to trade, or form a group, ... nothing.

Text chat would be an excellent tool fall back on in these situations, but hey at least no one blaring crappy rap music right now....

God forbid the game developer give players the tools to fully utilize the voice chat system they implemented, without having to leave the game to do so.

With your logic, since the PS4 already has voice chat, they should have just launched the game with no way to communicate and left it up to the players to use the tools already available.

    Get real.

You do relive that you are saying voice should be removed from the game. Both MS and Sony have built in voice chat features. I still run into problems with some people using party chat and some using in game chat. Text chat help communicate with those you cannot reach through voice. I have a PVP guild and a PVE guild. It would be nice to be in contact with both of them. If I am in a dungeon with my PVE guild it would be nice to know when my PVP guild is starting up groups and the other way around.

I honestly cannot even begin to understand why anyone would be against this. Text communication. Being able to communication with others in more efficient ways for group, for guild, for zones. In addition to what you already have. In an MMO, there's no reason why coordinating with other players in a variety of ways is bad.

    Also.

Again....you ignore the tone and topic of this thread.

    Eriquito3,

you have an opinion and a perspective
I have an opinion and a perspective
Zos also has an opinion BUT they have made decisions not to provide what you are asking for

So a couple of pages back I'm saying to you and others....since you know its not coming the way you want it, what other ways would you like it?

    Again....you ignore peoples posts.... lol

At the very least I would hope common sense would set in, the guy who made thenstatement is now gone andnthey havent released any information about text chat since. They just said "we have nothing new about the topic at this time".

If the idea is all or nothing...the topic of discussion is over as we all learned nothing has changed from their April and June address on the subject.

Who exactly left (first and last name) that's on the ESO live April and June episodes regarding console and specifically text chat?

More proof that you dont pay attention to the posts people make here lol
No it's that I'm asking you because you're making a reference to the wrong person so I'm trying to get you to watch the shows in order to update yourself of the content and context of your request.

You're thinking of the wrong person and basing that thought off of it. The problem is, that's not the same guy

I just wish ZoS would put a ban on 'Console Text Chat' threads lol

The rate they are appearing and the general tone of some of the posts, it's more likely to just annoy them than actualy get any positive

Half the people seem to want text chat for when idle, trading etc and that could be implemented on an App and get most of what is wanted.

ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing

Again....you ignore the tone and topic of this thread.

    Eriquito3,

you have an opinion and a perspective
I have an opinion and a perspective
Zos also has an opinion BUT they have made decisions not to provide what you are asking for

So a couple of pages back I'm saying to you and others....since you know its not coming the way you want it, what other ways would you like it?

    Again....you ignore peoples posts.... lol

At the very least I would hope common sense would set in, the guy who made thenstatement is now gone andnthey havent released any information about text chat since. They just said "we have nothing new about the topic at this time".

If the idea is all or nothing...the topic of discussion is over as we all learned nothing has changed from their April and June address on the subject.

Goodness man it really feels like you only read the first sentence of what someone is replying to you.

Give that reply another go, make it relevant to what I responded to you with.

Its not that we aren't reading, but we are only responding to what is relevant.

    You write:

I don't think any rational reasoning is going to change his mind smurf.

No to text chat in the imperial city update.

The powers that be have said no.

Also if there was a glimmer of hope of this ever happening, they would at least comment on it.

I asked ESO live if we could get extra crown style compass icons for groups.

ESO live answered with a we like your idea but have no plans to do this in the near future.

So why wouldn't they at least say as much for text chat?

My idea is good but not going to happen anytime soon.

If text chat can't get at least that, I think we have to focus our energies on alternatives that may actually gain traction.
Such as customisable text bubbles or a second screen solution.

    Thanks for your time.

    I completely agree with you.
Its the better solution and because it came from a no voter, some people can't admit that it checks all the boxes. Remember that this thread is asking if we want text chat in the imperial city update, not about text chat in general.
There's even a guy in here who voted no but is pro text and has to defend each post because he actually read the poll and responded accurately.

No one here is anti text. No one. Everyone here just has a different idea about what form and when it should be implemented. I know most here are reading this post looking for some petty detail to argue with and the irony of it is devolving this discussion into petty circles only hurts a cause we all have in common.
An app with a few add on style services would be a huge hit.

Text chat could be one of the many features of such and app. Sky shards, mage books etc.

I used to read these threads and add suggestions to help guide the energy here towards an actually achievable resolution, but after watching the general trend , I have decided I do not want to enable this kind of uhm discussion to reach a generally happy player base in the form of area wide text chat.

It just occurred to me....over on the DCUO forums for years there were "Green aura for my lantern please" type threads. The official response was either "Nope, never going to happen for reasons" or a deafening silence (which obviously led to various factions in the community voicing their opinions for and against said aura).

About a year (or so) back, there was an official announcement: "Green aura incoming".

Something went from "never going to happen, no matter how much noise you make about it" to "hey, hey....look what we're putting in game".

Still, all that ZOS really needs to do (to get me to shut up) is simply come out with a simple statement, with no room for interpretation.

Something that can be pointed at, and is sitting here on the official forums....with an appropriate dev tag attached to it.

Sure, if that statement was "No. We have no plan or intention to implement any text chat more advanced than what already exists for consoles." there'd be a bit of an uproar. After which I would have no issues with ZOS locking / deleting any any threads that tried to revisit issue.

And then (as I've said before), I'll move onto to other pressing concerns...such as gamer tags and role icons in groups (yes, I *could* ask what role folk intend to play as...but for various reasons I'm not a massive mic user - hell hath no fury like a wife awoken, or a baby disturbed from slumber).

Can you repeat that? I didn't hear you.

You do realize that there are several games on console that have sucessfully integrated text chat. It's as easy as plugging in a keyboard to the USB port exactly like you do on a pc

What ignore option? You mean the one of the console? The one limited to what, 30 people? The one that could for some people be aleready full when they start playing ESO? Nah, really, an mmo needs an ingame unlimited ignore feature.

About Battlefield, you seem to not understand the difference between an mmo and a shooter, and even less the difference between "middle of action" and "standing in town". Of course comms in a shooter need to be in real time, and it's the same in dungeons, as to why I would never say to remove the voice chat, as bad as it can be, it's still very useful. This isn't a game where you have a 15 minute game, and then you start another, with all different people for another 15 min, and so on.

Money put in good communication is money well spent. It's money that will ensure longevity, it will ensure that players will stay longer, as we can all see that most, if not all, reviews about the game state the communications as a flaw. Also, the devs who are working on UI are not the same team who are working on your new content, they're different teams, just like how the graphic designs team is not the same as the combat mechanics team. And so the time spent on making text a possibility will not delay the coming of expansions, because it can be done in parallel. The money they would pay to UI devs is all going to be returned by players coming back or staying longer than they do now.

Another thing, why would I want to leave area chat? It's the only way to know what's going on outside my group. If I leave it, I don't see, and it's aleready bad that it's not covering the whole area, but it wouldn't work, waaaaay too many people who would start talking over each other, like it is aleready teh case in populated towns, but worse. With text, it's not a problem, because everything is clear, you have the name of the guy, and what he said, not a mix of 10 voices which you must then try to figure out which of the 4 names on your screen goes with which voice...

Don't you see the numbers decreasing every day? Don't you have ghost guilds since more than 50% of the players left? Well I have 4 of them, and that's because my 5th one is brand new, otherwise I'm sure they would all be like this.

Your solution for not hearing annoying people is cutting all communication outside the group... How am I supposed to think you are not trolling when you say stuff like that? I've stated it a lot of times, and I keep doing it, communication the THE most important thing in an mmo. I have no intention of cutting any communication. In fact I want more, I want to be able to see proximity chat, area wide chat, guild chat and party chat ALL AT THE SAME TIME so I can pick the discussion I'm part of or participate in 2 or 3 different conversations at the same time. Talking to group chat but knowing when people on guild prepare a raid, or if someone wants to buy something I own in a guild where I don't normally chat since it's just there to sell and buy stuff.

This is all basic, in every mmo. Some even go larger than that and have region chat, covering 3-4 areas. It has only benefits. The only Cons you can come up with are the spam and the time it takes to type, which are non-issues because when you use text, it's normally while you have time to do it. I would give everything to have quiet towns with just a list of text in the corner of my screen, which I can scroll and find only the info that interests me and skip what doesn't... Right now if someone "spams" voice chat, I hear him again and again, if it's just a line of text I end up not seeing it anymore because I don't pay attention to reapeated lines if they're not what I'm looking for. The guy reapeating in my ears though, prevents me from clearly hearing what others would say that would really interest me.

<player1> Hey, I'm looking for a DPS for vet daily
<groupplayerX(in group chat)> I'm still looking for a tank, know any?
    <player2> Selling Imperial motif 30k
<player3> Anybody wants to group? lvl 18
    <player4> Hey player1, i'm interested!
    <me(in group chat)> Hold on
    <player2> Selling Imperial motif 30k
    <player2> Selling Imperial motif 30k
<me (in guild chat1)> Any tank for vet daily?
    <player1> Sorry player4, we just filled ; ;
    <player2> Selling Imperial motif 30k
    <player4> allright np, have fun!
    <guildmemberY (in guild chat)> Sure i'll go
    <player5> Yo player3, need a tank?
    <player2> Selling Imperial motif 30k
    <me(in group chat)> Got 1, invite guildmemberY
    <groupplayerX(in group chat)> awesome!
    <player2> Selling imperial motif 30k

See here, even though player2 really wants to sell his motif, you can clearly follow all 5 converations without a fuss. It's also very easy not to pay attention to player2's message, since it repeats so much that you can easily filter it out with your eyes. Now if everyone was talking instead, this could become very messy... Also i'm sure more people would see this text than people who would hear it, since most people just turn off area voice chat the minute they log on.

    <player1> Sorry player4, we just filled ; ;

Then it seems that you've chosen the wrong platform.
Xbox does off muting of an unlimited number of people.
    If Ps4 doesn't....complain to Sony

Text chat window is on PC...it's not coming to Xbox one and PS4 based on what was shared

Perhaps other text forms of communication are up for consideration but "text chat" is already on all consoles outside of the game.

    It is what it is
