Ita not about how many bought the game. It's about how many stay. Most have already moved on, and the true MMO people that do stay, end up leaving towards endgame because of the lack of text chat. FFXIV, DCUO, Neverwinter all have people still playing years after the release. ESO is being played like a single player game, and will fade out just like one. A shame.

I wonder if there are any actual statistics to back up this claim... I imagine not. Please post them tho if you can manage to see all the way into that dark place where you pulled that statement from.

He could make up statistics like you do if that makes you feel better.

The fact of the matter is this, if zos doesnt add an effective communication tools such as text chat, it will lose people who would have otherwise stayed. This is a fact.

Since Zen has already stated no text chat, all I can say is that those few hundred ppl will be missed.

Now, a moment of silence and quiet reflection as we remember our departed brethren.

Another made up statement. Please try to stay on topic, it has been thouroughly discussed and proven that is not their stance and they actually got rid of the person who said there wouldnt be.

So stay on topic please. Constantly debunking you is getting redundant.

If it was stated that there is no new news on changing the previous statement which was no text chat, the statement of no text chat stands.

    You're grasping.

Speaking of staying on topic, this thread is about text chat in the IC patch. Not the merits of, nor the impending doom of the lack of... as stated in the OP. So I would request that you please stay on topic before this thread gets closed.

Actually, mods are closing other threads dealing with text chat and redirecting them here, so it's not only about adding text chat with the up coming IC DLC. :)

And have you guys thought about why they are using this thread as the redirect point? This is purely speculative, but perhaps that will make it all too convenient to close it after the DLC drops.

It will most definitely not be added. That is a definitive answer from Zen.

Any further discussion is an exercise in redundant futility.

However there are things you can do to help you cope with Zen's decision to change things up a bit.

Firstly, I would recommend thinking about where you fit in on a personal level using the chart below.

Also, feel free to PM me here on the forums. I'm here to help you guys. I'm here for you!

A blatant attempt to push people's buttons and start a "forum riot(lol)" and get this thread closed; don't fall for it.

Actually, I am trying to help. It appears as though most of you are still in the denial or resistance stage. Staying in that stage for an extended period of time can be a sign of mental illness.

    1) We all know ZOS has never made a definitive statement on this since the game actually went live and the complaint trickle from beta became a flood.

The last statement that was made was that there would be no text chat window as part of the UI. The last live letter reaffirmed that decision when they said that they see the requests for it and have no new news regarding a change in the previous decision. And flood? Heh... yea... that's what that annoying dripping sound in the distance must be... the raging "flood"... ;)

    2) Trying to psychoanalyze players' frustration at the lack of networking tools in the game is laughable. Let's say you buy a cell phone that's marketed as functionally identical to an iPhone but can only make cellular calls and use VOIP. You then protest to its manufacturer and join other consumers in their protests. Can your mental state be evaluated by those actions? Is it reasonable for anyone to try to perform said evaluation? No? Ok, let's ignore that post shall we?
    =)

The console product was not advertised as a replica of the PC version. In fact, it was always well known that the console version was getting the royal treatment as far as the UI was concerned. So much so that some in the PC crowd were "flooding" the forums requesting the PC version get the same UI.

I wasn't trying to evaluate anyone. I was only giving the opportunity for those willing to take a moment and self reflect upon their own place in reality. No harm intended. You may want to take a look at where you might be on that chart, it could help. And remember, I'm here for you!

    Best of luck

Maybe you could enlighten us more with your wisdom. Here in this clip you inform someone that

"the white horse is faster than the 10,000k horse even though you haven't put any points into speed" , I randomly clicked on a few other portions of this "beginers guide to elder scrolls " video (seriously at least spell your title right in your video series) , but after the comedic value wore off of your misinformation you were giving this poor guy , the voice , man the voice , just couldn't deal with it any more.

I suggest anyone that wants to hear the jewels of knowledge like "the white horses are faster than the other horses" prepare yourself for comedy hour.

Lol wow, this video gave alot of insight on this guy. A "know it all" persona but was wrong most of the time. And he brings that same junk to this thread.

like when he said, "text chat will lag the game even more thannit is" "consoles cant handle that type of codeing"

So using voice chat I just joined two new guild. One PvE and another PvP so I had to boot an inactive guild from the PC to console folks that's dead now.

Noticed the two new guilds are existing clan from Destiny and the other is a few small groups from other console games/clans. Rerolled a NB Tuesday who is now lvl 47 and ran a VR 4 to Vr11 last week all using what's in the game. No forums, no text chat, etc.

Sold some recipes and picked up 3 purple motifs and had others sent to me while I sent gear sets to others and made sets for noobs. One guy I just met offered to take me to his grind spots and so on and so forth.

Just sharing that there's different ways to play the game and text chat in all these scenarios never came up during discussion in 3 weeks which is about how long we've been arguing, debating, commenting and discussing this thread.

Don't miss out folks...ppl are working with what's there.
Also I updated my sig with a website for ppl who don't get good results using the grouping tools In-game.

    Nice.

Yeah I like to join guilds with various purposes and then switch to that guild chat when I want to PvP or dungeon dive.

No one was saying its impossible to join groups and trade, or join guilds. Nonone is saying that people arent doing the best they coukd with the options available.

WE HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT ITS NOT EFFICIENT AND SEVERLY LIMITED!!! AND THAT ADDINGNTEXT CHAT WILL MAKE ALL THOSE THINGS EASIER AND MORE EFFECTIVE!!!

I UNDERSTAND YOU. NOW UNDERSTAND ZENIMAX WHEN THEY SAY "NO".

I think some people can't understand that this post is about text chat in the imperial city update.

Zos said not anytime in the near future.

Even with the uhm five actual console guys pushing for text chat on this thread , zos still wouldn't even hint at sometime in the near future.

So as you can see, tis merely a minor quality of life issue for a niche crowd of text fetishists that has no place in the console version.

Its only a niche crowd if your wilfully ignore the vast support behind text chat...which you have done.

Lol "Hey lets ignore the majority and tell them they are actually the minority"

Thats why your comments are viewed as a joke.

Vast support? You mean the 500 votes on this convoluted poll. Admittedly scewed by people who don't even play the console version. Some of them even going so far as to admit in this very thread that they voted yes just to shut the pro text pups up. Or did you skip over those posts? Aaaaaaaaannnd even if the 500 votes were legit, which they are not, that is 500 out of millions of players. Looks like a minority to me & should to anyone with basic math skills.

I pointed out the convoluted nature of this poll a while back.

Basic logic dictates that if a change was going to affect a player base its that player base whose input is valued, PC guys are great, and no offense to you but this poll is regarding the console player experience.

    Cheers.

Most don't realize that PS4 has its own poll system. Under achievements, they grade you on how many people have gotten the same achievement. So, every dungeon in Daggerfall is a gold achievement?? Oh yea, since under. 01% has actually done it. The forums can talk all they want. This game is already dead.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

Look all you people that feel that strongly about getting text chat put back into consoles need to vote with your wallets. Only way you will get their attention is not to pay for a sub or buy anything in crown store. It may take a few months but it is the only way to force them to listen to you guys.

And this is sad, this game is fun and has some good lasting potentional, but because its so difficukt to group, people will treat it like a single player game and move on.

Bah humbug to anybody who seems to want to go down the "only x % of the actual console base pushing for this, that's a minority" route.

Yeah, it's the minority that actually felt inclined to come to the forums for various reasons. Who really knows what the silent majority think - I sure don't.

Still, at the end of the day I'm sensing that ZOS really aren't inclined to address the issue directly (and no, some vague comment from months ago doesn't cut it). Which probably means that they won't do anything.

Oh well...just as well I like single player games then...I still have to get to L50 and move onto the other faction areas, so that'll keep me interested for a while, and then it's onto something new or old.

On ps4 2% of players have completed the 5 dungeons of their starting faction.

Cant say I have ever played an mmo where almost noone plays in groups.

Even cyrodiil is down to 2 full campaigns at prime time (used to be 6) on ps4 NA. Thats a whopping 2000 people pvp'g.

But yeah grouping is great without text.

Kind of insightful but maybe your conclusion is wrong.

What if low completion numbers indicate people are taking their time with the game?

I for one played a bit of the story and then jumped into cyrodil.

There I met several large guilds and made friends.

I really don't think dungeoning would even be an issue if I wanted to do anything other than PvP.

Other people just emote around and goof off.

Hardcore guys might say hey why not power level into vet 14 and chase yellow gear?

Some people don't want to, and those people are using the crown store to buy wedding dresses and the like to do their silly emotes in.

Is it a thriving hardcore mmo?

    No probably not.

Is it a thriving community of people doing their own thing and still purchasing stuff from the crown store?
    Yup.

Here's an example, my buddy is a casual and has no idea what a good character build looks like.

He plays then buys a crown store respec or exp potion and plays a bit more. Oops made a mistake respec.

    Etc.

My hardcore buddy has a laser dot drawn on his exact character build from moment one. He might buy an exp potion but he's so hardcore and saavy he knows how to grind without really needing the help.

Sure Mr. Hardcore is a better player, no doubt. But Mr, casual is a better customer.

No, he doesn't have the story achievements, but if he keeps rerolling characters and buying frivolous pets, what does it matter?

Eventually the Mr casual crowd will level to the point of needing to group for those endgame dungeons and all the friends he made goofing off will likely be the ones emoting on some vet dungeons corpse.

No one was saying its impossible to join groups and trade, or join guilds. Nonone is saying that people arent doing the best they coukd with the options available.

Zos said not anytime in the near future.

Even with the uhm five actual console guys pushing for text chat on this thread , zos still wouldn't even hint at sometime in the near future.

    Take the hint, its free.

    This thread is officially pointless.

If that can comfort you, so be it. But if it was true, there would have been no need to say so. :)

Just think about all the floating texts requests, buffs and debuffs icons requests, there were also "nothing new to say about it in the near future" and now we know that ZOS is working on it. Feedback is never pointless, but non constructive statement like that is, in my opinion.

Please, understand that different people have different needs and likings, that doesn't mean someone is wrong to dare write down his point of view if it's not the same as yours...

Lol, you must think you re in a text chat is good discussion.

The title of the thread is 'should text chat be included in the imperial city'

    Zos said no.

So this thread is OFFICIALLY pointless.

As in the answer is no, move on.

We could start a new thread about the merits of text chat.

That thread would be less pointless.

And none of that was pertinent to the conversation.

Lets keep the focus on how badly this game needs text chat, because its just a matter of time before "Mr. Casual" and "Mr. Hardcore" move on from this game due to the lack of effective communication.

ESO is not millions of players deep on console. Also the official forums are not the only place lack of text chat is being discussed.

As of the middle of june, sales had reportedly topped 800,000 on PS4 and 600,000 on xBox One. So, you've got me there. They may not have topped 2 mil yet. I imagine they are significantly close if they haven't.

Not exactly because companies don't release the digital sales numbers. Those figures are likely from hard copy sales.

The actual figure is likely much higher.

Without text chat this game is just Skyrim: The Ugly & Boring Edition.
    Not even a basic MMO.

Back to playing other games, will probably check again in a few weeks...

I would like to mention to those who keep saying that console = microphone that in 25 years of console gaming (got my Nintendo at the age of 6) I've spent more time using text chat than voice chat. But you guys will just put on the blindfold because since there have been thousands of FPS games (which I find extremely boring) and sports games on console, they never knew about text chatting.

Text chat will always have an edge in a mmorpg, simply because of the size of the world. In a FPS game, you will play for about half an hour with random people, then you will get into another game, with more random people, which doesn't matter because in the end, except maybe for Battlefield, there isn't much cooperation needed, and if there is, it's always going to be in the middle of action. There is no city with 150 people standing in it, trying to sell to each other, build groups, make friends, do general chatting while taking a break. There is also no real guild importance, since the goal of the game is kill more guys than the other team, and not respect mechanics in complicated boss fights.

In a mmorpg, at least for players who want to tackle hard content (known as raids here), the guild has a lot of importance. Staying in touch with your guild is important.

The current system has good points. In the middle of the action, voice chat is always better to make quick corrections. But while you are in town, the current cacophony makes it unbearable, which make some people leave the voice chat completely, which itself causes other problems, because since they left voice chat, they won't hear when you try to talk to them.

At least with text, you make sure people hear (or rather see) what you say.

Currently, if you want to take a break of your headset to rest your ears, you miss all the important info. With text, you can go take a coffee, go to the bathroom, go outside for a smoke, then you come back and read everything that's been said while you were gone, now that is neat.

I'm done with solo content, and by done, I mean 1000+ quests completed and tamriel hero achievement. All that remains is group content, and when my friends get on, I want to make sure that I know it so I can build a group and go spam dungeons, because that's the fun part of a mmo, what's fun about solo stuff that I faceroll holdin L2 and spamming square?..

At this point, I log on, do my crafting dailies, and then .... I go PvP while waiting on my friends to log on so we can do dungeons. Did I mention I didn't like PvP? Well I do now, but I do it because it's the only content that I can do solo that still rewards something to work for. That or emptying houses and resetting to farm motifs... Very entertaining... But then, when I PvP, if I get a group, I won't see it when my friends log on, because I'll be in group chat, and then I might miss my window of opportunity to get a tank, because 1 of my tank friends logged on, said something in guild chat, no one replied, and he left.

Another of my friends, I won't see him ever in guild chat, because the sound quality of the in game voice chat is so poor that he keeps cutting off. But on PSN party though, we hear him very clearly. But again, if you're in PSN party, you will most likely miss everything hapening in the ingame chat.

ZoS must have understood the importance of guilds on PC, but then forgot when time came to make the console version. The guild chat is made so that you can communicate with all your guild, wherever they are, but on console, going to your guild chat means talking to 5% of your guild, sometimes less than that.

You guys keep saying that we're a minority saying we want text and that people ingame all think otherwise, think again. I've seen alot more people ingame agreeing that text chat should be implemented than otherwise, and that is only coming from those who are using the voice chat, which is far from being everyone.

How useful is it to have an area voice chat if more than 50% of the player base leave area chat as soon as they log on?

ZoS needs to come to their senses soon enough, because the amount of players in the game is decreasing by the day, and I know for a fact that many of them do so because there is no text chat.
