ESO is starting to turn more into work and less like a game

What MMO when you try to compete at the top of the highest tier of content isnt like a job? it takes hours a day and you have to do many things in those hours that you wouldnt put on the top of your todo list if you had the choice.

so many people want this type of effort put in to have the top gear, to be honest the VR16 gear is EASY to get, it just takes time (10x the time of the vr15 to be exact). They could keep the main materials the same as before, and add something actually hard to get into the materials for making the VR16 version and make it hard to get (to the point most players cant get without buying the item), thats a real achievement and as much as I prefer this type of challenge, i'd hate to see the outcry over it if they went this path

I really don't think it'll take the "workers" very long at all to get the best VR16 gear. So IMO the only people who'll be hurt are those who are newer/don't play nearly as much/have a different attitude toward playing.

Disabling the grass may improve performance.

I play a game for fun. Once a game becomes more work than a real job, I stop playing it. I would rather go get a second real job and make real money to spend on doing something more fun than playing a game that makes me work too much.

Far too many characters to list any more.

And just think of it ... at some time after a few more of these cycles they will remove vet ranks in a way that will either invalidate everything or be an even bigger grind.

Progression in ESO has been in limbo for quite some time. There is no clear direction to it so there is not much reason to even consider it at this point. Playing for character or gear progression is irrelevant for the foreseeable future.

Everyone plays the game for fun. For many people fun involves character and gear progression, especially in this kind of game. I find having clear goals to work towards quite fun. Those goals shouldn't be overly tedious and repetitive, of course, but they should exists. The problem is that this game doesn't have any clear goals. It only has tedious grinds for somewhat fuzzy reasons and shifting goal posts.

I was having quite bit of fun working towards getting some sets for a build I wanted to try out up until recently. After a few announcements form ZOS working toward that goal seems quite pointless until 2.1 and even then there is not much reason to try that thing anymore.

Or maybe you don't think of it as a grind and think of it as oh I don't know maybe as new content ? Just saying stuff tends to come to those who just play instead of grinding.

Excessive grinds are an easy out for keeping players online. It's a lot cheaper and easier than to actually produce new content.

Ok, but what happens when you complete the new content? You have to do it over and over again to progress your character, and that's when it becomes a grind

Agreed. For me, it is not fun to log in to several characters to do the dailies and not get a reward. It seems that the RNG is screwy at best. I have done multiple writs daily since the psijic release and only have 2 fragments. I quit even trying to run the dwemer dungeons a while ago because it was so random and not fun.

I play the game to have fun and I do not find these kinds of random grinds entertaining. Please adjust them. How about if you do a writ 5 days in a row you are rewarded with a higher chance to get the fragment, something better than what they have.

Yeah, this'll be a 12 month thing for me.
I will get my VR15 gear and be done with it. Honestly VR16 is too much work for a casual like myself.

Glass motif I'll (very slowly) accumulate.

All my excitement about this DLC is gone. I really don't care about it anymore. As far as I'm concerned it's just 2 new dungeons and a bunch of nerfs.

    Whatever.

I haven't played in over 2 months, but i have been following the forums to keep up to speed with ZOS's developments. all of my friends stopped playing this game because of the VR System and the Gear treadmill that follows it. we all quit WoW back in the day for the same reason and since have stayed clear of games that believe in this as content.

when ZOS brought in the Campion system i was excited, but that did not last once it was clear it was based of a percentile vertical progression. still, i think the Champion system could be altered to actually work. however what upsets me the most, is the fact that they have gone back on their word for removing Vet Levels. To add insult to injury, not only are they bringing the gear/grind treadmill back (which to me was the whole point in removing VR levels and replacing it with the champion system!), they are making it TEN TIMES harder to accomplish. now, if that is not a slap in the face, i don't know what is. they can claim all they want that VR levels are going away, but the Gear treadmill is certainly here to stay.

its sad really, that a company has to use old MMO tricks on their customer base. so many great ideas have been shared on this forum for ways to improve current systems. they should be thinking of activities and systems that engage players to work with or against one another (hello Ark Age before it went PTW!?!?!). this was the company's chance to be innovative and original, but they have decided to play it safe and the game (and it's community) has suffered for it.

I wont be buying into their schemes personally, ill keep an eye on how things progress. as it stands, they have made mistake over mistake over mistake and it doesn't look like they are learning from them anytime soon.

honestly i cant imagine how that imperial city gearing will work for me. i will be fresh vr14 at his release but i cant imagine how i survive there to get solid number of tv stones. Even if accompany by guildies, i will be easy target to get down and my tv stones will be directly transfered to killer. he even dont need to pick up them. so is it even worth of trying grind imp city gear? dont know

The grind in ESO is nothing compared to that of many MMOs, especially Asian ones.

In most MMOs it takes endless grinding of mats and gold just to level up your crafting skills, in ESO this is so much better.

Grinding for the sake of grinding is simply poor design, not to mention, judging by this update we can guess future content will expand the grinds even more so that ESO will soon become grind-centric like the MMOs you mention. This is worth discussing because it goes against what ZOS said they would do with the B2P switch, and deadens the otherwise great game they've created.

To me it is simply a matter of time management. Between work, family, friends, sleep, entertainment, etc. Right now ESO is my main form of entertainment and so I allocate some free time to it. When things are introduced into the game I am willing to spend some time to work towards them, ie grind. But when you have done a grind on two or more characters since the release of some new content and have only gotten 2 fragments (psijic) it is annoying and not fun. Then they release more new content that requires even more grind time. Hrmm. Now I can grind the old ones and add the new ones in, cutting into my dungeon or pvp time or more than likely I will stop doing some of the old grind (like the dwemer recipes I stopped doing).

After this happens a couple of times, when the new grind comes out people will just not even bother. Why spend all that time on it only to fall short? In my opinion there should be more than just a chance for the reward. As an example, if you do the writs for 7 days straight you are guaranteed a fragment. Or the odds increase with each attempt.

In the end I think that what most people are saying here is that grinding for the sake of grinding is not fun. And if that is how they want to entice their customers to come back they will soon find some of those customers taking their entertainment time and money and going somewhere else.

I'm concerned that ZOS is attempting to deliberately limit the appeal of the game to hardcore players with nothing to do with their time other than play, which is not something I support. I play the game a fair bit (I got it 4 months ago and have a literal month of playtime at least, in hours), but I can handle it as it has been because it's kept me entertained and engaged, there's nothing entertaining or engaging about grinding for DAYS, which is what it would take to get even one of the IC things accrued. I don't want to waste all my time running around in circles for a tragically low payout, even Nirncrux pushes the limits of how much time I'm willing to spend walking around in circles, and let's not even get started on Perfect Roe and Psijic Ambrosia fragments. How about keeping the game accessible to your player-base instead of narrowing it into a niche? I love Elder Scrolls but I don't know how patient I can be with this magnitude of time wasting, which is what I have to call it because there's no clever way to avoid it, because of how much is left to chance. If you include a way for people to be challenged more for a greater payout I'll be fine with all this ridiculous masochism, but as things stand there's not going to be room for success unless you're rich or grind all the time.

It is a mistake to put basic crafting materials behind a big grind. That unnecessarily limits crafted gear choices. When at vr16 having epic vr16 gear should be the norm. There is already limited supply of golden impovements (well not for wax currently, oink). ZOS, let people craft new sets, test and try. Making them golden and kuta glyphed is already limited with hireling changes.

Putting 150 mats to vr16 is a cheap trick. ZoS developed nothing new to crafting, just extended current system tables. Instead of improving top level crafting they squeeze it at the bottom when making white vr16 gear. There is nothing new to achieve for top crafters for better gear. This is just dumbing down crafting.

My suggestion is to rename Colossus Ingots to Just Another Brick in the Wall, Daedric Skin to Masochist's Skin and Harvestor Silk to Torn Hair of the Grinder.

Not only putting 150mats to VR16 but also rigging VR15/VR16 materials to give NOT MORE than one single piece of crafting material upon deconstructing.
And in addition to that LIMITING VR15/VR16 gear drops practically only to the DLC. Because ZOS decided that every other player is not worthy of obtaining VR15/VR16 gear outside of IC, so they decided that even if old dungeons will scale up to VR16, the monsters inside wont drop VR16 gear (only bosses and minibosses will have a chance to drop deconstruction gear, in this case we are looking at top 6 pieces of gear to be obtained after single run of old dungeon).

Fighting Bosses and new content is fun. Crafting my 100th Piece of Hunding's is a chore. Running a perfect Map of Sniper Elite 3 is fun. Picking 200 voidblooms is work. Blowing someones Cobra apart in Elite Dangerous is fun. The Horse simulator is not fun.IC is going to be fun Crafting is not going to be my thing anymore. to grindy. If I want grindage I can get a Korean MMO

When he game began the grinds were fairly reasonable with the exception of the vr system.

The steady increase in grindy pointless content has been steadily ruining the game.

When i think of Elderscrolls i get the feeling of a big wonderful and dangerous world full of big Adventures little stories and quests spread over the lands, ultimate decisions, GOOD AND BAD, funny little moments upto huge epic battles....

But what should we do to stay strong and can play competitive in PVE and PVP?
We are forced to do this!

There is so much potential, so many things in the game are very good, but this systems turning the game into an grindfest makes me sad.

Farming should be part of an MMO but not the Maincontent.

First we have to farm for Championspoints, now we will have to farm TV-Stones and Championspoints, the Helmsets again at V16 and unrelistic amounts of materials for crafting gear...

In what aspect of the game we are supposed to PLAY the game instead of grinding any points like farmers harvesting corn?

What will i do when i have the gear from IC? farm more? yes more CS-points to stay competitive....

    Farmarama here we come...

ESO is starting to turn more into work and less like a game

Hate to say it,but yeah this sums up my feels as well.

Yeah some of this seems like a horrible long grind for a pvp zone. I haven't even finished nirnhoned and would like to work on a different class for awhile. Most time is spent farming for tempers and to keep up with writs. Oh and sorting the unstackable guild bank. I farmed for all my motifs on all three crafters that needed them. This time I may just fork over the cash and be done with it.

I do not enjoy grinding either ... but well... there are so many buts.

What is end game content to you? What would replace the 'grind'? Personally, I would like some pvp Arenas and maybe a pve solo arena, but meh that opens a whole other can of worms.
