I was looking at the trophy stats for ESO on my ps4 and it says only 13.1% of players have earned the rank of Recruit in the Alliance War. Is it that hard to reach that rank, or are the vast majority just not that into PvP?
Anyway I thought the stat to be telling about player preferences, at least on one platform.
It's really telling about the appeal of PvP. Not that many people do it.
The biggest problem is that there is no real rank matching, it's everyone in the same pot regardless of skill \ ability. That's great for the no-lifers who have all day to become 'the high end player,' but that leaves the majority of players without competitive matchups. As such, they simply get discouraged from playing. I'm sure someone will quote this with their personal anecdote to the contrary, but the plural of anecdote is not data. With data showing that only 13% of players have bothered with PvP in any significance, the focus should be how to attract more people to PvP, not to create more content just to have longer grinds.
I disagree with the OP, there's no need for more solo content.
On the PvE side, they need more content with dynamically increasing difficulty. Right now content is designed for solo, 4 player or 12 player groups. Why can't we have content that scales to groups of 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 or any other fairly reasonable number. This would be something closer to the 'Skyrim with Friends' experience many players want from an Elder Scrolls game.
On the PvP side they really need different styles of PvP content, not more Cyrodiil AvA in tighter quarters. They need rank matched content, like dueling, so people can PvP with someone about the same skill level. It would be nice if they could create skirmish style PvP, something people can get into and leave fairly quickly. I've read some comments that offering more PvP would split the PvP community,' but at 13% of the player population you should be more concerned about increasing overall player participation. It's going to be bad enough come November, there's a bunch of really good games coming out that will hit this player community hard. One would think some foresight would be put into having more inclusionary content, as opposed to expanding more elitist dominated content.
From reading this, I've come up with a question that has always confused me:
Why are people equating MMO with PvP?
I thought MMO was playing in groups to successfully complete goals while PvP was just arbitrarily slaughtering other players for no other reason than you get a kick out of humiliating and destroying other players and stealing their stuff.
I know I'm probably wrong, but, at this point, that's my experience with PvP. I'm staying well away from it until I "Git Gud" and that's going to take a while.
I play mostly solo PVE - I come from a TES background, and this is my first MMO. I'd love to see more solo PVE content.
Having said that, I can't disagree with ZOS adding new group content (Craglorn, vet dungeons, pledges) and PVP content (Imperial City) before adding new solo PVE content, just because so much of the game is solo-friendly. I'd like to see some actual challenging end-game solo content, but I don't think it's needed as much as the other categories. Actually, one thing I'd love to see is a couple of dungeons where you can select if you want it to be regular or vet, and you can select if you want it to be scaled for solo, a group of 4, a group of 8, or a group of 12. The regular versions would all share the same story and bosses regardless of how many people you scaled it to, and the same would go for the vet versions. The differences between the scaling by number of players would be in the number of mobs present, the health of bosses, and the mechanics of the boss fights (when scaled to solo play the fight wouldn't have a mechanic that required one player to rescue another, for example, but when scaled to a group it might). Probably have slightly different loot drop for the different versions too.I've been running around Craglorn with my VR10 for a little while grabbing surveys and harvesting, and in that time I've had a bunch of practice soloing groups of Craglorn mobs - including some of the ones with a named mini boss amongst them. The other day I decided to try to solo one of the Craglorn delves. It was a cake walk until I hit the delve boss... Not sure I can solo Craglorn delve bosses yet! Maybe I'll try on my VR14...Heh, I snuck through all the Craglorn delves alone to grab those skyshards. It was fun and exciting.
You do know the next dlc is PvE content right? And the one after that and the one after that, right?

Lots of players like both the PVE and PVP parts of the game. Many dislike the PVE (like you do, I guess) and many dislike the PVP. There is not One Correct Way to play ESO. There are as many correct ways to play ESO as there are players.
Most of the problem for consoles is that it is difficult to even form a small group for stuff. Lack of text chat being a huge impediment and lack of a full in game messaging system. Group finder is apparently broken too. Until those issues are addressed, I don't think any new PvP content is going to help. Without effective communications in place, this will mostly remain a single player experience.

Really..yes its classified as a mmo, but the entire game ( start from end) you know when you create a character to beating the bad guy ( THE GAME ) is all solo. After that you can do silver and gold. again nothing that needs another player so all solo. only what is considered "endgame" is mmo style group play. ive watched enough videos and streams to know all that stuff is lack luster to the great solo play ive had so far. only v6 and about to be done with gold already. Just because a game is put into the genre of MMO does not mean you shouldnt be able to play solo.
And this misconception that pvp is endgame. just no. it takes absolutely no skill at all. just learn the controls. use a BIS skill set/build and gank gank gank. its horrible content and takes no skill. how anyone enjoys that i will never know
@DaveMoeDee
Hey man from level 15 and up you get dual spec, meaning 2 weapons and two lines of abilities, your question is self explanatory. Use one for one thing ( healer / tank / dps ) in pve dungeons and another will be your more comfortable approach like one for levelling and pvp, it's not impossible to squeeze every single use out of your character for all your needs, me myself I can heal like a god using just two skills along with restoration staff heavy attack for magika regen, that's one role completely sorted and only two places taken up as I use breath of life and the cleansing thing I forget the name. Then the rest are pvp/levelling spots for me which provide abit of everything with the right passives booting the whole setup, with the right gear and right enchantments.

And just when you think it's over after the main quest, it lets you visit other alliances to partake in those quests. Even IC will be half and half - which I like the sound of. I'm pretty certain there will be much more PvE DLC in the future to come also, so there is absolutely no need for worry about lack of content for us.
